  • How to survive the cold in Scandinavia:

    1. Never eat salt, sugar, caffiene, or alcohol in cold weather. It makes you lose water and heat.

    2. Eat more protien and fat. You need it to survive the cold.

    3. Insulated clothing is what stands between you and hypothermia.

    4. Have lots of thick socks and keep them dry. Never let your feet get wet.

I camped out in the snow overnight without a tent or a fire and ended up sleeping comfortably. It's all about what you wear and what you eat.

  • using a lighter... ffs do it the man way

  • If the wind blows the smoke into your shelter, won't that be kind of lousy? I notice people never discuss wind direction when making a fire with a shelter that reflects heat back to the occupant. That same shelter will keep in smoke I would think. Opinions? Of course in a survival situation all that matters is that you don't freeze to death of course. Still, its pretty amazing how some tree coverings can hold in all that heat from the fire!

  • I dont know why norway is one of the most hard place in the world. When survival experts travel to norway they almost die trying to survive, but when a 15 year norwegian boy walks in the forest to grill som hotdogs not have any probles to be there. An d they got the same equipment:) hahaha

  • i would suggest that you put up a reflector stone as well, to direct the heat into your shelter, other then that good info.

  • I've spent months at a time in the snow in the wilderness, but i used tents, if the wind blows you're screwed....it would blow the fire out and you'd lose insulation....you could maybe survive but it would suck

  • hey isn't that bear grylls and surviver man in the lot next over.

  • I would gonna freeze to death in that horrible place in just a few hours.

I hate that kind of place really.

  • That's a great video, thanks for the tip on building a fire that will last through the night

  • 7 people did not survive in snowy conditions

  • 0:40- 0:41 are you wearing Goretex woodland camo ecws Jacket ?

  • Building your shelter with the peak a little lower will make it more thermally efficient for nights without a bivy, sleeping bag and mat.

  • good vid, but the music sucks.

  • @567sniper can't please all the people all the time etc...

  • @undercurrentspaulo

You can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time -- Abraham Lincoln

  • @567sniper You suck, mr.Sniper... lol.. xD

  • @567sniper if u dont have anything nice to say just dont say it no one care about your opinion

  • bush craft is trimming a beaver into a pleasant shape

  • great vid thx

  • That was actualy a real nice shelter, and fire!

  • Can I use the same technique in the rainy forest of Oregon? I think I might get wet.

  • Good video. Excellent presentation. You would make a great regular host if Discovery channel is hiring. You've got 'it'. Have a good one.

  • @bizzarrogeorge I agree. Very good video and this guy would be good on television. A natural and the facts were presented simply and plainly. Thumbs up from me.

  • @bizzarrogeorge thanks. We are working on making our own movie now. Check out azbushcraft dot c o m

  • yeah i cheated a little bit, i had all this other stuff i slept great, without it id just have to keep the fire going, would have been easy to survive the night BULLSHIT! i would love to see you just do that.

  • cold...brrr..wouldnt go there

  • Here in Florida .. I can get away with a poncho and some pine needles . Only problem here is water water everywhere .. And it's salty! I guess every area has its pros and cons

  • Nice cheat I thought you might freeze.

  • i have had 2 meters snow outside my door and has a mountain right next to my house. i know the whole area as my pocket, it can get as cold as -30 celcius here.

  • I'm Norwegian. And that is NOT high snow.

  • im love outdoors and survival. as a stroke survival i still get out there just cant travel as far nor fast as b4 but im still doping it.....usually just me and my dog.......i feel safe with her. i carry dryer lint and old mans beard......flint/steel drink from creeks sleep in lean to cuddle to my dog. thx 4 the vid really enjoyed it....karen

  • i dont mean to be rood, but why the green camo when you are in the snow. ?

  • great video. i think im gonna subscribe.

  • Did you realy sleep in the shekter or did you do a bear grylls and go back to your house?

  • here in norway we call that a ''on your way to school shelter''

  • why did you use the tarp in the first place?

  • THE ZONE!!!

  • this video is brilliant.

  • instand subscribe

  • Subscribed.

  • i love Norway i wanna move there some day there gov care about there ppl.

  • Good video.. Ignore the hate as you did just fine

  • Real cold extreme is in Siberia!

  • It's a real bummer that I even need to include a chapter on surviving nuclear fallout. If you don't know what to do with your radiation detection skills, no long term storage food will be of use?!? My Fukushima radiation detection, and Public Safety related insights are important at this time. My channel name is: mythhealer Thank you for visiting, and great video info!

  • why dont anyone go to sweden and do one of these videos? its always norway norway norway :) even nato trains in norway. COME TO SWEDEN we need the tourists. XD but if he wouldnt have had the lighter, what would he have done then?

  • @daTorsPelaRen use a fire steel....or a flint and steel........or a bow drill....

  • @Wyndstarthedruid maybe :) much cooler if he´d used one of those instead

  • If you feel cold remember it is not the cold coming in, but it is the heat going out. Stop the wind, block the heat leaking, and insulate to keep the warm in. Cover your head. Sleep on a shelf elevated above the cold air.

