  • Jesus Christ. Over a minute flat out. God was I born in the wrong dekaad.

  • men is in dutch: man, thats why le MANs is for real men

  • hihi bin selber aus Frankfurt

  • which turn s the white house corner?

  • Epic Straight.

  • najo mein hintern ist geil

  • Balls of carbon fibre. Steel was too heavy.

  • hiya meine brüste wachsen

  • wow thats great!!! But can ervery one tell me from where come the two porsche carrera?

  • at 0:48 he's breaking the sound barrier? hehehehehehe

I miss the old Le Mans circuit without the chincanes on the big straight...

    GREAT VIDEO!

  • When you’re passing RSR’s like they’re standing still you know you’re moving quickly.

    Outstanding thanks

  • @soniq71 My thoughts exactly. A lap in one of those RSRs would make my shit myself, let alone the 936.

  • Super-Super-Super video.

    Thanks !

    Dd

  • Mega. Brilliant, Fantastic. Three words that suit the video.

  • Sexy!

  • amazing how fast these trees fly by.

  • Passing Carreras like they were parked. Absolute animal.

  • Looks like you better have some long legs to run LeMans, what a high speed circuit..and kinda dull in some respects. The M. Straight is so damn long a guy could get to daydreaming, or listening to every little rattle and wondering if the tires are inflated properly or a halfshaft getting ready to flail it's way out of the chassis. Many times places like this and the Isle of Mann become inapproaite for modern racers. They never dreamed of the speeds reached nowdays. Great video, thanks for post.

  • 1:08: I love how he says „ „…at the moment there is only little traffic but in the race it can be very dangerous to pass the slower cars….(1:24) as seen here with the Carreras….”

Didn´t know that you called Carreras “slow cars” back in the 1970s… ;-) Looks like they were parking.

These racers were incredible. I remember one saying “we had the legs in front of the front axle..”

Guess chances to get back home alive were as good as for a Taliban suicide bomber

  • OMG!!!

  • this 936 had a gearbox damage after a quarter of the race,it went out of the pits P41 and won the race o.o

  • like it was yesterday, awesome

  • Jojo, ¡cómo adelanta a los otros Porsche!

  • to me these were the real race cars! no traction control, no abs, no stability control, no bullshit!!!

  • @xrayracer1 well said my friend ...

  • @xrayracer1 Actually, in modern racers, I think there's only traction control that's allowed.

  • @samiurrahmanshah In F1, I'm pretty sure they have launch control, plus they have that overtaking feature where they push a button on the steering wheel that gives the engine a bit more power and lowers the rear wing to creat less downforce. (i may be wrong about the launch control)

  • @xrayracer1 I can't be too sure about launch control, the way rules are evolving, it's hard to follow. I do remember that they had a type of anti-stall control, which disengaged the clutch whenever the ECU sensed the engine was about to stall. As for these LMPs, I think the only electronic aids are the traction / launch control, oh and pit lane speed limiters. They all work by modulating engine power.

  • @samiurrahmanshah pit lane speed limiters are ok, here in australia the V8 supercar series, they have speed limiters for in the pit lanes, but i'm pretty sure they have no electronic driving aids. ( one thing is for sure, it will be interesting if the F1 cars switch to turboed 4cyl engines)

  • @xrayracer1 In 2014 (not sure of the year, but I think that's correct) F1 cars will only be allowed to use electric power in pit lane. Gas powered elsewhere.......the golden days of racing are ending.....

  • Great video, absolutely brilliant!

  • Nice, love the 936 - great car...

  • My dad said they'd pass him in the 935 like he was standing still..

  • One word: U.N.B.E.L.E.V.A.B.L.E.

  • O.O IVE NEVER SEEN SUCH SKILL!!!!!!!!!!!:D!!

  • it looks like this uy is competing with other drivers of a lower class! look how easily he passes them, they cant be in the same class, or are they!?

  • @poralentierno He was passing Porsche 911 Carrera RSRs. Basically 800-900 HP 936 vs. 300-400 HP 911 RSRs.

  • Comment removed

  • @JUMPMAN23MCM He has passed also 934 RSR (~480 hp) and 935 turbo (~560-590hp) Porsches, while the lightweight 936 has "only" 540hp.

  • The other Porsches are more or less, about 315 km / h or 320 km / h at maximum. And the porsche 936 surpasses as if they were stationed. We could say that the 936 is about 90 km / h more than the others, more or less. The 936 should go to about 403 to 409 km / h. Sorry for my bad english.

  • look at the speed! holy cow!

