  • I no longer love her, that's certain, but maybe I love her.

Love is so short, forgetting is so long.

And the verse falls to the soul like dew to the pasture ...

  • When I first read this poem - it felt like love at first sight... But tonight I feel like I wrote it.

    Thank you Neruda. :)

  • this words hold great beauty, but i think much of gets lost when translated. still beautiful but not te same, in spanish this lines send shivers down my spine and make me want to cry.

  • My favorite translation

  • I love it...

  • hermoso!

  • I've always loved this poem. I just never fully understood it until tonight. My girlfriend broke up with me, and Pablo Neruda expresses perfectly how I feel. Although he does make it so much more depressing too. =(

  • Tonight i can write the saddest lines. Write for exmaple; she has stripped the skin from my naked body only so the brisk air grazes over my bear organs. Though this be the last pain she makes me suffer...

  • I'm in love with him

  • A great Communist and poet! Pablo Neruda, a poet of the working class.

  • i have nothing to do and since my professor told me to read this poem three or two weeks ago i remembered it and try to search in youtube then... BOOM there it is! :D

  • And the verse falls to the soul like dew to the pasture. Deep plesant sigh, ahhhh.

  • This poem always makes me cry. i love the video clip too, very appropriate and has an appeal on its own, an appeal i can't explain.

  • 9 people must not like crying.

  • Pablo is amazing, and this.... this poem and this man's voice... I have shed tears because I am going through this exact situation :'(

  • I loved her and sometimes she loved me too ...........

  • WHAT TO SAY!!!! I LOVE PABLO!!! THANKS FOR POSTING!!1

  • Eventhough I cant understand Spanish....I love his poems but I think it sounds better in spanish.....more romantic.....Pablo Neruda is loved.........................by me.lol

  • is this Andy Garcia? And I know the name of the poem but what was it pulled from?

  • @flickerman68 This is poema XX by Pablo Neruda it is taken from 20 poemas de amor y una canción desesperada (20 love poems and a desperate song).

  • Thats Andy Garcia but where is this from?

  • @flickerman68 its from the soundtrack il postino (the postman). you should watch it

  • @flickerman68 Yes I saw that years ago...I must revisit it.

  • Wow how many times did he get laid by this

  • The beauty is lost in translation... It is beautiful in english, but in spanish it leaves a deeper feeling.

  • @ambaryoselin

Poetry is lost in any translation from emotion to language.

  • may I know the name of this beautiful song please? :)

  • @huongle34 Theme from "il Postino"

  • Beautifully read and so intense I could feel it.

  • Omg i think i fall in love, u have an absolutly beautifull and amazing voice <3

  • I can't stop watching this, even though I've cried every time. This is beautiful. <3

  • This is so beautiful, I love that you read this

  • What woman wouldn't have wanted Pablo Neruda to write her love letters?

  • OMG in spanish is way more beautiful! it touches the heart and cry..In english i just cant feel it.

  • 7 people have no souls

  • Andy Garcia, THE Andy Garcia??? Wooooooooow! He is amazing!!!!

  • Love the video--it captures the gravity of the sadness evoked by the poem. I love Garcia's reading but for one inflection: ",,,but HOW I loved her..."

but he makes up for it when he says "...because through nights..." That little hesitation just floors me! *sigh*

  • this is beautiful.

how lovly a thing for a man to write.

  • I made a poem called:

    "Did he Die?"

  • @Gabester64 dumb

  • anyone know what the music is?

  • @hittingthekeys It's "Mi Mancherai"

  • @hittingthekeys It's the soundtrack for the movie '' Il Postino ''.

  • This poem can only hurt men, it cant touch the heart of a woman i think.

  • @Willowman100

    oh it can..

  • my coffee mug came open in my backpack and destroyed my essential neruda compilation :(

  • I wish we had politicians who could write like Neruda.

    Viva Chile!

  • amazing! but, I find this the poem is different from what I've known, even though only the choice of words.

Is there two translation on this poem?

  • Though this be the last pain that she makes me suffer

and these the last verses that I write for her...

    Painful.....

  • I don't usually make a negative comment, but he wrecked this poem. I can't imagine it being read any more poorly. god, that was bad. Magnificent poem, horrendous reading.

  • @mickindanny Andy didn't really put emotion to it,you know?

  • this is so beautiful, it made me cry.

  • The music is too loud... the reading is beautiful though.

  • Pablo Neruda epitomizes the beauty in sadness in his writings.

"The same night whitening the same trees.

We, of that time, are no longer the same."

    Ah....

  • Pablo you wrote this before me..

you wrote this before my battered heart wept through the unending nights of solitude.

Today I heard your words while passing through these infinite screaming pages ..

and you became the friend of my heart..

  • such a nice video.the creativity is just amazing.

  • really good reading, love love the voice!

  • This is so beautiful!!!!!!!

  • Anyone know where to download this ?

  • WOW!! I cant believe it.

Andy Garcia is actually reading a poem by the great socialist and Nobel Prize winner Pablo Neruda one of the greatest poet of all time?

