@xIDecapitatorIx I really don't know how to explain it so much - but for me, Ubuntu runs better on my Beagleboard xM (1.0 GHz + 1 GB of DDR2 RAM) than on my Core2 Duo laptop w/ 2 GB ram. Even though video decoding is faster on the Core2 Duo, the beagle board consumes 1W running decoding 1080p MP4 @ 30 fps and the Core2 Duo is consuming like 56W.
The funny thing about this is, that a Windows 95 PC has a faster Processer than a PSP but the PSP's graphics card must be like 100's of times better than a Windows 95 PC
@BrandonCrazyTV most windows 95 pc's usually only use a pentium which maxed out at 233mhz with the mmx. if you use the recovery menu in your cfw you can set your psp to 333. but you are totally right about the gpu back then 4mb of vram was crazy and gpu clocks of around 66mhz were pretty high end too!
@BrandonCrazyTV jsesTM is right, The PSP processor is about 50-100x faster. The clock speed is about 50-100% more and clock speed doesn't translate directly to performance. You have certain amounts of clocks per instruction and the PSP CPU can execute two instructions or more per clock cycle (666 MIPS) and it took anywhere between 25 - 50 clocks for a Pentium or Pentium MMX to execute just one. So even at the same clock the PSP is faster.
@cptultor You are definately right. The PSP's processor is not x86, so no Microsoft stuff native. It uses ARM architecture, which is RISC, so it is faster anyway. A 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex A9 cpu(single core version) has the amount of power as a 2.4 GHz Core2 Duo + 512 MB to 1 GB of RAM right on the chip, and the chip is about a square inch.
Hey. Kannst du da mal Everest drauf laufen lassen und dann einen Bericht machen lassen und den dann hochladen? Mich würde mal interessieren wie Windows 95 die PSP abscannt, wieviel Mhz sie hat usw xD
Everyone, this is completely possible, the psp processor normally runs at 333 mhz, and it has 64 mb of ram (32 mb for older versions). I'm guessing that this guy probably somehow overclocked the psp processor, making it run at like 500 mhz. So yes, this is possible, but very hard and very slow.
i did this before :-) the sad fact was that it was more of a novelty than a practicality. I could say "ive got windows on my psp!!" but I couldn't do anything useful with it...
hey, it's funny cause i downloaded that (DSL) a day before i wrote this reply. i have the iso, but how do you convert it to an .img ?? i have the trial for Ultraiso and i use it to install old games onto windows98 for psp.
yea... ive seen UMPCs go faster using vista/xp... no offence this is amazing but to get decent speed ud have to modify the entire hardware structure. this is, however, a very cool idea
because the processor of the psp is MIPS and Pentium II use 80686 (With MMX instruction etc..) and the emu translate ALL code compatible with pentium in MIPS instruction! For example the PS2 have a 300mhz processor, but a pc with 2ghz can't emulate the ps2 in full speed! If you want run a windows os on psp, select Win 3.11 (check my video).
yes, the PSP emulates a PC, via DOSBox! It will only run windows 1.x, 2.x, 3.x, 95, 98, and Me - NT 3.x/4.x, 2k, XP, Vista and 7 won't work as they are NT-based systems, but what's the point anyway :-)
No you cant, but theres a program to controll your pc with your psp meaning if you have a good enough conncection and a fast psp you can basicly play runescape. Lookup PSPVNC
when using psp vnc and creating a connection to your pc use the WINDOWS icon or else it wouldn't work ;) . And you would also have to install Tight VNC on your pc. When that's installed, just highlight the icon in your tray bar and you'll see your IP. Put that on your psp while making the connection and add port 5900 behind it. Example: 192.198.1.1:5900 Name it and click on windows icon. And you're done ^^
Yeah it runs but very slow and once i open some apps its pretty brutal the sad thing is that my system has way more power than that psp and still runs that operation system just about as horrible... The problem is I am actually trying to run it so I can do old Dos/Win16 programs now DOS I can emulate with DosBox good enough but the Win16 stuff got a game called BurnCycle to run slowly any other program/game/app of any sort not built into windows not really happening.
