  • what was that tune at the end!

  • Actually for the record Namco never made Mrs. Pac-man, Ms. Pac-man was made by Bally-Midway from a Pac-man hack they bought. The game just ended up being so successful that Namco decided to make it "offical"

  • My friend Dug digs Dig Dug XD

  • These were probly the best graphics on the 2600

  • Minecraft 1.0

  • I liked the nes one better

  • @DarkLuigi4321

    How did you play it?

  • @IAmClearlyTheBest funny i dont remember the game ever being too challenging. now defender thats a really tough game it will kick your ass!

  • @IAmClearlyTheBest how can you suck at it? its the easiest most pointless game ever made.

  • Those sounds bring back memories,,,

  • lol i love the dig dug SONG

  • I love Dig Dug's sound effects.

  • dig dug is overrated!

  • @mandy26lez you can't shit on Dig Dug. Anyone who shoots their enemies in the back while running away and inflating them to their doom with a bike pump is the coolest character ever.

  • Hello all! Fellow vintage/retro gaming lover here. I am looking for other retro gamers interested in doing some retro gaming online, via Kaillera client. I love MAME, Atari (all 8-bit) Intellivision, MSX, S/NES, etc. I am flexible & open to most gaming genres, but I prefer games that offer 2 player team/simultaneous & co-op play. Anybody who's interested, please feel free to let me know. We can set something up & do a little retro gaming! :-)

  • The 7800 version has the same sounds as the 2600 version, which should come as no surprise.

  • Be honest, if you hadn't played Dig Dug in the arcade, you wouldn't have known WTF was going on in the Atari 2600 port. The graphics are that horrible.

  • i have a 2600!

  • my thoughts at the start of the vid:

    Atari 2600: classic

    Atari 7800: ok

NES: epic and brings back a lot of memories

    Sega Genesis: also very good

    Xbox 360:...whatever

    PS3: AWESOME!!!

  • dig dug for xbla is the best way to spend 80ms points!

  • @socillizt4life Namco Museum for Playstation. Best version ever.

  • love atari but when i play most classic games unless its genesis or snes i usually LOVE to hit the mute button on my tv

  • wow this game version is old

  • Comment removed

  • man, i remember this from my childhood. Thanks so much for reminding me of this :)

  • this is the most enjoyable classic game room video ever... The digdug music is awesome!

  • i love the theme music

  • wizard of wor is the game for you Pacman +guns

  • Dnload the audio from this track at thetunify doht cohm.

  • Man! 2008 reviews! awesome!!!

That infro!!! that outro!!!! Simlply great!

  • This was a fierce competition for the graphics award against pong.

  • @6:20 I like the fact that they had music at all- a real rariety in 2600 atari games at all.

  • Such a beautiful penis

  • i have namco 20 th anneversery for ps2 with this game, galaga, xexoius pacman, and all the classic namco games

  • The sound is almost identical to the 7800, and the graphics are very impressive for a game console from the 70s. Best 2600 game I've seen so far.

  • you should do some movie reviews :D

  • wow this looks great for a 2600.

  • Simple looking as expected but the gameplay is spot-on.

  • This was easily the best game for the 2600, IMO...

My Atari 2600 STILL WORKS all these years later ! Wish the 5200 had been built so well....

  • Poor Creatures.. :-(

  • This turned out way better than Pac-Man did...

  • they actually inflate someone with a pump in live and let die which woulda been a better reference:P

  • I used to play this at Ceasar Land as a kid...then got it for Atari. It was the stuff dreams were made of.

  • i played the one on the NES i had but now... i bought it on wiiware!

  • actually Namco didn't make Mrs. Pac-man Bally-Midway did along with Jr. Pac-man, Namco did Pac-man, Super Pac-man and Pac and Pal

  • @Evilmonkey66699

Namco (short for "Nakamura Amusement Machines Company") did own the main rights; Bally/Midway secured U.S. rights to Pac-Man and sequels while Atari got Dig Dug (this game), Pole Position and Xevious.

  • Terrible grapics. but fun game

  • This ought to be the best graphics on the Atari 2600

  • @JOESONYNERD nah, tunnel runner beats it i rekon

  • My cousin had this game.I liked it but didn't really got addicted to it.

  • @EthanBe123 wtf are you talking about? this version is awesome! c'mon, we're talking about a console from 1977

  • @EthanBe123 "Dig Dig"...