  • 2:43 oh das war der Zweite;-)

  • The best race track! Here are some of my videos on Le mens track:

    /watch?v=CZi2FzfBnEA

    /watch?v=0poS9wNDIl0

    /watch?v=iXEKGaYAuCs

  • Holy Crap !!!! That thing is on rails !!!!!

  • I love the sound of this Porsche 936 and to see the differences in the 1977 track and now.Just to tell u im a ferrari guy

  • Two words: Millennium Falcon.

  • Old Hunaudières = 6 km or 3,7 miles...

Best Track of the world with the Nordschleife, but Le Mans' legend is still alive.

  • Circuit de la sarthe back then looks better than today!

    It got alot of trees!

  • @brainysnaeha Yes and lots of cars crashed into those trees at high speed. More of this, please!

  • THE BEST!!!!

  • Great video,Thank you.

    Dd

  • A lot different and a lot faster than today's Le Mans...

  • its stolen from the Porsche channel xP

  • @LukeLamping so what ... you have only Favorites on your channel (200+), and NO up-loads just a "silhouette" guy representing your channel . You've had a You-Tube channel here for a long time now lad , at least post up a j-Peg pic off the computer you are using . : example >pet, race car,you .. anything

  • @lolahavasuaz i had another channel before with uploads but theres something called WMG .. -.- and since then i was just too lazy

  • wow there were 2 dunlops....and nice to see old de la sarthe...Musanne was long eh? :)

and i love Porsche chicanes though...

  • The Jurgen Barth/Jackie Ickx car, and winner

  • LAG

  • look that straigth !!

  • Super neat !!...Is this the best video on Youtube ??

  • i couldn't imagine ever traveling this fast in an automobile!! wow, it almost seems not fair he's just blowin by those other porches haha

  • wow the circuit de la sarthe sure has changed

  • priceless

  • Wow, he's hauling ass..

  • God i love these porsche racing engines from the old days

  • recorded on film man pure retro

  • porsche is sportcar

  • maxpart-racing.de/rennsport-classics/martini-racing/ found some nice retro reproductions of team clothing from martini racing

  • klasse jürgen. unsterblich wird man erst wenn man die 24heures dumans gewinnt

  • Great! Classic race car.

  • Top speed: 400 Km/h at that time, right?

  • guys... this keeps going for 24 hours......... i got respect for the drivers

  • @alphenchick Absolutely...and to keep 911s/930s that are going all out moving aside to let you go by at almost twice their speed, is pretty amazing.

  • fuck the chicanes. we want the old track

  • What I found almost frightening was the closing speeds with the 911s down the Mulsanne. They might have been doing 160mph+ and he went past them liking they were doing half that

  • I'd piss my pants if I was in this car :P

  • LOL at a ZR1 being even remotely close to the same league as this car.

  • when the world begins to slow down.....you movin

  • How fast did they go on the Mulsane straight then? I know the Group C cars in the 80s were doing over 250 mph!!! But I love this shot of how long the Mulsane was without the chicanes!

  • These last two comments are great for the latest one I'm just glad that we still have a 24 hour lemans and for the second..enough with stupid american comments please!!! no corvette or shit eating mustang 5 liter would ever be as fast as a car designed for lemans please get over your self america doesn't rock, A radio flyer has better handling than anything made in the states they look better to..............Fuckin H2 who the fuck thought that was a good idea

  • @sammeheddy That Porsche is a beast, but from an era long gone.. "A radio flyer has better handeling than american cars" This comment just shows how much of an utter douche bag you really are. What about the Corvette, that has dominated the GT class for years. What about the Viper, another great car. Or the shelby cobra, or GT40 & ford GT. I could probably sit here all day naming cars that are built in America, that can spank all over the best that europe and asia have to offer today.

  • @gregmacknass look audi S1 and then think it over....or bmw m3 gts

  • @sammeheddy Results are results. And try not to insult people with incredibly narrow minded statements like that.

  • Love the way the driver almost power-slides the car through Arnage corner! Epic!

  • The old la Sarthe is the real one.

  • @adyolive Bring it back.No chicane at mulsanne,FANTASTIC.

  • @wrm1943

FIA introduces 2 chicanes for safety reasons but now, with high tec tires and suspension and above all, the cars are aerodinamicaly evolved. After all, the essence of LeMans is SPEED & RESISTANCE.

    So, bring it on!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @adyolive Right with ya mate.

  • @wrm1943

    Chicane Mulsane ??

There is no chicane at Mulsane.

    Mulsane is only the curve.

The straight line is "Hunaudieres" but i think is difficult to spell this name in foreign language.

....and your name " wm" is the car who has the best world record speed in Le Mans 405 km/hour.

