  • you should of just stratled the trench instead... would of been much easier and more eficient

  • @Gasoline500 Well we figured it out, and now 2 years later, you can't even see the trench. Thanks!

  • I owned a 140 and the first thing it came with was a 72" mowing deck..at the time it was the largest lawn mower and smallest garden tractor. The owner here should go for AG tires and ring chains. Perhaps wheel weights as well. We created an extension for the blade for doing what they are doing the video. It allowed you to start at one end and run along side the trench with the extended side and fill in in one pass.

  • @2naturesownplace Thanks for the comment. The owner... me, loves this old 140. It did a great job when we did this trench filling two years ago. We still use the old tractor today for many tasks around property.

  • To decrease spinning of the tractor, you can blow out some air of the tyres! (sorry for my bad english)

  • @fotisdeere Thanks for the tip!

  • You should have had the young man use a shovel and a garden rake....but there might have been physical limitations why it was done this way...but as long as your happy and feel good about the job that was done that's all that matters.

  • @JSeely218 Okay... Thanks. The fact there was over 1000 feet in total to do might be limitation enough. And yes, I was very satisfied how the the old tractor performed.

  • get a real machine like a shovel don't look like that lawnmower is working to well

  • @dgk2ify It worked great for a 40 year old machine. Thanks for watching!

  • @dgk2ify a john deere 140 IS NOT a lawnmower. it is a heavy duty garden tractor. really a small utility tractor. i have a john deere 112 and a cub cadet 147, trust me these machines are meant for this kind of work. they are not toys. anyone that thinks these machines are lawnmowers doesnt know what the hell they are talking about. ignorance is bliss. rock on with your 140. they are awesome machines.

  • @dgk2ify A shovel wouldn't be near as fun. Besides just looks like he needs some weight on the back and bar tires or chains for traction. Plus a little more time learning how to do it best. I imagine by the time they were done they got it figured out. These things are made for this kind of light work anyway.

  • my international cub dose better plowin dirt then that, but you have alot more weight on the front with the hydrolics

  • @destroybob14 That's why I stood on the back. If I had my chains on it would have done a better job.

  • didnt do terribly bad for turf tires with no extra traction!

  • @1944johndeerel Thanks! I was on the back, at the end, for some extra traction.

  • @edzgarage dont you have a set of chains for it? they would give some extra grip.

  • @1944johndeerel No, I used to but they got worn out and then broke. We usually only use the tractor for lawn duty.

  • @edzgarage well you can get a nice set of chains from TSC for a good reasonable price just incase you ever need it in a pinch.

  • @1944johndeerel Thanks! I'll have to look into it.

  • @edzgarage yeah i almost bought a set for my 210 there. its not always easy to find chains for 23x10.50-12 tires in local stores but its listed in there book and i cant remember exactly but i belive it was about $50 for a set. they were nice too, but i found a brand new set of john deere chains on craigslist cheaper lol.

  • hell yea, nice video man. I love that john deere. Cool blade too!

  • @tractormandale Thanks for the comment!

  • alright ill post some vids for you edzgarage...yuo wont beleive your eyes

  • I'll be watching!

  • my case garden tractor would have this done in a bout 5 minuites

  • lol I just looked at your channel and there are no vids of your tractor.

  • @edzgarage nope it is way way to big and tough to show people on youtube.

  • I'd like to see your tractor. I like all types of tractors and would not say anything bad about anyone's tractor. Please respect me too. -Ed

  • @Haleyr888 what model? we have a 446 and it could tow a brick wall it has so much weight on the rear axle traction isnt a problem.

  • Some weight on the back and bar tires would help too. He is learning should get better with time. Imagine he was having fun though.

  • If you slowed down, you could float your blade and continue in the forward motion. Steering with one hand and floating the blade with the other. All in all, a good job.

  • Thanks for the comment.

  • nice

  • Thanks 8-)

  • yeah them 140's are beasts!!! no weight or chains!!! and still gets the job done.

  • Yep! Great old machines!

  • nice vid, but the 1968 John Deere 140 kinda looks like a lawn mower, lol

  • It's considered a garden tractor. Yes, it mows the lawn too.

  • If you had bar lug tires and some weight on the back you would have better traction. Nice little tractor though.

  • Yea, better tires and weight would really help this tractor out.

  • Thanks. I just finished filling the rest of the trenches, before the heavy rains this evening.

  • I will blow them out with my compressor in October.

  • you have a way of draining all the water out of it? if the frost hits that water pipe leaky leaky!
