Heimdall in the movie is based on the Thor: The Mighty Avenger version, so please, shut the hell up about the fact that he's not white. It's a good movie, and his actor did a good job in the role.
However none of this has anything to do with Scandinavia, which was unaffected by the conquest of the moors or other peoples. And Norse mythology was created long before the moors were in Spain, even long before Christianity. Why do people feel the need to change history? Don't you have your own myths and culture? Do you now reinvent history? The moors just conquered parts of Spain for a few centuries until they where thrown out again during the reconquista. The rest of Europe saw them as a thread and enemy. I'm disappointed to see how the reactions of a black Heimdall compare to the casting that was done in The Last Airbender. It's essentially the exact same thing, with authenticity of the fiction being thrown out the window by casting actors in roles of characters with completely different races. However, while everyone was against the white actors in Airbender, everyone seems for a black Heimdall. Why? Him being black doesn't improve the character in any way, so why bother changing him at all?

I agree with you. Heimdall. was my favorite character in this movie. What people need to realize is this movie isn’t actually based 100% Norse Mythology. Thor has red hair and a beard. I didn’t see anyone complain making Thor stereotypical blonde with blue eyes? Also white actors have always played characters that aren’t even white. Example; Prince of Persia. But so what. @DemonicGemini I think the problem lies in the fact that Heimdall is specifically referred to as the "whitest of gods" in Norse myth and the fact that his sister Sif is played by a white woman doesn't help. Also Heimdall having a mouth full of gold teeth might seem in bad taste considering the circumstances. If you'd read any online forums, areas where arguments surrounding controversies in works of fiction such a this are most prominent, you'd see that plenty of people complained about Jake Gyllenhaal being the Prince of Persia and even more about the use of Ultimate Nick Fury (the black Fury) over the original white Nick Fury in the upcoming films. Personally, I see this more of an issue of authenticity and loyalty to a work of fiction than of race.

I agree with you. Heimdall. was my favorite character in this movie. What people need to realize is this movie isn’t actually based 100% Norse Mythology. Thor has red hair and a beard. I didn’t see anyone complain making Thor stereotypical blonde with blue eyes? Also white actors have always played characters that aren’t even white. Example; Prince of Persia. But so what. I would be upset about a black guy being cast as Heimdall if this movie was seriously trying to portray Norse mythology. But this is the Thor from Marvel comics! It is not supposed to be an accurate portrayal of the Norse pantheon by any means and already took huge liberties in the comic book version. One of the warriors three is a Dártagnon-Musketeer style character by all means. People should relax.

@DemonicGemini I think the problem lies in the fact that Heimdall is specifically referred to as the "whitest of gods" in Norse myth and the fact that his sister Sif is played by a white woman doesn't help. Also Heimdall having a mouth full of gold teeth might seem in bad taste considering the circumstances. While in all honesty I don't care especially since I've been told he was really good as the character, I still can't help but feel that this is just another case of PC when its not needed.

If you'd read any online forums, areas where arguments surrounding controversies in works of fiction such a this are most prominent, you'd see that plenty of people complained about Jake Gyllenhaal being the Prince of Persia and even more about the use of Ultimate Nick Fury (the black Fury) over the original white Nick Fury in the upcoming films. Personally, I see this more of an issue of authenticity and loyalty to a work of fiction than of race.

He isn't an Asgardian himself, actually, though I don't think the film ever comments on this (they don't even refer to The Destroyer armor as "The Destroyer"). As I said before, this isn't so much about race as it is authenticity. If they made Hogun white, you'd have comic loyalists up in arms, I assure you.

I know this is Marvel and you can't take this movie serious, but even adding black guy to play "The White God", is just beyound stupid. I do not care if others don't want to stand up if some white guy plays African god, that's their choice. I can see that it's wrong if someone does that and in this case they can see it too, but no body gives a fuck. It's not racism, it's called respecting your nationality and history.