For a very anti socialist/communist man Andy did a wonderful job.

  • man i have problems with my gf n i love her so much n when i heard this poem at i was crying ='( i wish she never leaves me cuz i dont wanna loss her

  • Yes, in Spanish there are elements, emotions that cannot quite be translated. Pablo Neruda is my favorite poet, and Andy Garcia is the perfect man to recite this.

  • i soo love pablo neruda but i like the spanish version better maybe because spanish its my first language and its amazing how words, verses, poems have the same power in a different language

  • wow, beautiful

  • not as good as original except one line; How could one not have loved her great still eyes.

  • i cried.

  • so did i :'(((

  • I wanna cry because of these so beautiful %% strong words. <3

  • "Love is so short, forgetting is so long...."

    immensely beautiful.

  • @frankajinx FAVORITE QUOTE.

  • @frankajinx In spanish is evern more beautiful. :)

  • I no longer love her, that's certain, but maybe I love her. WTF??!! JUST SICK MEG

  • perfect interpretation and reading

  • i entirely agree. and i'll have to say, when you're heartbroken, you can certainly say this poem tells you what you're feeling, what you're going through. Thumbs up.

  • @doggeusThe author of this poem is Pablo Neruda, Chilean Nobel Prized writer.

    The poem is "Poema 20".

Neruda was hospitalized with cancer at the time of the Chilean coup d'état led by Augusto Pinochet. Three days after being hospitalized, Neruda died of heart failure. Pinochet had denied permission to transform Neruda's funeral into a public event. Chileans disobeyed the curfew and crowded the streets. Neruda's funeral became the first public protest against the military dictatorship.

  • @etniko i can not understand how such a capitalist and lover of freedom could be a communist?? like picasso too.

  • anyone knows the title of the background music??

    its very romantic

  • @benjosephcuyacot it is the Theme from il Postino.

  • thanks.

  • @benjosephcuyacot

    Il postino theme song

  • thanks.

  • "My soul is not satisfied that it has lost her"

OMG! i cannot sleep tonight because of this, i can consume the whole night crying... :(

  • Pablo Neruda's poems are the real voice of humanity deep within, it does not matter who you are and what you are, as long as you are human and has a love in your heart, you will understand this........ RIP to the great poet....

  • The voice in this poem is so perfect. This is how I hear it in my mind.

  • it's andy garcia... perfect isn't it...

  • wonderfull...

  • My fav poem ever !!! .It´s just amazing,Pablo Neruda was a genius!! :-))

  • tonight all i have is a dying heart

    and it hurts like hell

  • neruda has a one-way ticket to anyone's heart. too bad, his words won't really come out, you can't help but cry.

  • his words are your words. antonio machado once wrote, "it is not the essential i the poet is after, but the essential you". so, essentially, pablo's words are yours. there is a sweetness to this suffering you feel. the sweetness when you end up with whom you do fit. when you find the right slipper. . . good luck, look ahead, not back. i found mine, you will find yours!!!

  • I love this poem, best by Pablo neruda, first poem i actually get, i understand ha :)

  • this poems sends me the shivers. i have to say this is my absolute favorite. the saddest... the saddest lines, indeed. :(

  • I love this poem. Andy Garcia does a great job, a very human voice. Beauty, oh what beauty is in these words. It touches my Soul,in ways I could never have imagined. Thank you Pablo Neruda, for the gifts left which you've left behind.

  • Sorry ...

But I personally think this rendition is awful ...

His running over - almost slurring of the words in a hurried manner does no justice to the beautiful nuances in the prose ...

  • I think this reading emulates the feeling of late night nostalgia that comes across when the poem is read silently.

  • So true.....it's 9:43 pm

  • neruda lovers, have you seen the book "Absence and Presence" by Luis Poirot? pictures of neruda, his houses, before, and after his death. great stories from friends in the middle. the last part pictures of neruda, presenting himself.....

  • Though this be the last pain that she makes me suffer and these last verses i write for her

this poem really touches my heart. I can relate on the feelings of the writer

  • Kaya maraming nagpapakamatay ngayon. sobra na yan. hahaha...

  • This is the best recitation of this beautiful poem I have ever heard. Even if it is not in spanish - still great!

  • i love it!! one of my favorite poems by pablo neruda

  • One of the most brilliant pieces of romantic poetry!

    Muchas gracias, Senor Neruda!

  • I love this poem. Thanks for the video

  • Beautiful poem.

  • Beautiful, wistful poem. And Andy Garcia's reading is SO good.

  • why is twilight in every video I watch????? whyyyyy...this is suppose to be about poetry in the most beautiful sense of the word. Why would you bring a teenager's book to this??????? aaaa.

  • i've been repeating this poem in my head for a relly long time.

    andy garcia= <3

    the vid's really good too!

  • the voice captures the melancholy of the poem.. perfect.. i love this poem!!

  • i love this poem fyi greatest poet alive is me

  • this is a good free verse poem, but there is no doubth its better in spanish.

  • I like it. His reading is perfect. Anyway we all have our interpretations.

