  • the estate tax is devastating to rural communities and small business. if the head of the household dies unexpectedly, the family must often sell their farmland or business just to cover the tax. for estates over 1 million the amount taxed could be at 55%! It's a job killer for anyone who is employed with these farms and small businesses. he can crow about unemployment all he wants but having no estate tax actually helps grow jobs. btw this is coming from someone currently unemployed.

  • What idiots sheeple Dems and their supporters are. Just what kind of ass hole thinks they have the right to tax dead peoples estate just because they died? How does their death justify their monies being re-taxed AND at 50%? Any 1 who supports this socialist deserves to live in North Korea where they can get the big government they so want.

  • Great speech.Too bad the sheeple are not listening.

  • It shouldn't be ok to tax someone who has worked hard all their life after they are dead. If the family can't come up with the 50% tax, what happens then? Families that are farmers and ranchers lose their estates if they can't pay the difference. and that isn't right.

  • i cant believe how heartless some of these republicans are. How can they sleep at night. I'm speechless.

  • @glade718

You are an idiot. Giving "tax cuts" to billionaires and how are they going to "pay for that". AS IF all money is the governments, and they are just so gracious as to let us keep a portion of it.

I got an idea, how about the government SPENDING LESS and DOING LESS. They try that yet? No, they haven't. They wouldn't have to raise taxes on anyone, even billionaires if they would but the fuck out of everyones lives.

  • I have Bernie Bumper stickers. 10% will be Donated to Senator Sanders. This guy rocks!!

  • I love this man!

  • Stop the trillion dollar US funded, corporate wars on the world. Take care of America!

  • @TheUSVET I totally agree with you. Congress cuts everything but the defense budget. They won't even consider cutting that or stopping the war, why because war is big business for the rich while the poor keep signing up and dying for their country.

  • Bless this man! With so much of our senators being either far-right or corrupt, it's amazing to see someone speak so plainly on behalf of normal people. In the U.S. senate, too! It's amazing; I wish I could've seen how full that room was, or any response to his comments, but I've got to say that I admire Mr. Sanders for making them.

  • nodeathtax (dot) org (slash) responsible-estate-tax-act-is-irresponsible the case against this Estate Tax proposal. I would encourage you all to read the blog. Billionaires taxes do not work because billionaires hide their money in Family Foundations. The billionaire that Senator Sanders talks about is a man that crafted his wealth from 10,000 dollars and one truck. His family deserves his wealth.

  • @Shawn12790 THEN LET HIM NOT PAY TAXES, BUT ANYONE ELSE GETTING SOME OF HI MONET PAY TAXES......................

  • @akwhiteraven what? Sanders also neglects to mention that the Estate Tax results in a revenue decrease for the government because of compliance costs. Meaning we pull from the other tax funds to pay for having an estate tax. It's a terrible policy. Sanders is only on board because he is an admitted socialist (I never use the s word unless someone admits to it)

  • The top 5% in this country control Congress. This is about these folks paying their 'fair share'.

Republicans use issues of racism, sexism, fake religious 'morality', xenophobia .. anything they can get their hands on to convince the working class to support them. With the help of the corporate media spewing the propaganda and lies, they have mostly succeeded. Democrats have bought into Reagan's trickle down VooDoo economics as well.

Tax the rich, fairly. It's all we want.

  • The benefits went to corrupt bankers.

  • I would vote for this man! Grayson/Sanders 2012!!!

  • Well said, Bernie. You are the only decent one in that body.

  • Thank you Bernie! We love you!

  • The GOP doesn't want to end dubya's depression.

  • High time! Thanks Bernie!

  • NICE JOB BERNIE!

  • Way to kick ass Bernie.

  • I do wonder why the seats behind him are empty. do the rest of the senators not go to work?

  • @ThePassiveFist I think if any of us really knew how little our politicians work for the exorbitant wages they earn, we'd have a revolution. Most of them are too busy soliciting corporate bribes worth many times their measly salaries to bother with the post to which they were elected, that put them in the position to be a bribe-whore. The best politicians money can buy. This is so shocking, where's our justice?

