  • i think he's just pissed.he's saying 'bed'

  • Damn.

  • I've experience all of this except the cotard syndrome and that I'm dead but given my young age, heavy marijuana use and general introverted personality; I do see this becoming me in my not so distant future. This is the 1st time I've ever talked about this aloud, I have overwhelming feelings that someone in my family is going to die at any point.

  • if i were you would kill me LOL

  • ive been in this mans state for about a year. retaining high nihilistic ideals and extreme self hate etc. i have said the things he says in this video. should i get this looked at?

  • zombie!

  • This really isn't nihilism at all, nihilism is the belief life is inherently meaningless or devoid of absolutes

  • ye hopeless

  • Hoplessness

  • scratching the surface of the human psyche or how the brain truly works. F.F.S. scientists etc. still don't even know the true reason why we dream when we sleep, but that's a whole other can of worms to be discussed elsewhere. All I'm saying is that it's not easy for people who suffer from depression. I have been in counseling and on meds for depression/anxiety since I was 16, and I am now 26. I am just now learning how to deal with/overcome my depressive episodes 10 years later.

  • why is it so hard for people to understand and accept that "depression" is a disorder. It's not black and white. It's easy for you to say, "oh man, I just go for a bike ride and it solves all my problems, you have everything compared to a 3rd world country you have no right to be depressed". Guess what? it's not about them or you. It's about a chemical imbalance in that person's brain or possibly events in someone's life, or possibly even genetic. We haven't even come close to

  • this is as far from nihilism as you can get, this is fatalism

  • depression will not go away by doing fun things or by doing things you like. or by "snapping out of it.". or by "why are you depressed? look at the poor people in the third world countries. they have nothing. you have everything. a big, nice house. two brand new cars. there is no reason for you to be depressed." it only goes away with anti depressants or shock treatment.

  • @judgerofwars I've heard anti-depressants have done incredible things for people but I'm not sure we need to be putting chemicals in our body to fix thought patterns, which I feel depression directly correlates to. My depression always comes on from a thought.

  • delusions or existential realizations?

  • Check out the trailer to the short film "Nihilistic Delusion."

  • What do you call a personality disorder were the person thinks they were a soldier that died in the vietnam war!?

  • what a strange depiction of the subject at hand, the main belief of a nihilist is that humans have no real purpose, this summary simply addresses some form of depression

  • i dont suffer from "hoplessness". reread that DSM, cuntnugget.

  • nihilism is not a delusion, you silly turd.

  • It can lean on the negative side when you add anxiety in the mix ( the natural way of the body to get out of this state) , but it still stands as something different from depression. I call the low of depression " a bubble in hell". The low of apathy seems to be "the living dead".

  • Ok, my take on this. Nihilistic delusion is an aggravated state of apathy not depression. They are similar but different. Depression is more on the negative side of emotional spectrum, apathy is almost neutral. That's why you don't want to die when you suffer from NH, YOU'RE ALREADY DEAD!:) You're empty and that translates to dead.

  • I want to see the Secular Humanist Delusions - the worst kind.

  • Thanks very much for posting these videos. As a med student it helps to see examples of the conditions I read about.

I'm curious, would a doctor who suffered from this disorder still conceive their internal organs are rotted - is there a point at which logic/knowledge can successfully challenge a delusion?

  • @Badhabitsjay your an idiot. You do know that depression is a chemical imbalance don't you?.... Do some research before you leave naive and ignorant comments....

  • 2:18 Hoplessness. I'm pretty sure that he's not not without hopping, so this is false.

  • poor guy i wish i could feel and think how he does just for five minutes to be able to see what goes on in his head and be able to relate and understand him

  • Yeah I was wondering if this was real. It had kind of a carnival freak show atmosphere about it. I tried to analyze the words he was saying but got no impressions. he wasnt dead as far as I could tell and I imagine that there is some treatment that would work for him.

  • Nihilism is truth in the most beautiful form.

Look up active nihilism VS passive nihilism

    Also, obsurdism.

    Stop being stupid, people.

  • @IamLiberation

    absurdism.

  • @310BPM

    Thanks for that. I mistyped.

  • @IamLiberation

no worries. Kierkegaard is definitely one of the philosophers i admire.

  • Hmm, this video gives nihilism a bad name. I'm nihilistic, but I'm happy, and what jack ass coined the term "nihilistic delusions?" This guy thinks he's a zombie, just call him crazy! Here is an idea for a new psycological term "[insert your philosophy here] delusions."

  • this guy needs too be on home,i have no keyboard. rofl.

    really its just therapy.

  • wow...sucks to be this guy...if i was him i would either become a major stoner and overdose while having the best high ever, or i would do the opposite and begin working out like a mad man...this dude needs a shot of adrenaline in him...i gave up on wanting to become a clinical psychologist because i dont have patience for nonsense like this...its a waste of time asking him all these dumb questions...if he does not believe that he has organs cut him open and let him see his guts fall out...lol

  • The thing about the internal organs. Is it just a 'thought' or is it an incorrect interpretation of something they are physically feeling inside as part of the illness?

  • @nephthysuk It can be either. Constipation for example is a common feature of severe depression and may give rise to a delusion that the patient's bowels have rotted away or are missing. In this case the patient believes that they are dead and is in essence a delusion arising from the pathological mood state rather than any physical symptom.

Hope that helps and I appreciate the thoughtful question.

  • OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Depressive disorder is a cluster of symptoms, that is present over a period of time, and associated with significant socio-occupational deterioration... so I may be "depressed", but that doesn't mean I suffer from a "depressive illness"...

This is somewhere I suppose semantics play a role... rather than endless debates about whether to rename schizophrenia... or to rename old age psychiatry....

  • It is my humble opinion that people stop using the term "depression" to refer to this condition.... "depression" is a symptom... while a "depressive illness" or a "depressive disorder" is a syndrome... "depression" is one of the symptoms of a "depressive disorder"....

  • This is MDE plus what? I dont remember hearing about this doing this in behavioral.

  • @CyJoZa This is major depression with psychotic features. Specifically a nihilistic delusion. The particular delusion shown has also been given the eponymous name "Cotard's syndrome" described by Cotard in 1882.

  • Put them in a life or death situation, being attacked by a knife, or in a warzone.

They'll quickly drop this and revert to wanting to live. I'm pretty sure basic survival instinct would override it.

  • @Badhabitsjay Sorry but you're completely wrong about this one. A common misconception is that depression is a 'choice' and given the right circumstances people pull themselves together. In circumstances such as you describe he would sit there. In this stage of depression people may stop eating and drinking and it can become life threatening.

Thanks for posting a comment. Whilst I may disagree it's all part of useful debate.

  • @Badhabitsjay i understand your statement, but you obviously dont understant mental illness as a whole.

  • @Badhabitsjay I am suffering this kind of delusion too. I wasnt sure until that guy said: it has sense to me.

It is pshycological but the problem is that this is the one and only delusion where you are medicaly normal and pshycologicaly normal but you still suffer. Putting me in life or death situation wont make me snap out of it, it will just push me over the edge.

  • @Badhabitsjay you may find interestnig reading about Mademoiselle X and Cotard Syndrome. Depression it's not a choice, this patient really thinks he is dead and he won't do anything that "living" people do, like eating or drinking water.
