Go to an emergency room. There are wall to wall immigrants (legal status unknown). They have no healthcare, but know the ER has to treat them. The bill will NEVER be paid. Costs are raised to cover this, ergo the skyrocketing cost of healthcare. The more people without coverage, the higher the costs go. Any plan they PAY for, be it public or private, is an improvement to the current situation.

Not to mention the average life span for an american is 78.3 while other life spans range from 80-82 in other countries. The Health Care bill does say that Illegals will not get tax credits, but those credits wouldn't exist unless they had already participated in the program. Furthermore, there are NO provisions to verify citizenship, and no penalties involved. Every suggestion to include these have been shot down.

Immigrants contribute more to the economy than they take out of it. Do some research on demography or immigration sociology. Oh, and Reagan did amnesty in the 80s. Big businesses are generally the ones who promote illegal immigration because they benefit from it... and big business generally support republicans more than democrats.

@Harrison- The preamble of the US Constitution states "promot(ing) the general Welfare" as a key reason to form the United States of America.
Article 1, Section 8 specifically enumerates Congress' power to "To lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defence and general welfare of the United States."
Congress draws the power for Medicare, Medicaid, current health reform efforts, as well as income tax and standing armies from this section.
Jim "... for the common defence and general welfare of the United States" does not mean the moajority in power get to fund (tax) any pet project they want.
Read further into section 8... as it goes on to describe the exact role of our federal governement. i.e.. securing copyrights, Rule of Naturalization, provide for a Navy, postal service, etc,...

As a Libertarian, I do not want to see reform include buying insurance across state lines. That would destroy all rights of the states to manage the type of health care in their state. Federal reform sets a federal baseline, but leaves the implementation to the states. I like that.
Article 1, Section 8 continues after describing specific powers with:
"And to make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof."
We shouldn't even be talking about this stuff on a national level. This is a state issue. Look at the great state of Mass. They have an inclusive health care system. If that's what you want, move there!

Actually, the day after Obama said that illegals wont be included in this bill, the White House acknowledged that in HR 3200, it says that verifications of citizenship are not required for insurance. They said they would be in favor of verification of citizenship. So who was really the liar here? Or maybe it was just an honest mistake by the President.

Go to an emergency room. There are wall to wall immigrants (legal status unknown). They have no healthcare, but know the ER has to treat them. The bill will NEVER be paid. Costs are raised to cover this, ergo the skyrocketing cost of healthcare. The more people without coverage, the higher the costs go. Any plan they PAY for, be it public or private, is an improvement to the current situation.

The Health Care bill does say that Illegals will not get tax credits, but those credits wouldn't exist unless they had already participated in the program. Furthermore, there are NO provisions to verify citizenship, and no penalties involved. Every suggestion to include these have been shot down.

Big businesses are generally the ones who promote illegal immigration because they benefit from it... and big business generally support republicans more than democrats.

Undocumented immigrants pay sales tax, property tax, gas tax, and frequently pay into social security w/o any hopes of getting money back when they retire (by giving fake SS #'s to employers).

I feel sad for America. This Country was going down the drain, thanks to God, Obama came for a purpose, to restore America, to reclaim the american dream. Greenspan- set interest rates at 1% so people could borrow money to buy houses... it crashed...
Bernanke- Obama appointed him to keep interest rates at 0% to reinflate the bubble so more people could borrow and spend.
With all the money they are printing they need to raise %rates... this is going to prolong the recession and cause inflation.

You need to go to any ER or health clinic in any city in the U.S. and you will see that the illegals are there getting free medical treatment, paid for by by the U.S. sentences. Joe Wilson isn't lying, the person he said it to is.

Joe Wilson did what my congressman should have done. Hospitals, schools, and states should call the U.S. Border control every time they have contact with illegals. The bill may not say anything about illegals, but they do abuse our system. They treat illegals for free in the ER for a common cold.

Congressman Joe Wilson spoke out due to his passion of the issue. He had been working on this issue and knew that what the president was saying was not enforceable, therefore it was a lie. He shouldn't have spoke out, however he did apologize to the President. The NY Times actually agreed with Joe in the editorial front page last Friday. Crazy huh??!!

I wish my congressman had stood up and said the same thing Joe did. I called my dem rep in April and he said he was against illegal immigration, then 2 weeks later he used his power to stop the deportation of an illegal mexican. illegals go to the the ER for common colds.

Of course they (Dems) thought of it, that's why the illegals per se are skirted. Actually they are getting free medical now. See the trail of bankrupt hospital along the Mexican border states. A Federal Judge ruled that hospitals have to take care of ALL people that come into hospital through emergency ward. Thousands of babies come in all expenses paid to the illegals. Illegals have a better deal than working 'legals' in this country today. That is just the way it is.

An alien is someone who has entered this country without proper authorization, for purposes of fraud, which is a crime.

As a British / Canadian citizen, I think you guys need to bring more yelling at the president when congress is in session. Heckling is a venerable tradition in parliamentary democracy, and besides, if a leader cannot maintain an argument against a constant line of abuse than honestly what good is he?
The problem IMO, is that you Americans elect someone to a position w/ the reverence of a monarch.
The very shape of congress is a problem, the leader should be down in the dirt of the debate pit.

while I agree with you, I think a large part of the issue (at least for myself) isn't that someone called the president a liar (though sadly for some it is) but rather that we spent the last couple decades being told increasingly boldfaced lies with ever fewer people (even in the media) call them on it, & the one time someone comes out -in congress- & flat-out calls someone a liar...the accuser is lying *facepalm*
I'm left feeling that the problem goes much deeper than just 'reverence'...*sigh*

Yeah, my comment was a highly general one w/ regards to the American political system and the role of the president. Certainly not a defense of Joe Wilson or the Republican party on their own grounds.
There is this sort of casual transfusion and bastardization in the Republican base of the arguments from principally-minded, but long marginalized, conservatives who did criticize Bush for centralizing power. With absolutely no self-reflection to the absurd irony of it all. Scary stuff indeed.

They just provided fact and you touted talking points without giving sources. And who cares what's in Emanual's book, we are talking about the Health Care bill and illegal immigrants. @Harrison- The preamble of the US Constitution states "promot(ing) the general Welfare" as a key reason to form the United States of America.
Article 1, Section 8 specifically enumerates Congress' power to "To lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defence and general welfare of the United States."
Congress draws the power for Medicare, Medicaid, current health reform efforts, as well as income tax and standing armies from this section.

Read further into section 8... as it goes on to describe the exact role of our federal governement. i.e.. securing copyrights, Rule of Naturalization, provide for a Navy, postal service, etc,...

Jim, the 10th amendment to the Constitution states ~ "The Powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people" ~ Again, it comes down to states rights.

@Harrison, Yep, we are a representative Republic. I don't think you'll find any mention of a mob rule democracy in my comments.
Programs like Medicaid - while federally funded - are administered by the states.
As a Libertarian, I do not want to see reform include buying insurance across state lines. That would destroy all rights of the states to manage the type of health care in their state. Federal reform sets a federal baseline, but leaves the implementation to the states. I like that.

Actually, the day after Obama said that illegals wont be included in this bill, the White House acknowledged that in HR 3200, it says that verifications of citizenship are not required for insurance. They said they would be in favor of verification of citizenship. So who was really the liar here? Or maybe it was just an honest mistake by the President.
