Hey mate, I gotta honda tornero Sir-t as well. its a 1999 200hp, no engine modifications except sports tires and mags and exhaust. I dont know how to use the v-tec and whent he v-tec kicks in.. bit of help?
Hi shaun, the sir-t uses the F20B engine which produces peak power (197bhp) at 7200rpm. The v-tec "kicks in" automatically, other than a slight change in engine note you shouldn't notice any sudden jump or surge just a steadily increasing rate of acceleration up to the peak at 7200rpm. To get the most out of it you should practice changing through the gears at different speeds aiming to get the motor around 4500rpm or higher ready to accelerate.
k so since i just started driving manual im bit of a noob. i can drive well now but when u said 7200rpm is that the rpm that i need to shift for each gear starting from gear 1? or is it 4500rpm ?
Vtec for an sir-T usually kicks in around 4500 - 4800 rpm's, and all that means is the car is taking bigger than normal gulps of air and fuel to make it go faster.
If youre shifting before 3000rpm for daily driving, thats ok.
U should only be shifting at the redline for drags races and whatnots.
What gazboselectamo meant by '4500' is for racing, that is, to keep your engine speed at around 4500 or higher so that vtec is always engaged, therefore your car would be faster than if it drops below
