I don't think I have ever come across an RPG with a better storyline than this. I mean cmon the monster hibernated in the planet for like 6 million years. Anyone know another one with an epic storyline? Im talking well thought out 10/10 storylines with epic plot twists and such.
@DarkD11 Xenogears is a pretty good contender with *spoiler* Deus being the recombinated genetics of all mankind, harvesting them, after creating an Eve that would mother a race that would one day rebuild Deus with it's technology, only to be defeated by reincarnated souls that were superfluous genetic errors, assisted by remnants of the previous civilization's technology that originally created Deus to power & defend the space ark of humanity and preserve human DNA.
@DarkD11 plus Xenogears has a few subtle homages to Chrono Trigger, like the three sages, the zeal themes, some of the music etc... it's drawback is being very wordy, long and convoluted where chrono trigger is short, entertaining and perfect
Mega Man X and Vile, Cecil, Golbez, Edge, and Yang from Final Fantasy IV The After Years, Vegeta from Dragonball Z, and Crono and Magus from Chrono Trigger are the most badass characters ever.
Damn, I suppose in some ways using one character would actually make things easier in some cases. Not having to worry about reviving hurt teammates. Although, you do need to use someone like Magus for this. Awesome video!

@Melylareputamadre meh. In my experience they specialize more in making insufferable unsympathetic j-pop icons than actual games. But I'm sure they managed one or two playable titles. Problem is, when was the last time (or first for that matter) square enix put out a masterpiece like this? i'd like to try beating the game, or at least the end latter part of the game, using only one or two of my favourite characters, like frog and magus, or magus and meryl, or just frog, or just magus. that'd keep me entertained for a little while. imagine beating ff6 with just sabin and celes, oh, i suppose you'd need at least 3 characters for the final part.
it would be very challenging, unless your characters were leveled up to the max.
@samboyaus The characters for this game were drawn by the same artist as Dragonball cartoons - and yes, Lavos and Cell do resemble eachother. Japan's video game and anime industry haven't made anything really new or original for the past 20 years. The did make some great games, though, back in the SNES days.
@SindarinElealar "Best possible equipment" is somewhat subjective...it's been a long time since I made this video, but the setup I used gave 4 or 5 points better defense than Haste Helm + Nova Armor, and still gave immunity to status attacks. I wish I had used the PrismSpecs though instead of the GoldStud - there's just not much point to saving MP in a fight like this.
@jtrevor99: The defense is higher, but the key is Haste Helm; it effectively doubles your turns translating into double damage. Considering defense only ever matters against physical attacks of which only Grand Stone is a real issue and the 5 points of Def has a negligible impact, doubling your damage is a pretty damn good trade-off.
This is, curiously, also the reason male characters are stronger than females in CT; Nova Armor is the only good armor with status protection freeing up the Helm.
@SindarinElealar You got me curious so I looked back at the file I'd used. I was using Gloom Cape + Gloom Helm, which gives 9 points better defense than your setup (126 vs. 117). Still, I agree that Haste Helm would have been a better choice here--frankly I'm not in the habit of using it as I usually have Marle in the party!
That said, I've heard that Lavos' Slow attack (final form) can nullify a Haste Helm. I need to check that out sometime...
@jtrevor99 Heh, I see. Yeah, it took me a long while to appreciate the Haste Helm; same reason (like 15 playthroughs). Tho even with Marle, having it from the start of the fight helps. Indeed, I find Marle a good candidate for Haste Helm so you save a turn not casting it on her; though she'll have to use Amulet for status prot.
As for Lavos's slow, I don't remember offhand any slow attack from his final form other than Spell. But I think, as long as he doesn't use Protective Seal, you're fine.
@evand3ck He's at level ** (99) in this video, and also maxed out with as many Power/Speed/Magic tabs as possible. In other words, this is the strongest Magus can get :)
Glenn from Chrono Cross is NOT Glenn/Frog from Chrono Trigger.If you dont know the story don't post misleading shit. They're completely different people. Now, In Chrono TRIGGER, there was a famous knight named Cyrus who had a pupil/squire named Glenn. When Cyrus and his squire Glenn confronted Magus, Magus kills Cyrus and turned Glenn (whos originally a human) into a frog, hence he now goes by the name "Frog." NOW, Glenn from CC is a knight of the Acacia Dragoons who's older brother is Dario.
@RockRebel1998 Lol. ***SPOILER ALERT*** Okay here's the dillio, Magus is actually Janus. He's pissed off because Lavos took his sister away so he swears to kill Lavos. Lavos is the one that actually kills Chrono. You meet up with Magus later and he's all hating on Chrono which the others find disrespectful, so you can opt to kill him or have him join your party. If you do kill him though, during certain endings Frog turns into Glenn from Chrono Cross.