  • Great Review.

  • I bow down to cgrhd

  • The technical limitations of this game turned me away. Good effort by atari but i could handle the distorted enemies when you blowed them up. I think I was spoiled by the Atariu 5200 version.

  • You should get namco museum for ps2 It has alot of namco games

  • the 2600 version of centipede is still my favorite even after all these years.

  • I played one version on my x-box

  • i have to disagree with most people's opinions of pac-man on the 2600. it definitely could have been better, and is far inferior to the arcade version, but it's still quite entertaining.

  • Yeah it sucked on a technical level but it was the closest you had to playing it at home.

  • You can't beat the first level though.

  • What are you talking about? I've beaten the first level.

  • hunh must be a bug in my cart, when I eat all the dots it just keeps letting me move around and dodge the ghosts until they kill me. Couldn't even program the game right.

  • thats alot like indys whip

  • I always kind of thought that the dig dug protagonist looked like the DOOM marine from the classic DOOM's. :)

  • @DXSnakeEater and now that you know our secret, i will have to kill you mr. SnakeEater

  • @DXSnakeEater BFG?......SCREW THAT I have a bike pump

  • Playing VCS requires some imagination, but it's still a wonderful system...and a milestone in gaming history.

  • The Atari VCS/ 2600 only had 2 sprites. That's why there's so much flickering, and why the dragon disappears when he breathes fire.

Atari didn't think ahead when they created their console. Only 2 sprites, and only 4K of space because they used the cheaper 6507 instead of the 6502. If they had used the 6502, they could have built 64k megagames like NES and SMS did.

  • Actually, two sprites, two missiles, one ball, and one backgrounds. But yeah, your right. Also, there were cartridges that went up to 32k (Jr. Pac-Man)

  • Atari built this system to be a pong console after all. It's amazing how well the developer made games for this system.

  • DUDE! You sound and talk JUST like Seth Rogan... lol

Anyways... This was probably my favorite Atari game. I grew up playing this. I still own it too.

I need to go on ebay and buy some Atari controllers... I still have my system, but I took apart all my controllers as a teen... lol

  • He looks like him too!

  • I Always love'd this game I usted to play it all the time on atari 5200 N' I also have a rom of this in my Xbox 360 n' I still love to play it

  • Haha shit i played this when i was 5/6 im 24 now. Nostalgia!!!!!!

  • I just bought this game along with the infamous 2600 Pac-Man from this kid at school for 10 bucks! (did I get ripped??)

  • Nah man u got a bargain!!!

  • Serious?

No did I really get the for a good price?

  • YEh why not? Its a clssic game you were lucky to get it for atari.....its an atari cartridge game right?

  • Yes, it was the official thing.

  • Yeh man awesome you got a cool deal.

  • I always hated the 2600 (it always seemed like half-assed attempts at arcade...except pitfall). Always more of a colecovision dude.

I think crappy pacman is worth a lot now online, you might have got a great deal. As far as gameplay goes, though, it's virtually useless.

  • I always thought it was kinda like Top Gun for the NES, where you couldn't give the game away cause its so bad and its so common that your not sure whether you should pay a buck for it or if they should give you a buck to take it away from them.

The 2600 is pretty cheap in some ways, when you consider that the rendition of a 32-bit processor had been made in 79 and how hardware not long after that surpassed about half a decade in power.

The system holds little merit other than to say its old.

  • And yeah, the Colecovision is a really cool system.

The controllers were far more sensitive and not so stiff and stubborn like the poor qualified 2600 controllers.

The cords were longer too; I didn't have to touch the television screen with my face, I could actually sit back in my couch and play it.

  • I like my colecovision. Unfortunately, the RF out doesnt really work anymore. I suppose I'll probably have to mod it to RCA out

  • You can't find a replacement on ebay anywhere?

  • I can, but I actually found out that the Colecovision is incompatible with the Turbografx RF adapter, which is what I was using. I plugged in my Atari 7800 adapter, and now it works pretty well. I didn't know that was possible

However, the colecovisions, despite being wonderful, suffer because they do not age well. There have been many problems with the power switch and plug..surprised mine still works.

  • The Turbografx RF adapter works on the 7800?!!

    Dang; news to me!!

Thanks a bunch for telling me so, I always enjoy to here new things like this.