I am really waiting for more 64 bit optimized Virtualization Software ... Hoping Parallels Workstation for Windows will do the trick when its finally written for my computer
Ah. I'm debating if I should stick with 32bit or 64 bit. I heard from some sources that windows xp can use only 3gb or ram, while my computer supports up to 4gb, and I am not going to switch to vista as my primary OS. I'm also hearing that Win XP 32bit supports up to 4gb, and the 64bit versions support alot more. I guess I will just have to see for myself. I just don't like the sound of 64bit because of incompatibility issues, and because 32bit and 64bit depend on your processor's architecture.
Yeah my OS is VISTA 64 HOME premium and it supports up to 16 gb ram but my comp stops at 4gb
and that is what it has but with vista it is almost needed to have at least 2
and yeah you got no 16 bit compatibility with this os maybe microsoft could make a legacy gamer shell that runs the binary for the older games and than have it collapse once the program is closed like they use to do with dos
Ima install vista on a separate hard drive, just to try it, and for directx 10, although there's a hack for directx 10 to be on XP. I think because my processor is x86 it can support both 32 & 64bit, so I should probably try 64bit sometime. Do you know if 64bit will do a better job handling Games or Programs?
x86 does not do 64 bit. If it runs the os it wont run it at the full bitrate/bandwidth I would just stick to 32 if I was you than so you can play the olderstuff and yes it runs better for new things but you lose so much I am rather regretting my action and hoping that the new parallel will solve my problem after that maybe give it a try
Pointless to run 95 on a PSP, but cool that you can. emulating a non native architecture is very demanding on resources, so it's no surprise on the 10 minute boot times. I think the mouse control would cause me to break my PSP though.. so I'll stay away from this and stick to other homebrew on my psp.. if I need to run Windows 95, I'll just virtualize it on my PC..
no i fucking have more diplomas on programming then you have :) ruby/perl/pico/xhtml/javascript/java/dev c++/cyber science. and so i know more then u that you cant run 2 operating systems in one thing like the psp because it also has linux kernel aka ofw official firmware in it so you suck dickweeds not to know this shit!
Well, little kid on sugar, at least i don't forget the capital letter, you try to prove me less smart then you but the problem is: "The smart one is not the one who knows more but the one who learns much." :)
Actually, it's supposed to run faster than that. The psp has 32 mb and a 333 mhz cpu, which is more than enough to run Windows 95. Windows 95 is supposed to run fine with about 16 mb of RAM (maybe 8 mb at the very least) on a P1 90 mhz.
the psp has a 333mhz cpu if i'm not wrong, and it also has a pretty good video chip.I don't understand why it looks so slow.I can run win 98se on my old pc that has 133Mhz cpu (slower than PSP),and also has no videocard, just a primitive video chip that has 1mb video memory! explain me why PSP is slower that the shittier PC!

Are you people really this sad to pick on someone's grammar and spelling on the Internet?
astroview120mm 3 years ago
No, I just thought it was ironic that he was telling this guy that he forgot a capital. He should probably check his comments before he posts them.

win95 sux on the psp. its so slow, and it gets BSOD a lot due to the lack of RAM and CPU power
CiniCraft 3 years ago
Actually, it's supposed to run faster than that. The psp has 32 mb and a 333 mhz cpu, which is more than enough to run Windows 95. Windows 95 is supposed to run fine with about 16 mb of RAM (maybe 8 mb at the very least) on a P1 90 mhz.

No, my old win 95 computer has a p75 mhz

the psp has a 333mhz cpu if i'm not wrong, and it also has a pretty good video chip.I don't understand why it looks so slow.I can run win 98se on my old pc that has 133Mhz cpu (slower than PSP),and also has no videocard, just a primitive video chip that has 1mb video memory! explain me why PSP is slower that the shittier PC!
speedaddict2008 3 years ago
becuause the damn psp wasn't made to run windows can you not figure that out!
freehat20 3 years ago 3
Actually it is because it is also running the PSP os too you newb. Treat people with respect before someone older and smarter owns you.
