Does this have anything to do with islam, or is he a practicing muslim? I'm doing a unit in world cultures and it would be great if anyone could email me about this. thanks guys
@weipax actually he is Druze which is considered a branch of Islam. Fareed may want to consider himself Muslim yet most Muslims will not consider Fareed a Muslim.
@sakkorig Farid was a Druze , not sure if music for them is prayer or not, You can check Sufi beliefs, some of their prayers - ways to get close to God - is through music

merslover1 you are right i know the history of the druze goes back 1000 years but in syria probably only a few hundred years the early centuries were spent in egypt where the sect started.
Thank you for posting. The LEGENDARY Mr. El-Atrash's music is truly eternal. This is so amazing to watch the master doing what he loved so much and that is inspiring so many.......... :)
This music can play all day in behind without bothering my ears, no matter what I'm doing (working, driving, reading, relaxing, making love, sleeping ...) hmmmmm making love with this music what an idea :D
Damn, man. This guy is fuckin' awesome! He's one of my favorite musicians. I also agree with Habarbur. I'm jewish and this guy is so good. It's sad he's dead.
who cares where he is from something wrong with people like that he is human and you don't own anything at the end it does not matter where you from or how rich or powerful you are. you are a speck of dust evaporating and pictures of you what left
@HABARBUR I hope Israelis would come to terms with the fact that *this* isn't their culture; trust me all of those artists were anti-zionist and pan-arabs.. seriously.
thanks for your note. farid was a great musician which I am proud of knowing him arabic, whether his mother is from syria or from any other country. Now if it is important for you to know you can check wikipedia for farid el atrach, and if still not convinced check visit-syria and if still not convinced see the book images of enhancement and if still not convinced go to hasbayah and ask about Alia al munzir al atrash mother of asmahan (Amal), farid and Fuad.
what are you talking about? Although it shouldn't matter what ethnic group he belongs to he is a great artist and that is all what matters. But if you must know Farid Elatrach lived and had his career in Egypt but his family came from Syria and they are Drooz. All nice good people. thanks.
@icebytes I love Syria & Lebanon. But Farid was an Egyptian artist. Farid as an artist has been made in Egypt. Almost all his songs and films are Egyptian. He –himself- was proud to be an Egyptian and he preferred to be buried in Cairo.
@romantiquo The competition between the Egyptian artists was usually severe. It looks like a sort of civil war. But the Egyptian people loved Fareed and still love him. His funeral was one of the four great and most attended funerals in the history of Egypt.
@mesrlover1 i am sorry sweetie but even if he lived in egypt, he is syrian born. he was buried in cairo because his mom took him and his siblings to egypt to run from his father who was in the war and she didn't want her kids in the middle of the war. they got their citizenship in egypt and never returned to syria. but, still, he is syrian born and a syrian. it doesnt matter where he got famous.
@tnutty12 You said it. He came to Egypt when he was a kid. He lived most of his age in Egypt. I know that he worked hard in Egypt. His talents were born & developed there. He was always in Egyptian groups. With very very few exceptions he used in all his songs and films the Egyptian dialects. You cannot imagine them in any other language. They are Egyptian products. I know that he is born in my beloved Levant
@mesrlover1 Farid was born in Suwayda, Syria to the Druze Atrash family who fought the French Colonial armies.[3] His father was Syrian and mother Lebanese.[4] As a child, Farid emigrated with his mother and siblings to Egypt, escaping the French occupation. Later, they were naturalized by the Egyptian government as citizens. Farid's mother sang and played the oud, which spurred his musical interest at an early age.
@mesrlover1 it honestly doesn't even matter where he was born. my parents were born in syria, and i am first generation here in the states. so, i know a bit about these legends seeing as i grew up listening to them. he is talented and will never be forgotten. but facts are facts. he is syrian born.
