  • A song of depth and power!

  • Squankynut: No you are not alone with liking CAS as a Genesis fan of nearly 40 years standing (First album bought 1970 in the bargain bucket Genesis to Revelation (sadly stolen back in the 80's) so have been through most of their career with them. I agree Wilson should have given it more time but sadly it was killed off because the americans thought it was Phil Collins and Genesis.

CAS cuts it with the latter albums but is a poor shadow compared to the likes of the Lamb and SEBTP.

  • Phil shouldn't have left in the first place, his solo career took a nose dive in 1993

  • very boring song

  • @Satiaraha no it isnt

  • Am I the only one who actually liked CAS and actually thought Ray was a great replacement for Phil?

I was lucky enough to see the CAS tour live in 1998 and I loved it! Ray wasnt given a chance to prove he was more than good enough - then again Genesis fans are notoriously hard to please (including myself before anyone takes offence)

  • After Steve Hackett left Genesis I didn't listen any other albums by them...

  • @AleDaino

Agreed, after he left, gone was the mystery

  • im a phil collins kinda thicksaice

  • God if this is bad. id hate to here what the B-side sounded like.

  • @audiotrauma The B-side isn't too bad, actually. I have all of them :)

  • pretty much the only part of "calling all stations" that wasnt horrendous

  • where's was phil

  • did Phil Collins ever sing this?

  • With Phil The Genesis is very, very best!

  • I wish Genesis would bring a new album out that was more like the albums of old, with more guts and soul. Pink Floyd didnt change drastically yet are still a huge success. Just because an album isnt in the so called charts, doesnt mean it wouldnt be any good.. The charts are full of shit listened to by 18 year olds. True fans will always buy Genesis.

  • i know what you mean, i am 18 and i'd chose genesis or other bands of that era before any of the crap people listen to now. gabriel and collins and people of that time had that edge that no one seems to have these days, its all about copying or sampling past songs.

  • Me encanta Genesis de siempre, pero este vocalista estaba a la altura del grupo. Una pena que no siguieran.

  • Ive always been impressed with the singer on this album. He has huge boots to fill, yet he doesn't try to emulate Phil, he brings something new to the table and it works, for me anyway

  • wether or not phill colins is with this band, this is still a good song, good vocals. i like it. makes a change from listening to one of my favorite bands, one of the greatest bands in the world for me, MEGADETH :) they rule!!

  • No it's not...

  • whats the message of the vid

  • who hasn't got a clue should shut up and get back i.f.o. his tv with his beer... :-(

This IS Genesis...anyway not on of their best albums...

  • even though the song isnt that bad..right?

  • Great song - cool vocals

  • En este video hay un pequeño error la chica morena que va en el carro, tiene una aleta en la espalda, pero cuando esta nadando desaparese la aleta.

  • i remember about this song... it`s about 12-13 years old... it was even my favourite song!!!! i remember recording it from the radio... no ipods at that time... who sings this song, anyway?

  • genesis...................................

  • Great relax song :o)) i love it.

  • i listened this a few times and iam starting to like it...

  • Not very Genesis......

    Song is "really" ok....

  • I love Genesis - except for ´the years 1986 to 1992 - with Ray, new life came to the band, but unfortunately it seems that this did not bring in enough money for Tony and Mike, so they dropped the whole thing like a hot potato... absolutely sad...

  • not really...beating a bit a of a dead horse

  • @Boimarin They didn't even tell Ray that they had let him go - so Ray waited for about a year before he found out (in his own words - "like death by silence").

  • nice try !phil is the best !!!!!!!!!!!

  • Very good song!

  • such a great song,

a shame collins didn't sing that one...

  • this is not genesis with strangers

  • Yes, it's pop, but a great one.

  • Great song!

  • Kocham ten utwór ! :*

  • To nie jesteś sam. Phil jest OK.

  • One of the last great songs to come out in the 90's. I haven't heard any new track of this quality since then.

  • Impressive looking clip

  • bot as gd as collins but o well it would be hard to find somone that gd

  • it had to be a good singer to replace collins and they found him in ray .a great album that maybe was a bit too commercial but arent everybody else around them trying to be.remember they like every body performing artists alike are a selling product and maybethey have had there time,it doesnt mean the partys over,by far.they will be back.

  • i love Ray and the album too

  • This is great song and the album was great too!!! Too bad Ray didn't get a chance to do another album.

  • The chorus is the best part of the song :)

  • guitar rocks ;-)

  • Great, I always liked this song, but I prefer the album version

  • I love Genesis, this is without the great Phil Collins but a very good Song of Genesis, i like the part at 2:00

  • strangely enough my favourite Genesis song

  • Genesis after Phil? I had no idea! Good song!

  • Genesis went through a lot of transformation..... it´ll go on, what them.

  • I wish ray had done more with the band. His voice is great.

  • Yeah, this song is awesome.

I remember reading that he had to record the vocals on this album with having to listen to Phil Collins singing them on his earphone. He adressed the experience as "rather irritating".

