Gauguin was truly a weird guy. He left his family and a good job in France to paint in Tahiti in search of something "raw" and "primitive." He was effeminate so he hung out with women all day. He introduced venereal diseases there and didn't bother learning the language. Everyone cursed him under their breath.
Just got an Amazing book of his life and works today - looks fascinating. Love all the work he did in Tahiti and the obvious influence the Natives and Culture had on him - Some Beautiful Images.
)O( I liked that. if he only knew that to find "The Primitive Essence" of Man, all he had to do was travel throughtime to the 20th Century! What more savage world than that ever existed!!
Glad you could find the music and your students like it. What you need to do is go to keepvid dot com and download any videos you want to copy to a cd. Then find a free flv converter that converts to mpeg. I use a riva flv converter which I found free on the net.
:D Hee hee! I haunted the world music section of the Dayton Metro Library. I have a sincere appreciation for Gauguin's choice of location. I wanted this one to feel spiritual, as I believe paradise will definitely have palm trees!
I found mine at the library. It is by the Tahitian Choir and the title is, "The Tahitian Choir Volume II: Rapa Iti" it was relaesed in 2005 on Shanachie. I hope this helps.
Thank you! Thw Gauguin music was hard for me to find...but I wanted Tahitians singing along with paintings of Tahitians...it was worth the search I think.