@tnutty12 Thank you for this valuable information. We agree. He is Syrian born. He is an Egyptian citizen and Egyptian artist. And you are beautiful & smart I am sure
i remember this when i was a child and my dad used to listen to Farids music and songs we have old LPs of his stuff along with some others. classic stuff man. i love this music.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
GREAT ! . you are a veyr polite very respectful eprson THANKS YOU SO MUCH ... have a great enjoyful week . i personaly think eh is very overratted and annoying .
oh yes - I almost forgot...Munir Bashir. His recital in Budapest is beyond belief. Much much more talented than ANYTHING I've ever heard from this commercial sell out.
Apples and Oranges. Farid was much more than a top oud player. He was equally famous for his singing, composing, and movies... Considered a pioneer of modern Arab music. That is the opposite of a "sell out."
hamza el din is not the master farid el atrashe is the master do your homework and get it straight you obviously don't know about arabic people because your not one of us this is the king or the oud and no one can play like him show this man some respect he is dead hamza el din is not the master this is the master that person is the junior hamza el din how in the hell and who in the hell is that he is a baby compared to farid el atrashe and mohammed abdel wahab
While Farid is a great oud player - he's got NO SOUL. He has two subjects. Love and patriotism. He was a tool. He should have taken Frank Zappa's advice and "shut up and play yer oud". Every time he opens his mouth, the song is ruined.
Hamza however - is a musician with soul that refused to sell out. By the way - as for "Arabism" kos omak.
oh - and please enjoy more Disney - brought to you by the Zionists at ABC/Disney.
Idiot.
This is why Yemenis are shooting at each other. It's why Fatah and Hamas are shooting at each other. It's why the Saudi ruling pimps sell out to the Americans. Why the Egyptian thugs close their borders to Palestinians. Why the Sudanese contiue genocide. Because "Arabism" is alive and well - because Arabism is by definition stabbing a brother in the back.
i don't think you are really arabic no being arab is not about stabbing a brother in the back being arab is about respecting god praying 5 times to allah and respecting your parents not eating or touching nothing with pork and actually i am arab you inti habla you've never seen farid el atrashe in a movie or even sing i have i have watched all of his movies
i know islam and arab aren't the same word islam is the religion we live by and arab is what we are but this dude is putting the blame on an american company like disney thats why american people dislike arabs because it's people like him that blame it on american people and then he goes and calls farid el atrashe not the master yes farid by far is the master most of the music you hear in belly dancing is from farid el atrashe mohammed abdel wahab and so on thats what i was saying about it okay
disney has nothing to do with the and arabs and the palestian people your the idiot the egyptian people don't close there borders to palestians is the jewish who close there borders to the palestians the palestians are prisoners in there own land and there own house they have to have permission to even leave there own house and they have curfews and they have absolutely no rights whatsoever so don't talk about arabism because your not an arab your just an american arab wannabe
I don't recall ever saying I was arab? and yes, Disney has a lot to do with it. Arabs are supporting Zionism through their support of companies like Disney.
Egyptians do share a border with Gaza...you might want to buy a map and learn something about your own geography...then you can take the map w't nik omak biha...I think she is hayga again.
and palestians aren't allowed to cross the border because the jewish will stop them i am palestian and i have family how live in bethlehem and i can't even get in to gaza without being searched we can't even get into gaza without having permission from the government i know my geography disney has nothing to do with egypt and the arab countries it's ignorant people like you who think like that and i am a person raised on farid el atrashe so please don't disrespect someone that i admire