  • i read this poem in my freshman english class today.

    i really like it too.

  • Good translation, but it does not get close to the spanish version... would you not agree?

  • i don't like the way andy garcia read this. the yearning is not enough.

  • I love Pablo Neruda...my sons middle name is Neruda....

  • johanna olanda un besito

  • Beautiful!

  • Neruda touches the deepest recesses of the soul of those who read his poems... The one who reads the poem is very passionate, he gives life to the letters and made them enter into the heart of listeners... excellent! May i just know the title of the music playing? thanks!!!

  • i think the song plaing in the background is titled " mi mancherai"

  • love it..very good

  • lol wow i would have never connected neruda to edward cullen.

  • must you people tarnish everything with that awful book?

  • yes. i dont get why people are so crazy over it.. and incriminate it to everything else.

  • @ohmaryjoe

awful ya well let s see u write anything worth ur sad life..we can judge then

  • @nishamurli

i'm not sure if that's supposed to be insulting or not, i'm too distracted by your terrible use of the english language.

  • @ohmaryjoe

o dear god i ve been shown my place in the english world..

    relax..

i thot u were referin to neruda when u said that book

  • Edward Cullen...New Moon...bah! It's for silly little girls. It fills me with anger to even see this rubbish mentioned under a clip like this.

    Neruda is real poetry...for adults.

  • well, it's how I interpret the poem.

i have my opinion and you guys have yours. that's why we have our own identity's. we are unique 'cause of that.

i just hope you guys would consider respecting other's own thoughts next time.

    life's more peaceful that way

    :]

  • the most beatiful love poem ever written. love neruda!

  • ★

  • very powerful...andy garcias voice sweeps me off my feet

  • ...through the film 'Il Postino' I found Pablo Neruda.

This poem is so sad and so beautiful and connects me to someone who connects me to the poem.

See the film. It's poetic, too!!!!!

    Thanx for posting!!!!

  • beautiful

  • hermosa voz..

    hermoso poema de neruda!

  • enormus, neruda does't matter en que lenguaje english o espanol always makes cry particularly este poema reminds me sadly mi divorsio

  • Love is "so" short, typo :D

  • This is very beautiful! Where did you get this recording?

    Lisa

  • This recording is from Il Postino soundtrack.

  • Why is it that these words permeate the very fabric of my existence. I wish I possessed the words to articulate the profoundness this work has on my heart. It is somehow haunting but yet very inspiring, Neruda felt such deep passion and expressed this experience with such texture and color. God's Peace Bobby Joyner

  • woot woot. i will i wll =D

  • Everyone myy age don't get whyy i am in love withh poetry like this.

    I am only 13.

I am a veryy big writer myself.

I have even made people cry from myy poetry.

I think that this poem is amazingg.

  • i really appreciated this poem. how can have a copy of these so that my students be able to watch this.

  • This is one of my favorite poems. Thanks for posting.

  • Thank you for sharing this. :)

  • Beautifully spoken... thankyou

  • this was sad

  • Though this maybe the last pain she makes me suffer...you wish!!

  • Anybody who says he has read Neruda is an awesome liar. Reading his words won't convey you the meaning, only living would.

  • but at least you'll have a glimpse of it... maybe because the way neruda wrote the poem puts it to the "non-general" (i don't know) level.. maybe that's why you said that because not most people could feel it. And in my opinion, i don't like to experience it because his words are too powerful for me not wanting it...

  • haha hey jo.. remember me?! Anyways nomatter how hard you try you can't escape love. So hold on. It's going to be a crazy ride!!

'Were beauty under twenty locks kept fast..

yet love breaks through & plucks them all at last' ..?? :)

    W.S

  • Man, this is such a great poem. Neruda is sooo underrated.

  • how? lol he received a nobel

  • I prefer to hear in Spanish...it's more eloquent.

  • ..hmmm ka sAd oOieee!.. =[

  • ang ganda ng boses nya... i love it and i love the poem

  • People are born with a certain talent and Nerudas greatest talent was the ability to express his emotions with words thus creating

    emotions upon reading them!!

  • I have felt this pain way too many times.

  • To touch her hearing?

Geez that is awkward...so much better:

Mi voz buscaba el viento para tocar su oido

Especially since the word tocar means both touch and play (as in Guitar).

  • yeah, but the meaning here wld be to touch, not to play...

my voice was looking for the wind to touch her ear...

  • Its a play on words, I think that Neruda means both, personally...!

  • It is not called "tonight I can write",

es una poema de Pablo Neruda se llama:

Puedo Escribir Los Versos Mas Tristes Esta Noche

And English doesn't due it justice!

  • tonight i can write the saddest lines...

  • If you like Nerduda, read some Charles Bukowski!

  • whats the name of the song?

  • it's not a song. it's a poem by pablo neruda called 'tonight i can write' =)

  • wow amazing

  • WONDERFUL .. speechless .. just tears comes in my eyes

    I love you Peter

  • i love pablo neruda, he is the greatest ever, and so romantic.....
