  • I wish I could write Ray and tell him what my niece once told me. We were watching Clash of the Titans and she saw Pegasus and said, “There are no flying horses in the Philippines, but there are in America.” Compliment from a child.

  • This is probably the best thing I've ever seen! lmao!

  • haha. I remember seeing this as a kid. :-) Cowboys vs dinosaurs. Clever hook.

  • A classic monster movie- it was Willis O'Brien who first had the idea of cowboys and dinosaurs but he never get to do it. Ray did this out of respect for his mentor. The effects still look great, some of the finest stopmotion committed to celluoid. And he's still around!!

  • the villain here is...

    homo sapiens...

  • Cowboys and dinosaurs so much better than aliens and cowboys.

  • I got to see this movie one day it look's a little like Jurassic Park.

  • Red dead redemption: dinosaur nightmare

  • LMAO! Shooosh shooosh T-Rex XD! 1:08

  • Dinosaurs AND Cowboys!?

The only way this could be more awesome if it had Ninjas and Werewolves. ;3

  • Red dead redemption: gwanji's revenge

    Next dlc of the year?

  • Cowboys AND Dinosaurs? Yes please

  • Somebody needs to bring back Harryhausen's dynomation. It's so much more satisfying than CGI.

How the hell they made Gwangi in 1968 is beyond me

  • I think this begs for a remake! XD

  • One of my favorite films as a child and i thought they should surely remake this, then i though CGI! So please do not remake it! I'll just watch the good old original again.

  • I made my self a promise a long time ago that i would remake this film.

All this doesn't deserve a remake in the clash of the titans sense, but only to turn what seem to be a sometimes laughable picture with some down earth sentiments, into a really good picture with the same sense of 1969 action; the Church scene, the dialogues between Francis and TJ, Carlos' spearing of the Styracosaurus are all symbolic of man's ever lasting conflict with their own greed and enough to motivate a humble I do.

  • @sqccccccccc I think you're over-thinking a movie about cowboys fighting dinosaurs.

  • I'd suggest remaking this, but considering the crap job they did with Clash of the Titans, just leave it alone.

  • @cerebulon Don't forget that Peter Jackson managed to make King Kong a great remake and facinate viewers, but I see your point.

  • If they casted Clint Eastwood and threw in a couple zombies, this would be THE greatest use of celluloid in the history of cinema.

  • 2:04 it's awfully stupid of them to be spearing the one creature that's keeping the Rex at bay...

  • The old days' stop motion pretty much owns a lot of the todays' CGI when it comes to B movies.

    Thumbs up for Gwangi!

  • Gwangi kicks ass! But he must be a Protestant, because he tried to destroy that beautiful Catholic church. (Heretic dinosaurs?)

  • Gwangi kicks ass!

  • This is the worst movie trailer I've seen. It gives away so many plot points of a great movie.

  • Like with anything, there's good and bad CGI. Just like there's good and bad stop motion. Yes, I know it has its place in history, but I do think that CGI can create more realistic movement than stop motion. However, there are times when CGI is overused. I myself am a fan of using optical and digital effects blended together seamlessly, like Jurassic Park.

  • @FlippytheMasterofPie One word and hope I don't sound like a fanboy: Avatar. Good CGI that has realistic movement and realistic everything. Okay I'll now shut up.

  • @Pixelrelated Oh, don't get me wrong, I think that Avatar was amazing. It's just not every movie has an Avatar budget and try to use CGI in unconvincing ways.

  • @FlippytheMasterofPie Yeah I know what you mean. I wish there was a movie that had traditional hand drawn animation, stop motion animation, CGI, and possibly clay animation. That would be beast.

  • 0:35 and 0:55 = inspirations for Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park 3

  • Suitmation and Stop motion are the ONLY way to have giant monsters on screen.

  • love this stuff, the monsters just look so much more lifelike than the junk that is computer made.

I guess this film was a bomb at the box office but I loved it.

  • I think stop motion could look fantastic TODAY if we put some time/money into it... most CGI looks like crap.

  • I proved that very point that stop-motion can look great in this day and age. Have a look at my Gwangi with motion blur. I've used the footage from 1969. If you like stop-motion you'll love this vid. There is also some Sinbad stuff.

  • Stop mostion > CGI

  • CGI is stop motion. The difference is the ammount of love and dedication put in to the profession. That's why sometimes you have the beauty of the first Jurassic Park, and others you have eye hurting sores on the screen, like with GI Joe.

  • @Teraconseliad

Not any more. If you look at avatar or rango they have super good CGI effects.

  • @Teraconseliad Check out Coraline!

  • @Teraconseliad It depends on what CGI effects you're referring to. But for your own sake I hope you're not talking about Jurassic Park or Peter Jackson's King Kong. Because then you must be high on drugs, because the effects in those movies look astounding. It's what motivate people to take up CGI art. If OTOH you have the budget of claymation, then yes, your CGI is going to look like a pile of dinosaur dump.

  • @HuATTK It's called stop-motion not claymation. Nothing to do with claymation what so ever.

  • @HuATTK Not to mention a stop-motion animator on a movie for the cinema can expect to earn $100,000 or more a year.