  • hell no,, Phil had nothing to do with Calling all stations at all!!

  • we´re talking about genesis in school at the moment and today we heard that song.

    I LOVE IT

send me to the congo,ya have to believe

    <3<3<3<3

  • I'm leaving to the Congo next week!!

    I cant belive it man...

I've been listening to this since I was a kid... I never did understand what does "send someone to the "CONGO"' meant...

    Now I do... unbeilivable

    excuse my english.

    Do what you please!!

  • I always liked this song, but I prefer the album version which begins with real Congolese voices and playing.

Interesting direction for the video, though.

  • This is a great song. They should try to record another album despite the critics...Is a very interesting and darker sound for Genesis.

  • Gotta give it to Mr Wilson for filling the vocal shoes for Phil. I give him a lot of credit, sounds a lot like an angry Peter Gabriel. ^^

  • it's a delusion... tony what have you done...

  • awesome song

  • Good Song..Good Singer... well done Ray

  • Although they didn't enjoy as much success with Ron Wilson, this is not a bad Genesis song. Thank for posting it. :)

  • Ron lmfao

  • I really like this song for some reason. I mean Phil Collins is hard to beat, but this guy has a quite meaningful voice to Genesis. Personally, if you were there when Gabriel left Genesis, the feelings just kind of linger.

  • Wow! That video looks like it's been pulled from one of the Mad Max movies. Not bad song, but I'll always feel that Genesis is not complete without Phil Collins.

  • Phil is amazing but ray wilson is pretty good

  • gr8

  • this is more of a peter song.

    JON

  • I personally think the singer on this is actually quite good. He isn't better or wosre than Phill collins, he is about the same.

  • as long as Tony Banks is writing and contributing musically it will sound like Genesis - not to take anything from Mike

  • Phil Collins is much better!

  • this should have been a hit - it sounds like the 90's and it sounds like genesis.

  • @beng1lh00ly

I totally agree. I heard it one or maybe two times ages ago ... and I discovered it was a Genesis' masterpiece only recently.

  • Calling all the stations was a great album. Ray Wilson at vocals, Mike Rutherford at guitars and Tony Banks at keyboards. A great Genesis without Phil Collins. A Genesis fan since Trespass

  • I do agree

  • give the guy a break. he was filling big shoes. and i personally think he did it quite well

  • right next to "We can't dance". They put this on their, but no older Genesis clips and no Steve Hackett interviews. I lost interest after ABACAB. When I reach for a Genesis album, it ain't gonna be "Mama" or "Invisible Touch"

  • This is the first time I've seen this video, although I've liked the song since it came out. WOW! Two things kept this from being a bigger hit: it wasn't Phil Collins and it came out about the same time as the movie Congo and had nothing to do with the movie.

  • Ofc this is Genesis. Its on the Calling All Stations album. And yea, its different from the rest of thier stuff and thats also why I really love this song...

  • what is this song actually about?

  • It's about a breakup. Hard to explain what it's about exactly. But listen to the lyrics and you'll know.

  • I didn't believe it, too, but I found some pieces of information. Ray Wilson is the singer here. The song was written a short period of time after the moment, when Phil Collins left the band.

  • I have to say also...Not Genesis, totally different style.

  • Genesis does have different styles, though. That's the point.

  • Genesis meets Toto. Cool.

  • i love lamp. i love desk.

  • Well Metal is very different from Genesis.

  • not genesis

  • One of Genesis's finest tracks! Great stuff.

  • This is like having nick lache as the lead singer of the rolling stones.... no dice

  • very very good!

  • I must admit I was a little skeptical when this record came out. Being a Genesis fan to the core I didn't feel anybody could replace Phil but Bryan Wilson did a pretty good job on this album. But then again as long as Tony keeps writing the songs, it doesn't matter who sings them. He is just brilliant. This is the best band in the world PERIOD! I would fly to the moon to see them!

  • totally right, but this is Ray Wilson, not Bryan

  • Calling All Stations was a brilliant album. It's a shame the record company in America didn't market it at all. Heck, I am huge Genesis fan and even I didn't know it had come out until I saw one little poster in the record shop.

  • I am a HUGE Genesis fan......from Gabriel to now. And this album is not bad at all.

  • @xrobevansx:

yepp, "calling all stations" is great. it takes some time to accept and adjust to, but then some of the songs are really fantastic. 'the dividing line', 'one mans fool'!

  • GR8 )) !!!!!

  • The girl is very ugly !!!

  • I really dont understand wht they fired him.... one of the best song from genesis

  • Ray Wilson IS a very nice guy, I think, and also very talented. But... Phil Collins always was the center part of Genesis, and I'm glad he's back.

  • The name of this guy is Ray Wilson

  • The troops in this video look a bit like the Federation soldiers from Blake's 7 :)

  • Took me a while to appreciate the new singer, and I still enjoyed the albume "Calling all Station" (my dad hated it though being a music purist that is) but I agree that its not genesis anymore.

