@63demonicmonster63 the lvl they create is a fake-3d blank where blue balls can be set according to a logic script so, no matter what u do, it will create a level for you in no time, just using the script and maybe some random values for the blue balls.

@1XxXJNTXxX1 The game reads information from information which is normally never used, all of these levels were generated. There are a total of 134217728 levels, although some of these are duplicates.

In hexadecimal this is 8000000 and my theory is that, this contributes to exactly half of the amount of bytes in the game's ROM image, I can't be sure though, you could ask an expert. 134217728 is (8^9), or (2^27).

If you have the ROM of Sonic & Knuckles and the ROM of Sonic 1 you can copy the contents of both ROMs (S&K first) to a new file, which will start as Blue Sphere in an emulator. I even made a batch file to lock on various games to S&K.

Blue Spheres runs on a code-based system. Theoretically, if you knew the code for the level, you could skip right to it.

Huh...strange. When I played it, it apparently stopped at lvl 999 ending with a black emerald. But I guess that's because my system over-heated.

He probably used an emulator. And 23,411,487 is, although not a 2^x-1, still an over 24-bit number (as 2^24 = 16,777,216). Not to mention the "CODE" is a password system. Probably just went to the level randomly and tried it, and like it.

For those who don't know, this happened because you could plug almost any Sega Genesis game into Sonic and Knuckles and it would automatically generate millions of levels from the code on the cartridge using some kind of weird procedure.

A common misconception is that this only works with Sonic 1. I used to do it with Decap Attack all the time, which gave different levels.

The idea that it only worked with Sonic 1 was that you actually got codes with Sonic 1 so you can continue playing later on or come back to a favorite stage.

And while games like Decap Attack did generate random stages, most Genesis games just generated a single stage.

To pentherapy and laughingfurry: The codes are generated differently for each game, like if yu want to play the same stage but you got it from Sonic 1/Compilation lock-on, you must find out on a website (I forgot which one) that generates the code for non-Sonic 1 cartridges. Also, games made after Sonic & Knuckles are actually incompatible (not like Blue Sphere, but literally incompatible) with S&K lock-on. It would just load up S&K in that case.
