Johnny Cash wrote "Walk the Line". The unique chord progression for the song was inspired by an accidental backwards playback on Cash's tape recorder while he was in the Air Force. Later, he wrote the lyrics in a backstage dressing room in Gladewater, Texas in 1955,
I hope record execs read some of the comments here regarding today's terrible, commercial music that's geared to kids who don't know any better. It's about time someone stepped up to the plate and gave us good, honest music.
I wish I was born alot earlier so that I could live through the 50s, 60s, and 70s. I love music and music seemed alot more fun these days. Not as much about making hits and earning millions of dollars as it is today mostly. At many parts of my life I'm glad that I'm young now but when it comes to music I would rather have been young around the 60s and 70s
Same as you guys. Music from my generation (the current one, I was born in '94) sucks arse. It's all manufactured. If I could live in any other place/time it'd be 1950s America.
I was born in '92, and I think the same thing. My friend had a go at me when I told her I was born too late. She was going on about how women weren't allowed to vote, and they weren't allowed to work. She was so wrong. Kate Sheppard got women the vote in like, 1893. And women had jobs and did what they wanted!!
It is certain, that she wrote "Ring of Fire" (together with Merle Kilgore). She also wrote "Nobody Cared", which John had recorded on the live album "At Osterâker Prison", made in a swedish penententiary on October 3rd, 1973.
June Carter and Merle Kilgore wrote Ring of Fire initially for Anita Carter who recorded it first. Johnny had a dream of the song accompanied by French Horns. He asked Anita if he could record it when it stopped getting air time for her.
Vivian did not write the song, Johnny did. Songs have been written for people many times and recorded by other artists; it just increases the popularity of the song.
Amen, there was no disrespect intended, I guarantee that. A song is just that...a song. Songs are recorded and sang by all sorts of individuals. If something is meant to be personal it isn't published and commercialized for the world to have. It is kept in a private, personal place. I'm sure that it was originally written for Vivian who was a fine lady but there was NO disrespect intended by the Carters singing it
Some confusion here; Walk The Line was written by Johnny Cash. Ring of Fire was written by June Carter and Merle Kilgore, first recorded by Anita Carter and then later by Johnny Cash with the horns added.
@TeXaSsNoBunnY so it goes with folk and country songs. everyone sings them, changes them just a little differently, spreads the song around a little more.
You can actually see an actress playing Anita Carter next to the stage, when Reese does Jukebox Blues (next to her Mother Maybelle). It's just a short clip. I missed a song with Reese (as June) in the Carter ensemble...
I think you can see Anita at the dinner in Johnny's new house as well. June is sitting beside her mum and Anita beside their dad on the other side of the table. Correct me if I'm wrong... But yes, it's a pity they didn't do a Carter sisters song :(
Lovely.TY Carters01 for posting.

June was the Lucille Ball of country music. A natural performer, and a great songwriter. She is sorely missed.

Amazing harmony........how often do you hear songs like this in 2011?
It's all long gone now. Anita had an amazing set of pipes, and a healthy set of 'lungs' as well.......