  • Great Stop-Motion by the master !

  • @jones13013 You are correct ... Allosaurus!

  • Looks like an Allosaurus, not a Tyrannosaurus

  • Gwangi vs. Ymir...monsters who bully circus elephants for no friggin reason...LMAO

  • The Valley of GWANGI

  • I think its safe to say that this HAS to be remade! Only by someone cool though like QT!!!

  • yep.. my favorite as a kid, my favorite as an adult...harryhausen's best!

  • Gwangi is an Allisaurus

  • comprends pas

  • Ray harryhausen: A Legend.

  • Keep your CGI Hollywood - this is more believable! ;)

  • amen bro, real stop animation the old school way

  • trex vs. elephant, EPIC

  • True, :D

If you really think about it there's not an animal on earth that could defend itself from a Trex anymore.

  • Actually its an Allosaurus lol.

  • Still, lol and btw we'd be the only "animals" that can defend ourselves.

  • True that lol

  • i think nobody will never know how a real dino looked like

  • Me too!

Mythical movie of my childhood in the eighties!

    5 stars *****

    =)

  • this is amazing, i thought i'd dreamt this movie as a kid, I remember it had a tiny protohorse in it

  • My younger brother was obsessed with this film as a child. He kept raving about cowboys fighting dinasaurs.Movie gold.

  • Old memories when i was a kid this movie is awsome.

  • Hmm , a pteranodon with batwings?

  • This film was released 13 years, 10 days before I was born. I've never seen it but have wanted to for a long time now. I'm into all those stop-motion films like King Kong and Jason and the Argonauts.

  • One of if not the greatest monster movie ending since King Kong 33'. The burning church scene is powerful.

  • Wow this is gold!!

  • I just read that paleontologists had found evidence that T-Rex had three fingers as well, meaning that all the Natural History Museums out there will have to fix their skeletons!

Reminds me of when they had to change skulls on all the Brontosaurs and changed the name to Apatasaurus.

BTW, it's a great movie. I think I have it on VHS.

  • T. Rex's third so-called "finger" was vestigial; a tiny, atrophied thing that would likely have been hidden in the meat of its hand anyway.

  • I did not know that. The article never mentioned it. Perhaps it was visible as sort of a dew claw? I would say that if a Natural History Museum wished to be accurate with their skeletons they would still have to add the vestigial finger. Their "fleshed" out models/sculptures could still accurate enough.

SHAMELESS PLUG: Click on my name to check out my channel with it's own dinosaur video!

  • 0:18 Lol

  • ricks = rocks

  • omfg !! :-D

this freakin ricks , better than caprona !!!

    gwanshi gwanshi gwanshiiiii !!!!

  • Oh! The POOR Elephant! The Poor Tuskaderm!!! He gets eats by The Terrible Lizzard!!!!

  • This film was astonishing well made in its time. I watched this over and over again as a child. And still enjoy it sometimes these days. Realy great movie!

  • Elephant owned

  • remember this on tv twenty years ago - nostalgia !! cool allosaurus

  • yup, is an Allosaurs, just look his hand

  • Has The Valley Of Gwangi been referenced in Jurassic Park?

The Valley Of Gwangi is a cool movie

Gwangi is really an Allosaurus but the audience got his species confused with Tyrannosaurus

  • This film "Valley of the Gwangi" is generally accepted within the paleontological community as a near perfect re-enactment of an actual event that was erased from "history" books by the Nazis when they burned the library of Alexandria. If we are not forever vigilant, it WILL happen again.

  • Probably the ultimate movie for little boys. Dinosaurs + cowboys. Can't miss.

  • great stop motion this harryhausen does... haven't seen the movie yet but it looks entertaining

  • my father took me to see this as a small boy. The only bit I remember is the cowboy being eaten by the dinosaur.

  • remember this from when i was a wee boy, dinosours and cowboys, all this movie needed was JOSIE WALES for to be the best cowboy film ever

  • Gwangi was an Allosaurus wasn't he?

  • No one is really sure. He has been called both an allosaurus and a t. rex. Harryhausen didn't understand the difference between the two.

  • Yes, it is generally accepted within the paleontological community that Gwangi is an Allosaurus, because of the three fingers on each of his forearms (as opposed to two, like in Tyrannosaurus, one of the only other 'carnosaurs' common in popular culture).

  • love this movie as well. The Rex looked awesome.

Harryhausen and O'Brien really loved their dinosaurs. ^^

  • I loved this movie as a kid. I felt sorry for the elephant but I loved Gwangi! I cried at the end for the poor thing...lol.

  • I've got an interesting explaination for this film :

Think King Kong as a Therapod Dinosaur.

  • This flipped me out when I was a kid. You always rooted for the elephant, but you knew better...lol.

  • Cowboys+Dinosaurs=insta-win!

  • hell yeah! I need to see this

  • I AM GWANGI....

  • I love that movie.

  • I love this movie. I remember seeing it several times on cable tv when I was a kid in the 1980's.

  • So cool. I saw this at the drive-in when the movie first came out!

  • love it. I feel like a seven year old again.
