Having lived in Europe near the Swiss border for a few yrs., I think I can speak a little on this subject. The reason it is mandatory for Swiss citizens to maintain arms in their homes is because Switzerland is a Pacifist Country with NO STANDING MILITARY FORCE, so everyone must be prepared to defend the country if and when necessary and NOT for the reasons being expressed here by the others with an agenda. Know the facts! Also they have a defense treaty with Germany.

I personally think gun control is a positive step, but do not believe in a ban. Gun control as in most countries does not consist of a ban. Individual firearms are prohibited (full auto, and etc.), but handling and storage laws are stricter. This is what I believe gun control should be. Just as the phrase says. Gun "CONTROL"

What all of you fail to acknowledge is that there is another layer to gun ownership, to defend against a tyrannical government, the UK lost that ability. The US was born from gun ownership.

It is common knowledge that Japan did not have the resources or desire to invade mainland US, as their goal was in the pacific. They attacked PH to prevent the US fleet from. So the reason they did not invade US is simply because it was not in their agenda. Japanese soldiers were extremely brave, so US having guns would not bother them at all. One word kamikaze.

Neither country had any interest in invading each other. It was basically a nuclear build up. No invading there. Now US and Russia have no hostilities between each other.

@paul4073 I don't know about the Brady Camp. That is an American thing. I do know that Gun control is a multi layered system. Swiss have much stronger gun control than the US, and much less poor than the US. To compare the Swiss to the US citizens is not at all feasible. Swiss lack the gun culture and attitude towards guns that the US has. Swiss lack the poor. Swiss have the social programs to allow for less need. They have mandatory military training, which I am sure would not work in the US.

This video does not answer the question asked in the title. It only explains vaguely how the mandatory military training and subsequent distribution of firearms works. The true reason they have a low (not the lowest) crime rate is simply because they have effective social programs in place. The military weapons are not in every house as is implied. Also they must be locked up separate from the ammo. Which is typical in countries with gun control.

I love seeing this. i just turned 18 and im working to purchase my second shotgun. I hope people start to see guns as "tools" not as things that cause crime. Plus it does not help that the media seems to love reporting information that gives guns a bad name.

Judging by the title of this video and its contents, what you're implying is wrong. Countries that have a high crime rate tend to have 2 things in common: 1. they have a huge gap in the distribution of wealth between rich and poor, and 2. most of the rich have acquired their wealth through dishonest/unfair means. Fortunately for Switzerland, it doesn't have these traits, hence its low crime rate! BTW, very few Swiss homes have a gunand I should know I live there!