  • @666Vredesbyrd Mate, everyone I know descibed them as chicanes, even the information on wikipedia,so who is right then?To be honest I'm not worried about it,I just love le mans. You are right about the record speed, mind blowing.WRM,stands for White Rose Movement.

  • @wrm1943

In France the name" Mulsanne" is known only for the curve, The straigh line is "les Hunaudières". Chek in youtube for exemple ( Le Mans 2010 at LES HUNAUDIERES (Mulsanne Straight) . It's more easy to say Mulsanne than "les Hunaudieres" in english, German, Dutch , Urdu, etc etc...;-)

I'm born, rised and live in Le Mans .

WRM is like the english band. The Style of music Punk electro ( i rode on wiki). For me is "melo metal ". that i prefer.

    Vive l'Australie and the Aussie

  • @666Vredesbyrd I had no idea you are from lemans,no argument's about so called chicanes here,it's nice to learn something about lemans.By the way I'm heading there one day and it should be a buzz.WRM43 is named after Sophie and Hans Scholl back in WW2 as resistance to the nazi's.They died in 1943.

  • Amazing. Mulsanne straight without chicane !

  • @Ladju24 yup, it was cool.

  • What a ride.WOOOOHOOOOO.

  • Dieing in this car would be worth it... such a great car.

  • damm fast :o

  • jürgen barth won the race in 1977 with the porsche936 and when you see the clip you understand why !!! great driver

  • Merci, c'est génial de revoir le circuit tel qu'il était il y a 30 ans

  • It certainly says something that every car on course was a Porsche!

  • wow imagine the G force going into a corner with this car... freaking bad ass car from hell.. thumbs up.

  • Back when it was a man's mans circuit instead of a survival of the curves. How many times do we have to tell you "Slower Traffic KEEP right"¿ No matter how fast you think you are going; there is always someone going MUCH faster.

  • Mulsanne is awesome... "slower traffic keep right"!!

  • nowadayz things are more safing and im sick of seeing audi win all the time, back then these guys were going faster and facing death around everyturn thats what made racing exciting!!!!

  • back in the days when racing cars were real racing cars, no computers onboard, just man and machine, an era lost forever that our kids will never experience, that speed scares me,he is an amazing driver,no doubt.

  • Jurgen really hauled ass in Arnage (2:39); I thought he was going to spin out the way his car wiggled exiting that right hander.

  • :34 - the car hits the Mulsanne - this is freaking awesome - damn, if I ever race a sports car at this track, I'd never forget the thrill of racing on the Mulsanne - this straightaway with two chicanes splitting it into 1 mile straights each would be a dream drive from 100 mph to 215.

  • "On the left! Asshole!"

  • That car looks easily fast enough to keep up with today's audis and peugeots

  • @Jinjajamie

if it handled like a dream, it probably would

  • Porsche make the best sounding 6 cylinder engines ever! They aren't short on power either.

  • add insanely reliable and easy to tune to insane amounts of horsepower

  • Sports Car Prototype lapping at its best!

  • Formula 1 is not so fast, because it has open wheels.

  • Fantastic Hunaudiers.......

  • I only wish I could have been there.

  • great post! smooth driving.beautiful sound. this guy is fast. xlnt..thanks

  • Mmmmm......makes a huge mistake at Arnage where he misses the apex and has to correct the oversteer on the exit.

  • It's crealy a mistake but it's doesn't cost him much time overall. he keeps the pace in and let's the turbo's spool up. So it's not that dramatic. Still a mistake, though.

  • @BaronBoy100 He actually mentions this himself in the video: "Oh, das war etwas weit..."="Oh, I am running a little wide..." at 2:44.

  • @BaronBoy100 ohhh!!!! so we got obviously a very talented racer here??? you think you could handle a porsche 936 better than jürgen barth;huh???

  • @3dfxnd3 I really fail to see what your problem is. I was merely commenting on another's post about what a smooth lap it was. Clearly there was a "moment" at Arnage that others have commented on as well. I suggest you get a life.

  • le mans during the 70's was one of the top in motorsport racing history...very nice post...and Barth would have won that year...

  • Correct: Jurgen Barth, Hurley Haywood and Jacky Ickx. I think that, despite what the intro says, this is Ickx because of the colour of the helmet. Barth's helmet was white, Ickx's helmet was apparently a very dark Blue (always looked brownish to me). So unless Jurgen borrowed Jacky's helmet, this is Ickx.

  • The days before paddle-shift.

You can even see him working away at those gears with his right hand.

  • Sound seems out of synch though. Anyone else have this problem?

  • omly porsche in this vid?.great, very fast.

  • damn nice, much better than the track today is.