  • Without Phil Collins, but a great Genesis Song

    I love Genesis. 2:01

  • it dosnt matter who was ``original´´ a member of genesis

music is about the music not the artist

and by the way i love this songg :)

  • the only Genesis song i like.

too bad the album version sucks.

  • phil collins may not have been a original member of genesis but after replacing peter gabriel is when Genesis started getting famous. When people think genesis they think phil collins plain and simple.

  • I should add that when i say replaced him I mean replaced him as lead vocals.

  • without phil collins it would just be gen

  • I think...

    that the video is nice

but the song is Not really...

  • This is the only good song they put out - post Phil

  • I hope your not implying that Phil Collins was the original vocalist. He wasn't even in the original lineup.

I actually like this guys vocal style, not so happy about some of the backing music though, still to synth-popy.

  • its not a genesis song

it should be a song that another artist would release

  • I think Peter Gabriel sang in Genesis from the beginning. Phil was a drummer.

This one here was one CD shot..they have never recorded anything more.

  • Yea, I realized this is the singer after Phil. But, when Genesis was 1st formed, Phil was not in it. He came into Genesis a litle later on. Genesis wasn't originally mainstream(You probably know that though lol).

  • I think that calling all the station is a good album and congo is a very good song

  • Like a soldier ant....

I love this song, and the entire Calling All Stations album. I don't care what anyone says.

Incidentally, If you play Ray singing "free to leave" backwards, he says "Free to leave"!

  • Poor Genesis - this song was all I could think of listening to news about the poor benighted Congo and its peoples.

I would never be the one to say you had no reason

To want me somewhere else far far away

But someday you may understand, someday you will see

That someone who would die for you is all Ive ever been

  • Wow...I thought Ray was supposed to completely written out of Genesis history?

  • Comment removed

  • that rocks!! :))))

  • Really too bad Ray never really never had a chance...he could've done so much more with Tony & Mike

  • I actually like this song, even though Phil isn't singing.

  • being a better vocalist doesn't make you a beter musician. Sorry but this song is average. Nothing special. Sounds like a duran duran song.

  • Perhaps a little,but that isn't necessarily a bad thing...overall,I think it's a pretty cool song.

  • lol duran duran

  • Agreed,I have this album it is very good

  • I hate people who say this album was a waste and that Ray is a bad singer, you have to respect the fact that they tried moving into a new direction, i bet if they would have gave it more time they could have became succsesful (sorry about the spelling mistake), and Ray is an amazing singer, just not quite with this type of music.

  • It would never have worked, when ppl wanna hear genesis they are looking for a certain sound and this is not even close to it. If this was a Different name other than genesis, it might have worked.

So the resaon ppl are saying the album was a waste etc is because they are looking for a "Genesis sound" and to put this in and say its genesis was a total disappointment

  • well, i can agree with you on that

  • Ray Wilson is a very very good singer. He is technically a more competent vocalist than Collins. It's just that simple. Anyone who would disagree likely is not a musician. (Plus he has a very soulful quality to his voice that is very similar to Gabriel.)

  • LOL!

  • Congo is pretty much the only good song on this work, besides There Must Be Some Other Way... It just isn't Genesis without Phil Collins or Peter Gabriel!

  • You're so very right! When they lost Peter in '75, it was a decline from that point on.

  • I beg to disagree...

  • I think a Genesis needs Tony and Mike. That's what has always kept them going. And Phil's a badass drummer, no bones about it. Having Phil in the writing process made the music much more rhythmic and bombastic, this album is kinda monotonous. Some great writing by Tony, however. They should have hired Nick D'Virgilio permanently!! Look up his performance on the Modern Drummer Festival '03! He can sing AND play the drums.

  • I agree. Tony, Mike, and Phil all belong in Genesis. They were excellent in concert last fall - a concert I will never forget.

Peter Gabriel, Genesis is better off without. Genesis had great success and while Peter Gabriel isn't bad, I think he would've drug down the group as a whole. It's for the best that he went solo.

  • He would have drug down the group? And what planet is it that you live on?

  • 1997,nice song.

  • I haven't heard anything from this album.... until now. I was scared to, being the first album not to have Phil on vocals since 1975. But you know what, it's not that bad. I might have to pick up that new double-disk they released last year. Too bad this music video was only aired on MTV in the US once.

  • The singer is Ray Wilson, formerly of Stiltskin.

  • this does'nt feel like genesis who was the lead singer of this video

  • great song i love dr congo

  • this song means alot to me my motheland is african (dr congo) a beautiful country that i love with so much history in it im love being an african british god bless my country

  • I love this song and this era !

  • genesis forever...super songa!!!

  • Genesis gehört seit Jahrzehnten zu meinen absoluten Favoriten. Auch wenn Phil nicht mehr dabei ist, egal, die Musik ist immer noch große Klasse! Danke OfficialGenesis!