Believe it or not I'm actually enjoying the current generation of gaming right now, which is very odd for me, as I am pretty much an all out retro guy.

Just which I could get a working 5200 controller.

  • Yeah, it seemed to work fine for me. I have no idea where my 7800 adapter is.

I'm so glad that I got a working adapter for my Colecovision. I had missed Donkey Kong Jr.

  • That's good.

  • i had this back in the day when i was a kid. now i try to download all the classic's on xbox live.

  • I barely remember this one, use to play Duck Hunt or The Legend Of Zelda for hrs when I was younger.

  • That's because this is Atari not Nintendo.

  • There was dig dug on atari, i used to own it!

  • yeah i always thought it was a bike pump too.

  • Yes, The Living Daylights was a great film! Also, it's one of the few movies to address the subject of the Russian/Afghanistan conflict (other than Rambo 3 and The Beast starring Jason Patrick and Manolo from Scarface). By the way, Live and Let Die had a more accurate Dig Dug death scene when Yaphat Koto died via a compressed air pellet.

  • Make no mistake, it's pretty good for a 2600. Sue me, I thought Pac-Man for the 2600 was a good game back in the day. I guess not.

  • The game dig dug to me was amazing when i first played it. I played it for hours. it just rocks

  • COOL

  • Doesn't that sound like the 7800, with more down-scale graphics?

  • uhh yea

  • Fuck i will love so much a PSN/XBLA HD Remake..

  • Do u want NEXTGEN graphics on a Atari?

  • not bad at all for 2600 technology.P

  • its got great graphics for atari 2600. if you dont like its graphics get a newer 1

  • what the diff of mr. and mrs. packman??? the only diff is mrs. pac has a bow and the fruit can't walk and looks little diffrent

  • On the Atari 2600? A hell of a big difference. Like day and night.

  • lol

  • COOL

  • Mark is so awesome, he can make a Bond refrence from Dig-Dug.

  • Wow, the music in this game is AWESOME! You know, for Atari music ;)

  • Is it just me, or did you messed up the little '8' at the credits? However, a good review, as always!

  • timeless classic!!!!!

thou i used to play just "digger" and not "dig dug" :D

  • well there isnt that many games you can play now with a flame thrower.

  • Ya know they remade the dude in Dig-Dug apperently the changed the so called "bike pump" into a Giant revolver.

  • I never was good at dig dug

  • I'd say technically Midway made Ms. Pacman, not Namco.

They just handed the rights over to them to avoid a pretty hefty lawsuit when they tried to release a sequel in the US without their permission.

  • I had Dig Dug for the Commodore 64. It never really appealed to me that much though.

  • I wanna keep telling the loyal fans of CGRHD this for most videos that Mark puts out.... "HARDEST-WORKING MAN ON YOUTUBE". You wanna give him a notable honor, then there it is!

  • agree! CGRHD is the best show on youtube!! Keep making videos mark!

but you should start rating the games from 1/5 or something, that would have been awesome

  • mark is a g, i will raise a 40 to commemorate the new game room!

  • sean connery was defenitely the best james bond.

my favorite bond movie was goldfinger. it had some of the best characters like oddjob and the one and only pussy galore.

  • Don't forget Dr. Goodhead from Moonraker. -CGRHD

  • great game, and yes... a very good port to the 2600.

    thanks for posting!

  • great video! Next you should Shinobi 3 Return of the Ninja Master from the genesis!

  • Yeah man I agree that the 2600 port is very nice. Awesome video.

  • Mark u

    ROCK!

  • I remember playing up to lvl. 34 on namco meuseum on the gba. good times.

  • Dig Dug: The Movie..... that's what Hollywood needs....

  • Sounds better than most of the swill they put out now. However, PIT FIGHTER the movie gets my vote for a must-see. -CGRHD

  • A Pac Man movie is in the works.

  • Perfecto :)

  • Awesome review. I used to love dig dug. Used to? I still do!

I'm hoping to see a Doom review if you haven't done one already and I magically missed it somehow.

  • I second that. There are a lot of classic obscure FPS's you could look at, like Strife, Cybermage, Ultima Underworld, Marathon... It would be cool to see CGR take a crack at them.

  • dig dug is awesome!

  • It's kinda similer to digger what we had on PC...btw very good game.5/5

  • Wow... This game translated over to the 2600 really, really well! It's quite a technical feat.

  • great review 5/5*