  • @madamezora7

I agree. the country where i live isn't much better, but at least here our politicians sit in parliament and sleep - they at least show up.

i think that until the govts do something REALLY shocking, most people will just sit there in apathy. it's sad really.

our freedoms will not be taken away by a frontal assault. they will slowly be whittled away until we have nothing left. and they'll do it for 'our protection'

  • @ThePassiveFist

Chilling, isn't it? I vacillate between wanting to change the world, and wanting to hide from it. Sometimes I wish our politicians would sleep- their idea of doing things is starting wars. Never a shortage of defense contracts to kill brown people.

Tell me, if you had all the money in the world at your disposal, would that really be the most exciting thing you could think of? I think that's what really bothers me the most- I really just don't get it.

  • @madamezora7

the thing that really kills me is that for a FRACTION of what we spend on bombs, tanks, weapons and jets in ONE YEAR, the whole world's food and water problems could be sorted out. the only thing that seems to matter anymore is money. people say that Capitalism is better than Communism, and I agree - but this is ridiculous. if there was a world Government, that treated all people as equals, there would be no need for defense. but that's where the money is so it won't happen. sigh

  • Sanders is one of the few in congress that tells the truth.

  • Grayson/Sanders 2012!

  • what is the fairness logic of anybody who worked their whole life and paid HUGE taxes while alive to have ANY of the money they accumulated at death for their family be taxed even one penny to provide for government breaucrats, wars, intrest on debt that should NOT exist and to other families who FAILED to save for a rainy day.

Death taxes are just theft from dead people who somehow managed to pay lifetime taxes and still save for a rainy day.

FYI: Most rich leave their $ to charity

  • @unameitltd lol untrue

  • @unameitltd FYI, most wealthy leave their $ to their dopey, emotionally crippled children who promptly ruin their lives with it. I've got no problem whatsoever "stealing" from ultra rich DEAD people at the highest half percent of income earners.

What is this ghastly sympathy for billionaires lately, have we lost our collective minds? These are the people who have moved jobs overseas and found every loophole imaginable to avoid taxes while alive- you are delusional.

  • @madamezora7 A. You don't know to whom the rich leave their money; B. It's none of your business, anyway; C. It's their money, not government's; D.The dopiest, most emotionally crippled people who ruin their lives are either in government or dependent on it.

This ghastly sympathy for government lately is the result of collectivists minds. We're not a socialist people, and we were founded by people who specifically warned us about such people and their leaders.

  • @SpotlightEntrance A. Actually, I do know what the rich do with their money- I arranged living trusts for them for years. B. It IS my business when I am taxed at a higher rate than someone making 100 times what I make pays. C. A portion of MY money is the government's, and just because they've got expensive lawyers to get them out of paying their fair share while they're alive doesn't mean we can't settle up when they're dead . D. Cry me a river. The founders also warned about banking cartels.

  • @madamezora7 A. That is still totally immaterial to your demands. B. I'm sure they pay far more total money into the treasury than you do, and that you wouldn't mind them being taxed at a much higher rate than you. C. If you decide that your money is the governments, you still have no right to say anyone else's is. D. And they said that free market's inherent mechanisms would break them.

  • Billionaire families representing the top one per cent of our population, getting politicians to do their bidding is not new, but we sure could use a change from this.

  • @OnenessNow Complete agreement here!

  • @OnenessNow No, it's not new, but being this blatant about it is. The problem is this- Americans are now soooooooo stupid, that the corporate whores can now just come right out and say "I've taken your money but I still want more" and the morons will grab their ankles and exclaim "Praise Jesus!!". I am beginning to truly despise stupid ppl.

  • @madamezora7 How are corporations taking our money and demanding more? Government and its worshippers, absolutely. But corporations?

  • @SpotlightEntrance I couldn't believe that was a real question, then I saw you just joined today- I'm honoured. *rolls eyes*

  • @madamezora7 But you apparently have no answer. So I will assume that you made up your claim, or heard it from somewhere and just believed it because you like it.