thanks for your note. farid was a great musician which I am proud of knowing him arabic, whether his mother is from syria or from any other country.

Too bad that today there is no such connections

@sason999999999
what are you talking about? Although it shouldn't matter what ethnic group he belongs to he is a great artist and that is all what matters. But if you must know Farid Elatrach lived and had his career in Egypt but his family came from Syria and they are Drooz. All nice good people. thanks.

Tablighe 1 year ago
@icebytes I love Syria & Lebanon. But Farid was an Egyptian artist. Farid as an artist has been made in Egypt. Almost all his songs and films are Egyptian. He –himself- was proud to be an Egyptian and he preferred to be buried in Cairo.
mesrlover1 1 year ago
@mesrlover1 That is true, but you guys never treated him as an Egyptian, you always made him feel a stranger. For that, you all go burn in hell.
romantiquo 1 year ago
@romantiquo The competition between the Egyptian artists was usually severe. It looks like a sort of civil war. But the Egyptian people loved Fareed and still love him. His funeral was one of the four great and most attended funerals in the history of Egypt.
mesrlover1 1 year ago
@mesrlover1 i am sorry sweetie but even if he lived in egypt, he is syrian born. he was buried in cairo because his mom took him and his siblings to egypt to run from his father who was in the war and she didn't want her kids in the middle of the war. they got their citizenship in egypt and never returned to syria. but, still, he is syrian born and a syrian. it doesnt matter where he got famous.
tnutty12 1 year ago
@tnutty12 You said it. He came to Egypt when he was a kid. He lived most of his age in Egypt. I know that he worked hard in Egypt. His talents were born & developed there. He was always in Egyptian groups. With very very few exceptions he used in all his songs and films the Egyptian dialects. You cannot imagine them in any other language. They are Egyptian products. I know that he is born in my beloved Levant
mesrlover1 1 year ago
@mesrlover1 Farid was born in Suwayda, Syria to the Druze Atrash family who fought the French Colonial armies.[3] His father was Syrian and mother Lebanese.[4] As a child, Farid emigrated with his mother and siblings to Egypt, escaping the French occupation. Later, they were naturalized by the Egyptian government as citizens. Farid's mother sang and played the oud, which spurred his musical interest at an early age.
tnutty12 1 year ago
@mesrlover1 it honestly doesn't even matter where he was born. my parents were born in syria, and i am first generation here in the states. so, i know a bit about these legends seeing as i grew up listening to them. he is talented and will never be forgotten. but facts are facts. he is syrian born.
tnutty12 1 year ago
@tnutty12 Thank you for this valuable information. We agree. He is Syrian born. He is an Egyptian citizen and Egyptian artist. And you are beautiful & smart I am sure

oh yes - I almost forgot...Munir Bashir. His recital in Budapest is beyond belief. Much much more talented than ANYTHING I've ever heard from this commercial sell out.
ibrahimtamerm 2 years ago
Apples and Oranges. Farid was much more than a top oud player. He was equally famous for his singing, composing, and movies... Considered a pioneer of modern Arab music. That is the opposite of a "sell out."

By the way - as for "Arabism" kos omak.
ibrahimtamerm 2 years ago
oh - and please enjoy more Disney - brought to you by the Zionists at ABC/Disney.
Roh yalla...roh el3ab fi kharak.
ibrahimtamerm 2 years ago
i don't think you are really arabic no being arab is not about stabbing a brother in the back being arab is about respecting god praying 5 times to allah and respecting your parents not eating or touching nothing with pork and actually i am arab you inti habla you've never seen farid el atrashe in a movie or even sing i have i have watched all of his movies

Islam and Arab are not the same word.
Mastahfong 2 years ago
i know islam and arab aren't the same word islam is the religion we live by and arab is what we are but this dude is putting the blame on an american company like disney thats why american people dislike arabs because it's people like him that blame it on american people and then he goes and calls farid el atrashe not the master yes farid by far is the master most of the music you hear in belly dancing is from farid el atrashe mohammed abdel wahab and so on thats what i was saying about it okay
wolverine301977 2 years ago
disney has nothing to do with the and arabs and the palestian people your the idiot the egyptian people don't close there borders to palestians is the jewish who close there borders to the palestians the palestians are prisoners in there own land and there own house they have to have permission to even leave there own house and they have curfews and they have absolutely no rights whatsoever so don't talk about arabism because your not an arab your just an american arab wannabe
wolverine301977 2 years ago
I don't recall ever saying I was arab? and yes, Disney has a lot to do with it. Arabs are supporting Zionism through their support of companies like Disney.
Egyptians do share a border with Gaza...you might want to buy a map and learn something about your own geography...then you can take the map w't nik omak biha...I think she is hayga again.
ibrahimtamerm 2 years ago
and palestians aren't allowed to cross the border because the jewish will stop them i am palestian and i have family how live in bethlehem and i can't even get in to gaza without being searched we can't even get into gaza without having permission from the government i know my geography disney has nothing to do with egypt and the arab countries it's ignorant people like you who think like that and i am a person raised on farid el atrashe so please don't disrespect someone that i admire
