  • Hey, not sure if you're still keeping up with comments here, but I wanted to tell you that your video was inspiring to me - I also grew up in America and am not perfect at speaking Lao, but I can do it fine with my family. I'm hoping to teach my soon-to-be kid how to speak Lao, too, since their dad is American and I'd like to keep some of my culture in our soon-to-be family. :)

  • @duckiesonquack Congrats to you and your husband! The challenges of raising a child is going to be a handful but I'm sure you're well prepared. As you and I know growing up in America and trying to find/keep our identity is very challenging with limited resources to our culture. But, you've managed to make it this far and you still have a strong desire for our culture. I am proud of you and I'm sure many people share my feelings as well. Regards.

  • I like you, youj are handsome Nor : )

  • wow! you speak way better Laotian than I do.

  • True. I'm glad my siblings and I do knw Lao even if it's broken. My cousins were never taught and they wish they were. I'm also glad I still knw how to make Lao dishes-not many but alot of my favorites :) keep doing what ur doing video wise. I enjoy watching how life is lived back home since never been back nor do I remember Laos at all since I came when I was 2. Thx for sharing with us!

  • Wow u speak Lao very well! I'm the same age as u and my Lao is very Americanize-lol. I speak lao-English splur together. But then i dont have lao friends to speak and practice with :( Don't think u'll have any problems communicating back home. Good luck in Laos!

  • @melisacollins77 Thank You Melisa. I grew up in the Bible belt of Oklahoma where I had no Lao friends to speak with either. Don't be discouraged, splurred Lao and/or Lao mixed with English is still something to be proud of. I'm trying to encourage my siblings to do the same and not be shy with their very broken Lao.

  • Are you still in Meung Lao??You know some kids of Lao descent who was raised in another country don't know how to speak that country's language or Lao that well.

  • i don't know how to write or read in Lao either.

  • I want to work in Lao or Thailand, I don't speak Lao that well too.My parents immigrated to America when I was 2, I would love to work in Lao or Thailand, I have relatives in Thailand, my uncle's ex. wife has kids in Thailand.Singapore is also my destination mark.Siharat what made you decide you wanted to go back to Lao even though you probably don't remember it.Only thing is I'm afraid to go there, they might frame you or something.

  • @Aviatortothesea Thanks for commenting. My decision to move back to Laos is a lengthy reason but in short, is because I fell in love with the country and people on my first visit. It made me realize that no matter how much I fit in the US my comfort level has never been the same as when I am in Laos. I think many people share the fears you have about the country but from my experience if we don't be loud and cause problems no one has any interest to cause you problems.

  • good idea and prop for you. the only problem with laos is that they can accuse you for anything for doing nothing.

  • I'm proud of you der.

  • Good idea. I have a warm feeling just watching your video. Greatly appreciate your hard work.

  • Laos and lao ppl are kind and love peace if any of laos neighbour wanted to come to laos to start a better life and respect our culture we are welcome them. we all can benefit from each other. make laos better!

  • Sabaidee Phouthone.....You say you're going to teach IT. Can you tell us(yet?) about IT in Laos? I was born in Laos and in IT too. I have not going back yet since 1975. Wonder what's going in Laos. I did watch interesting videos from Boudaine and Matt Lauer about Laos.

  • From what I have gathered. Our country is growing and as companies grow the need for IT is growing rapidly. I spoke to the IT manager where I will be working, he is very intelligent and capable. So intellectually where we are capable but as you are aware money makes things happen.

  • Thank for reply. You are brave person. Hope you enjoy yourself there. Hummm...How do you get paid? Is it enough to live as an expat? Or you just want to serve the people. Do you teach IT at universtiy or at private institution? I had studied at Lycee de Vientiane. Please keep us in touch. I miss khao lam xin cai & tom xum. Take care.

  • sbd Phouthone,

very interesting what you're going to do next month.

my thought and heart go with you.

    take good care.

I'll be here all the times.
