  • i live in orlando, have any suggestions for good lakes in the area?just moved here

  • awesome video hated the backlash.. got a baitcaster with anti backlash

    thank you steve

  • i cast with my right.. and reel with my left.

  • good video, good information!

  • The old rods had handles no bigger than a kitchen knife. They called them pistol grip. I envy you and your job! Good tips.

A backlash is actually when the spool is letting out line and spinning faster than the lure is pulling your line. That's what causes overruns/backlashes. That's why casting in the wind often results in backlashes... the lure is facing resistance, but the spool is spinning fast because you tried to whip it so hard to overcome the wind resistance.

  • I agree you have to thumb the spool. But why arent you saying anything about setting the brake or spool control or whatever you want to call it? Makes all the difference for a beginner and if your casting into the wind.

  • @SuperOlds88 True I could have given tips on reel setup but plan on doing that on a different video. I felt it would be best for this tip to help anglers over come backlashing by altering how they grip the reel rather than focusing on changing the reel settings. Just an fyi, my reels are all set on a very loose setting close to freespool. With this type of setup thumb control is crucial. thanks for the comments.