  • @xoxTOWELIExox

And so much better than the cars today are.

  • @xoxTOWELIExox

The track hasn't really changed, two chicanes were added and that's about it.

The grandstands and building complexes/pits are much bigger. But the track hasn't really changed aside those few face lifts that's all.

The track has got quite a bit slower through the Musanne Straight though, due to those two chicanes.

  • @terminator363GAMES

I know, since I drove on the new track in several racing games...

but still the old track had a charme that never again will be the same !

  • @terminator363GAMES

The two chicanes at Hunaudieres were not the only changes, Maison Blanche and Porsche curves, Ford Chicane, and the section from Dunlop to the esses have changed too since 1967 and before ´32 the north of the track had a totally different layout.

  • it looks like the video in the museum by main entrance of the track

  • porsche one make race

  • 70 le mans cool

  • @ :50, thats a nice straight line to do a little big of race! ;)

  • AWSOM ¡¡¡¡¡

  • Lots of misinformation on the 936 here. I have several books on Le Mans and the late '70s 936s had about 540-580 HP and reached up to 220+ mph on the Mulsanne. The heavier roadcar based 935s could make 750-850 HP and threaten 230 mph, although they couldn't lap as fast as the best 936s. Still, damn impressive that they could outrun the 936s! By '81, the last of the 936s had up to 640 HP and could reach 235 mph, amazing!

My favorite era of Le Mans is '76 to '91, era of the Turbo Gods!!!

  • the 917 longtails of '71 hittin 246mph and the drivers are the best, you had to be very good to control those beasts

  • Can't believe that old chestnut is still doing the rounds. Oliver got to 240. Once. And that was in the April test weekend. It didn't mean ALL 917s were that fast.

Oh well, I've heard more outrageous claims about it.

  • wow amazing ...

  • I remember seeing somewhere that a guy (in the sixties I think) took a powerful mercedes saloon car and basically invaded the race. He kept going until he ran out of fuel when he was then arrested. Does anyone know anything more about this?

  • Anybody know what year they added the chicanes to the Mulsanne straight and why?

  • 1990, for two reasons - one, a few cars reached (and in the case of a WM-Peugeot, broke) the 250 mark every lap, and two, the FIA is stupid.

  • Thanks. Not really a "straight" anymore I guess. It seems to me the FIA likes to make races slower.

  • There was a number of cars that "took off" when doing 400+ kmh. The chicanes was added mostly for spectator safety. They did not want a car to land in the crowds like in 1955.

  • To be fair, the cars that took off in the late '80s did so because of total tire failures. Punctures were and still are the ultimate nightmare of a Le Mans driver, but at those speeds, a puncture which leads to tire failure is even more frightening.

Just ask Win Percy and Klaus Niedwiedz.

  • They also brought in a rule that meant any FIA sanctioned event, the straight couldn't be more than something like 1.4 km long, not sure exactly how long it is though.

  • 2 km long

  • 1968 i think......not 100%

  • F1 would beat lap record, and that;s all,... F1 is created for 2 hour race,.. F1 cars are created on Limit! and these car with saves,... For 24 hours

  • Those 911 Porsches look like they are stuck in 1st gear! Great to see the old Mulsanne straight before the chicanes were added.

  • passes two other Porsches at 2:20

"You must have been hauling a&&, I had to speed up to pass you"!

    Wow that is scary fast.

  • sehr geiles video!

  • signed (Ray Bellm) C2 World Endurance Ch'p 1985 Poster: E-bay no: 180404038854

  • "american also.." No, a ZR1 could not beat that, even if you brought on back to 1977 in a time machine. Check out specs before making retarded *american* comments

  • lol it was * irony *

  • Nice One XD

  • i think the chassis on this car weighed 100lbs lol... with 1000hp. there is no car today that could beat this car.

  • well... The Mercedes Sauber C9 and the other group c class cars...

  • Michaels f1 from 2006 with larger gears would beat this believe me it would

  • Not before the suspension on the car would be destroyed just half a mile down the Mulsanne Straight.

  • I think the suspensions of a modern f1 can handle way more than the ones used in the 936 I'm not hating but there are 30 years of engineering evolution

  • I don't think you understand F1 cars at all. One, F1 engines can't stay at redline for long, not like the 936, and two, the Mulsanne Straight is EXTREMELY bumpy. A racecar's suspension could handle it, but not an F1 car's.

  • aha so tell me how the honda button was drivin a couple of years ago did 406 in Bonneville I'm sure it was falt out for a long time. It wouldn0t survive 24 hours but it would survive some laps for sure

  • @3L3CTR0static

    No wings, IIRC.
