  • no car would ever be like a montego nice my uncle had one nice and quite engine sweet as a swiss watch.

  • If anyone has any new ideas re. what the tune is, PLEASE let me know!

  • its maggie bell but i dont know what the song is called

  • isnt it Maggie Smith singing?

  • I always liked the Montego with its unique styling. Those scallops give it a distinctive look. We didn't see many of them here in Denmark, though. Only the MG versions were imported. It is such a shame that the British motor industry is no more - bad management mixed with politics and workers who spent more time on strike than at the assembly line.

  • Hi cannot agree with you on the styling each to their own however the estate version was quite pleasing on the eye.

Rust was a big problem though cavaliers and sierras were not imune either, the thing that really broke this car was not it's odd looks but the poor overall quality and drivability of the early cars, post 89 cars with the honda box were much better to drive and much better equipped and built but by this time it was up against some really good vehicles such as the passat & 405 etc

  • Let the Germans do it.

  • Ah the good old days, when cars were still made in Birmingham. When UK had a fully functioning car industry, then the owners got greedy and didn't invest. Isn't that the story of almost everything British? Just look at the underground and the catchup work they are having to do.

  • @dtfageet Spot on lad. And we wonder why our trade deficit is running into Billions!

  • Much maligned rep mobile, much better to drive than a sierra or cavalier especially the 2.0ltr versions, also very roomy inside and comfortable, good mpg especially the 2.0td and a good standard of kit especially on the later versions.

However it looks like it was styled by Stevie Wonder and as other have said very questionable build quality, we had door bottoms rotten out after only 3 yrs!

  • @volkswin I can't understand why people think it is ugly, it is a handsome, well proportioned saloon that still looked good in '94 when they stopped making them. The build quality was fine, I owned 3 and they never broke down and all the electrics and trim was still intact, RUST, however was the killer, by the time they reached 5-7 years they were effectively scrap, which I why I bought a few dead cheap back in the day!!

  • these had remarkably good handling, were comfy and reliable, just let down by shoddy build and a propensity to rust around its extremities. make mine a 2.0 turbo diesel

  • now i remember why i never bought one......

  • the Montego looks basically like a saloon version of an Austin Maestro and the Maestro looks like an 80's version of the Austin Allegro!

Only the MG variants are worth bothering about!

  • Montego looks like a saloon maestro because it is. it's the same car with a boot on the back. its even possible to graft a montego front end (lights, bonnet, wings, bumper)onto a maestro

  • SHITE

  • Interesting advert. What the song called?

  • " love at first sight " ?.....lmao !!

  • not the best car in the worls but didnt deserve the bad rep they ended up with, my father in law had 2 as company cars and liked them both.

  • It was a good car, full stop.

  • comfy motor well styled modern design, dubious build quality

  • Who sung this and what's it called?

  • Is it Maggie Bell????

  • I can't find it either, thought it might have been Elkie Brooks but it does sound like Maggie Bell.

  • HA HA HA HA HA HA
