Have you tried the egg timer's? You put them in the pot with your eggs and they tell you if they are soft, medium, or hard boiled. I think they only run around $5. Also instead of piercing the egg can you use olive oil in the water to stop it from cracking?
I love to cook and can cook just about anything but have never boiled eggs lol! So I am someone who needed this video...thank you! Poke a hole, boil 8 min (I prefer hard boiled), put in ice water immediately after! Easy enough :) My mother used to put vinegar in her water I believe...or maybe that was for poached eggs?
i never poke a hole when i boil my eggs and they never break or crack, But i like to boil them for like 6 mins so their hard enough to de-shell and the yoke is still kinda runny!
i like my boild eggs when yolk turns green!!! i always cook them for a long time just to make sure its cooked all the way... i wont eat the yolk if its undercooked....
@yellowsaffron I didn't know this.... and to think this is how I ate them like this all along! I refer to this video when people tell me I'm wrong for cooking them like I do.
I never knew it took only 8 min. to hard boils and egg.I usually did it for 20 min. because that is how my mother did it. Things like this are good to know.
I had to chuckle when I first saw the title of this video but then I realized that this sort of thing can actually make or break a dish. So thanks for the video.
This may look so simple, which it is, but for some serious future chefs, especially those who aim to compete (topchef, masterchef, ironchef, etc...), this process will be one of the most important things to learn, and could make or break a career! Thanks for sharing this. :)
your 8 minutes egg takes 15 minutes on my stove, will try the piercing trick.

@sshantobia1 Not claiming you did, but boiling an egg straight from the fridge is different to boiling a room temperature egg.

how would you eat/prepare a soft boiled egg??? I have never had one like that. :)
SimpleLu09 11 months ago
@SimpleLu09 The soft boiled egg is what is called in Europe egg "à la coque": you eat it in a small eggcup by dipping the bread into the yolk

I love the intro and style of the tutorial video.
Were the eggs at room temperature or straight from the refrigerator?
joeiswar 11 months ago 2
@joeiswar It's the same, just pierce the shell so they won't break.
On the contrary, when you beat eggs until stiff, it's important they're at room temperature