  • @SpotlightEntrance

You don't understand how anything works do you.

BP is not an American entity. The disaster they created is costing the American people. BP set up in the Marshall Islands to avoid US regulations. That = more profit. At the expense of people's livelihood.

Also note that the payments to compensate people for their loss will be taxed.

Then you look at 'net operating loss' (cooked books) for BP on their tax, designed to = 0.

  • @jancivil Are you this concerned about government disasters that have cost the American people trillions? And how does BP operating somewhere else come "at the expense of people's livelihood'?

Speaking of not understanding how anything works, you need to get that untaxed money is not "stolen" from anybody, and I can't believe that I have to explain this to an adult. Where do you learn this junk? How much are others suffering from taxes you don't owe and haven't surrendered?

    Good grief.

  • @SpotlightEntrance

Government disasters, which ones? Wait, that ISN'T EVEN THE TOPIC!

Wonder why you make that dodge?

The BP operations are demonstrably criminal, look it up. People who operate honestly in the regions they RUIN have something taken from them in the_most_profound manner. That's lost on you with your mouth around the corporate dick.

You can't read between the lines, because you are predisposed to some bullshit.

Look up the word suffering some time, you nitwit.

  • @jancivil BP wasn't the topic either but that didn't stop you. Did it, jancivil?

Your bigotry toward corporations only further supports your worship of criminal, greedy, destructive government, which came out in your previous post.

There's no point in trying to reason with the brainwashed; they don't think for themselves.

  • @SpotlightEntrance

Corporations under federal regulations is clearly the topic. You've dodge it to make a half-assed attempt at a rant which addresses nothing cogently. You've used no reasoning/made no actual attempt at a cogent argument and failed to respond to a single point.

You fail to have a working definition of simple terms.

You are an absoiute idiot posing as someone with an idea. You haven't one.

You are the one here who's swallowed something hook line and concrete block, Rand?

  • @jancivil The topic that you jumped into the middle of, liberal first, was the ESTATE TAX.

I know you're a liberal, but insults and name-calling just aren't an argument, execept to you and your robotic friends. One day, you'll actually have to come up with one.

I'm sure it will be funny.

  • @SpotlightEntrance 'the topic of this page is the topic; federal regulation of corporate excesses. You can dodge that all night long with innuendo.

You know nothing of my views other than they are vehemently anti-corporate,

:*liberal* That's name-calling, which you think a faux politeness and wink wink condescension mask. Pot meet kettle.

'Your worship of', that's called a straw man fallacy, You can't demonstrate that, or address a single point with the coherency of a schooboy.

  • @jancivil Speaking of dodging...you've never, ever heard that some discussions go off on tangents? Have you berated madamezora7, to whom I was RESPONDING, for that? Or is this yet another liberal double standard?

Just because corporations don't steal government goodies for you doesn't make them evil.

Decades of consistent behavior eliminate the "straw man" defense. I don't buy rhetoric. I watch what people do over time.

And you're just the latest coming of the same old Leftist cavalry.

  • @SpotlightEntrance

"robotic" "brainwashed" aren't names you called? what a joke.

I made an actual point about BP which is congruent with the Wall Street (PAGE TOPIC), which you can't fake your way around, so you resort to straw manning me.

you're almost on part with sarah palin intellectually.

  • @jancivil Now Sarah Palin? I'm not playing "catch the greased liberal" with you. You're absolutely all over the place. Pure hatred does that to peoples' thinking.

I don't care what you said about BP. All I've seen from your ilk is bile, accusation, grabbiness, and contempt for an oil company, which is absolutely nothing different from its attitude BEFORE the oil spill! So it's impossible separate the intentions from the rhetoric.

  • @SpotlightEntrance

here is an actual example of 'idiotic': 'bigotry towards corporations'

look up bigotry. seriously. if you have a diploma from a high school, the standards must be damned low where you were.

  • @jancivil I guess you need to look up "idiotic" (hint: it doesn't mean "someone who disagrees with you").

You need take your nose out of the air when you post one wrong thing after another.