Prism Helm is better than a Vigil Helm. But he's probably using Nova Armor for the protects status, that way he can use a helmet for its mod (Safe Helm, Haste Helm, etc)

@danikableful Actually, Final Fantasy X reminded me a lot of Chrono Trigger: the main element of the plot is a team of young heroes, led by a spiky-haired swordsman embark on a journey to defeat a well-mannered, blue-haired sorcerer who wears a purple cloak and is trying to summon a massive ancient monster that can only be defeated by entering inside it and destroying its true form(s). Also, they get an airplane near the end of the game to do some sidequests.
Sure, I leave out the whole "Tidus comes from another world, and the monster is his dad.. sort of" thing, but these are still strikingly similar elements that show that there clearly was inspiration from CT in FFX.
But then again, I didn't play all of the square/square-enix games, maybe these elements are common to more of them.
im not gonna lie tho i destroyed lavos so easy at the end, i kept ayla at 1 hp and kept doing dino tail which did over 5000 on all enemies except the ones with extra physical defense of course but once that was gone it was a wrap

@SindarinElealar You got me curious so I looked back at the file I'd used. I was using Gloom Cape + Gloom Helm, which gives 9 points better defense than your setup (126 vs. 117). Still, I agree that Haste Helm would have been a better choice here--frankly I'm not in the habit of using it as I usually have Marle in the party!
That said, I've heard that Lavos' Slow attack (final form) can nullify a Haste Helm. I need to check that out sometime...

@jtrevor99 Heh, I see. Yeah, it took me a long while to appreciate the Haste Helm; same reason (like 15 playthroughs). Tho even with Marle, having it from the start of the fight helps. Indeed, I find Marle a good candidate for Haste Helm so you save a turn not casting it on her; though she'll have to use Amulet for status prot.
As for Lavos's slow, I don't remember offhand any slow attack from his final form other than Spell. But I think, as long as he doesn't use Protective Seal, you're fine.

@evand3ck He's at level ** (99) in this video, and also maxed out with as many Power/Speed/Magic tabs as possible. In other words, this is the strongest Magus can get :)

Glenn from Chrono Cross is NOT Glenn/Frog from Chrono Trigger.If you dont know the story don't post misleading shit. They're completely different people. Now, In Chrono TRIGGER, there was a famous knight named Cyrus who had a pupil/squire named Glenn. When Cyrus and his squire Glenn confronted Magus, Magus kills Cyrus and turned Glenn (whos originally a human) into a frog, hence he now goes by the name "Frog." NOW, Glenn from CC is a knight of the Acacia Dragoons who's older brother is Dario.

@RockRebel1998 Lol. ***SPOILER ALERT*** Okay here's the dillio, Magus is actually Janus. He's pissed off because Lavos took his sister away so he swears to kill Lavos. Lavos is the one that actually kills Chrono. You meet up with Magus later and he's all hating on Chrono which the others find disrespectful, so you can opt to kill him or have him join your party. If you do kill him though, during certain endings Frog turns into Glenn from Chrono Cross.

i soloed lavos with chrono, just physical attacks all speed tabs and power tabs + haste. Dealing 5000 - 6000 on normal hits. Quick and easy

Prism Helm is better than a Vigil Helm. But he's probably using Nova Armor for the protects status, that way he can use a helmet for its mod (Safe Helm, Haste Helm, etc)

@danikableful Actually, Final Fantasy X reminded me a lot of Chrono Trigger: the main element of the plot is a team of young heroes, led by a spiky-haired swordsman embark on a journey to defeat a well-mannered, blue-haired sorcerer who wears a purple cloak and is trying to summon a massive ancient monster that can only be defeated by entering inside it and destroying its true form(s). Also, they get an airplane near the end of the game to do some sidequests.

Sure, I leave out the whole "Tidus comes from another world, and the monster is his dad.. sort of" thing, but these are still strikingly similar elements that show that there clearly was inspiration from CT in FFX.
But then again, I didn't play all of the square/square-enix games, maybe these elements are common to more of them.

im not gonna lie tho i destroyed lavos so easy at the end, i kept ayla at 1 hp and kept doing dino tail which did over 5000 on all enemies except the ones with extra physical defense of course but once that was gone it was a wrap
