Actually, Sonic seems to be mimicking DBZ in some forms. SEGA has actually hinted that Silver's history mirrors that of Trunks so if that's true, Silver's lineage most likely follows this equation:

Shadow = Vegeta

Amy = Bulma

Skip a few generations and then you get Silver = Trunks ^_^
