Idea of echo began by Marco Uccellini early as 1620s Venezia when there was no harpsichord. Echo was used as an attraction piece played during intermissions or scene change of early opera such as Orfeo. Valveless trumpets already existed. But Russell style harpsichord just does not do the Echo trumpet very nicely as Bologna Lute. Marco Uccellini, Giovanni Gabrieli, and Geralmo Fantini, all were very familiar with Continuo in fact they composed many works for duet of Chitarrone and trumpet.
Two trumpetters are awsome but poor camera setup and repeated noises make difficult to enjoy the video. I would have used an off camera multi-element X-Y condenser microphone mounted on balcony rail and level compressor to prevent clipping. However what happened to two theorbos by the trumpets whilst the conductor is known for his great use of lute players during 1990s? One programme in the middle sounds like Timon of Athens. A harpsichord should not be used for the echo part.
Interesting info, might interest Jordi Savall, I'm no expert. As concernede the so called 'poor camera upset' and the use of an external condenser microphone: Not possible. All filmed with hand held camera and covered display as not to hinder the audience. Next to that it's not allowed to make recordings. So better a 'poor' rcording then none at all, or some dumb studio performance.
Hope you understand that! Thanks for ur comment, notwithstanding