  • This was a cool variation of the A frame shelter.

  • i think ray mears has it down to a science. this guy looks like he struggles through all his videos

  • Vynikající návod, je to borec.

  • @nephildevil AGAIN< Where's your survival video???

  • its not like u have to be a genius to make ur own snow shoes, cmon is this a bushcraft channel or what? Dont be queer and show us some knife skills!

  • @nephildevil Another ignorant sofa commentator who never built anything in his life! Get the crumbs of Ruffle's outta ur ass and do something before you criticize someone who does! Where's YOUR Vid dude?

  • i really love your videos, watched nearly all of them now, ad this was my favourite, you should do a longer 20 minute one where you built something more permenant,

  • that ain't mutch snow up here in norway. great vid bro:D

  • meh

  • The saw he used was a great tool to carry into the woods. It is lighter than a hatchet and uses less energy to cut logs. Excellent choice, learn from that. With that and a sturdy knife one can make just about anything one needs in the woods. Shelter, spear, even a crude bow and arrow.

That was a great example of a shelter. Quick, simple, and easy to duplicate. Thank you for that, it might one day save a fellows life.

  • what's the song used in the intro?

  • @jdcp76 music details are on azbushcraft dot c o m

  • Gettin' in to the zone he he ... I have different saying but same meaning... :)

  • that is well done.

  • i live in norway =3 Awesome country =D

  • hey,, does anybody know the name of the song at the very beginning???

  • nice shelter you made and thanks for sharing i got new tips . watch my holyback manisland video

  • Yeah, totally agree! When its cold outside, the gas in the lighter gets heavy and hard to egnite.

  • lol i would have preferd a set of matches instead of a lighter

  • Wonderful :)

  • remember to take bogroll for a dump in the woods lol

  • HAHA i got 35 inches right now...and walking with sneakers to school :P

  • Bushcraft becomes more of a task in winter and when snows.

But personally i like it because it gives me more of a challange and test's my skill's truly

  • cool 1 from romania

  • Remember, always keep a Bic lighter with you in the woods!

  • i always feel bad when i see ppl useing them cus i never have one on me XD

  • is 12-20 inches of snow deep???!!!

  • @meo600 hes british, for them 5 inches is panic deep.....

  • LOL .. I live in London - A single snow flake & the public transport system use it as an excuse to have a duvet day!

  • He is British...

    Snow is not common there.

Even just a little causes havoc as seen in recent news.

My old town... we got like 20 feet in one winter.

So its a matter of perspective.

  • He used a lighter. What's up with that. Of course you're gonna survive with an easily made fire and a sleeping bag. I'll give him points for the shelter, but this was to easy.

  • song?

  • cool shelter though. and song

  • sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet. i agreee with raynkar

  • right on...go home nay sayers! atleast he REALLY camped out ...unlike alot of the EXPERTS on here....

  • Bad advice really, Boughs wrong, Why not use standing tree as part of shelter, what about small fire with reflector instead of giant fire (has he got a chainsaw)

  • Yeah, if you like winterstorms and lots of snow then its great =)

great vids again...keep it up...and speak to me if you come to setesdalen ! !

  • PART TWO

The boughs need to be placed from the bottom up, and overlapped as they are placed, just as roof tiles are laid. The way the boughs were placed in the vid would cause any melted snow (or rain in wet climates) to run into the shelter, and soak you or your equipment. This method shown will also let heat from the fire up and out through the roof more easily.

I have to say that all of Andrews other vids I have seen are very good, and are all clear and well presented.

  • @raynkar he filmed this on his own on his others he has a camera man, that might explain about being well presented

  • Hi TheV0iceOfReas0n

Actually the way up you place the boughs is VERY important (not having a go here, but just letting you know, as it could even safe your life in a real survival situation!)

Boughs should be placed so that the part where the branch exits the bough is at the top, with the widest part of the foliage at the bottom (in the vid, they are the other way up), This way, if the snow melts (with heat from your fire) or if it rains, the water will run off. PART TWO NEXT

  • Okey, I've loved this chanel for a long time now and this is the worst vid ever.. I TOTALY agree with Raynkar! And to add upp a little.. You can see through the shelter.. if ther's a wind blowing then the shelter is kind a useless... sorry Andrew, but that's the fact...

  • As you had a sleeping bag, roll mat, bivvy bag, tarp, folding saw, lighter, rucksack, warm hat, gaitors, string/binding. Do you really think that you did not have the necessary equipment!

Most are your videos are top notch, but this one is is not.

PS. I were being picky, I would point out that you put the spruce bails on your shelter the wrong way up!

  • haha i agree

  • From Norway myself...would call that a normal camping trip...if you should call it extreme, come up to the mountains in late januar =) and bring your showel.

Thanks anyway for a nice video as usual =)

  • and using fresh(GREEN) spruce or fir, as bedding

it will crackle if your fire gets out of hand ,when your in a nap/half sleep,,,this wood is extremely flammable,so this is survival
