Nice, beautiful, amazing version. The first time in 1990 I heard this version of this song that I know from decade '50 I was stunned and amazed listening to this arrangement as innovative at that time
It's funny that some of Bono's most impassioned vocal performances were on the side projects like this, the Clannad record and Passengers. Maybe there was less pressure away from the 'U2 model' sometimes. ?
I remember this record with fondness, I also liked the Debbie Harry/ Iggy Pop cover of 'Did You Evah' a lot too. A clever idea to raise awareness of AIDS and also raise awareness of Cole Porter too !
Pampered true, BUT their music was more intelligent and passionate in those days. I think now they just do it for promo. Sad, when I was little I wanted to look like Bono. He was the only person in the world I ever wanted to be like because I like myself too much.
Donde habéis dejado el paladar? Fué una versión impresionante, nueva, original de una gran canción de Cole Porter en la década de los 90, seguramente ni habíais nacido
Too bad U2 don't make music the way they used to, but then they have lost their touch. perhaps because they are less motivated, or maybe their pampered lifestyle has made them shallow. I don't like to speculate, but theit is no more passion in anything they do.
@Tianoevanova I respecfully disagree. First, they were already very pampered at the time they recorded this. Matter of fact, they were the biggest band in the world at this point. Second, they didn't write this song, so they can't really take credit for anything but the arrangment. But third, don't you think a song like "Sometimes You Can't Make it On Your Own" is very passionate? I think it is.
@Tianoevanova This is the most stupid comment I have seen about U2. You are those type of people that stay in the album The Joshua Tree and never explore the later U2. You are missing out on U2 when you are turning that ear deaf as you do.
It's from the AIDS charity album....Red,hot and blue"..1990...where about 15 singers did Cole Porter songs...sinead o'connor.debbie harry,kd lang,annie lennox...etc
This song was made as U2 pondered whether to call it quits or go on and make one of the best albums of our generation...."Achtung, Baby" I am glad they decided to keep it going. |-)
I only got to hear this song played on the radio one time when it first was released. Somehow I remembered all the years and now I find the vid on here, how sweet is that? I think the original of this song was performed by Frank Sanatra however I could be wrong on that.
