great lp with 3 good tracks, was a good spin for giles peterson and the soulfull crowd buying records around londons soho in the ealy 90's...kev beadle, giles, pat forge, etc.......loved this track, now the northern crossover boys latched on to "battened ships" thats what music is about, ready to school even the hardest of collectors with records they never had or missed, plenty more out there!!!
I love you for posting this song, this is the only place I can hear it! How sad is this world that it didn't even make it to limewire, or the iTunes store. (Apple -- You SUCK)
I was turned on to this by Amy Goodman and Democracy NOW! It was played during break this past during one of their newscasts. I'm pleased to learn of the connection to Haiti. 'Our are shaped by what we love'. :-D I bet Randall Robinson turned Amy onto this song.
I think this song was written by the son of the famous Pan Africanist CLR James, author of The Black Jacobins, the classic account of the Haitian Revolution.
As a child he was "Nobby" and the children's stories written to him by his father who next to W.E.B. Du Bois the the pillar of the Black radical tradition are now published as "The Nobby Stories for Children and Adults"
After hearing this for the first time last week I have not been able to get the tune out of my head.
I spent a whole day trying to track it down to no avail.I finally came across a reference to this track being on a compilation Mojo Club presents Volume 3 and was fuming.
I have had that vinyl since it came out years ago and never played this track, assuming it was the camp Odyssey.
@eamcas67 well all do that and forget the belters we have in our record collection!! I always back track into my vinyl and find goodies I forgot about or ignored at the time!!
Our Lives are shaped by what we love ........... and who. True ?

both odyssey's were good. "cheesy disco band" the other was not. if you actually heard their lp's, you wouldn't be saying that.

Good post IncrediblecHiller. That'll be enough criticism about Odyssey the disco group. I Love Native New Yorker
