Do we ever actually find ALL the sample means? Because if we don't, then I don't understand how we can determine what the sample distribution is.

I think I understand How to get it. I just don't get What it does and How it does it.

You can use free-distribution methods; i.e. infer the probability distribution parameters right from the sample.
