Listen to her voice at 2:39 when she sings, "...please..." and gets 4 very different notes out of it. Pure Ella! Heard her sing this at the Venetian Room in the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco. The SF Chronicle columnist Herb Caen was still alive and she'd always acknowledge him. He'd write about her in his columns. I just know she's singing for him "over there!" I can't wait to join them! See you all "there!"
Nominated for an Academy Award (I think it lost to "Talk to the Animals").'67 was a great movie song year. Remember "Pieces of Dreams", anyone? Also the year of "The Look of Love" ("Casino Royale") and "The Eyes of Love" ("Banning"). THIS should have won: what a great swing tune!
Beautiful song for such a quirky movie. Dick Van Dyke played a butler in charge of a group of people who worked for an ecentric old woman. Van Dyke's character actually had a touch of larceny in it. He was very good at "appropriating" all they needed, food, wine, money whatever. Then here comes a woman who interviews for the job of private secretary for Van Dyke's boss. She is trouble from the getgo but it makes a nice story and Van Dyke's character is really great in the movie. Fritzwilly.
I had no idea until today that that entire concert was available on DVD. It's so cool to be seeing all these live performances I've listened to over and over for years.

This was from the 1969 film FITZWILLY. It should have been a standard. Ella nails it.

Masterful as always, by all - singer and band. Never heard this tune, I like it! Why isn't it more of a standard?

Ella was the best. There never was and there never will be a female vocalist to touch her.
