i got a real good gaming PC and i can play all of the latest games (like COD black ops) on their highest settings yet when i play Halo 2 it lags any idea why?

ok i downloaded the game, but got an error something with Live gaming ... it´s a pretty common error. I got it away by installing ´games for windows - live' but now everytime I start halo 2, when I get to the screen where I have to press any button to continue, when I press a button, the games for windows live screen pops up. it asks me to login and to give the product key. I don't have a product key. does anyone know how to get past this? I only want to play single player mode

for people having trouble with getting h2v on windows 7, just do this. search for the oem files on your computer. when you get to them, move them to a new folder. thats it, then your halo 2 should work

@blainyrules The game will run on yours, but you have to download a crack if you want to run it on Windows XP (and multiplayer does not work on XP). 2GB of RAM is also recommended. If it lags, just turn the graphics down a little.

You've got a pretty good amount of RAM for most games, and not the worse processor, but your video card sucks, especially for COD4.

I've played COD4 (demo anyway...) on highish settings using an 8600GT, 4GB RAM, and an AMD Athlon X2 7750. If I remember right, it's been a while since I played it.

I'd probably avoid the 8600GT if I were you. It's a great card that can run a lot of games, but it's just a little dated. If you want a good card for a good price, I'd go with the ATI HD 4670. It's a lot faster than the 8600GT and, without getting into the technical stuff, has more features.

But if you're not willing to spend that much, check Ebay for the 8600GT. There's a bunch on there for about $40. That's where I got mine a year (or so) ago.

It's really a matter of what you want to do. For mild gaming, especially games like Halo 2 or something, I'd go with the HD 4670 or the 8600GT, but for more major gaming (Crysis...lol) you'd want something like, yeah, the 8800. If it were me though, I'd probably shoot for the ATI HD 4770, at the very least. It's not that much more, it's a better card, and newer and faster in some areas of graphic processing. But that's just me :)

Halo 2 PC sucks because they left the horrible mouse acceleration in it from the crappy console port. No PC gamer ever buy this game! I definitely regret buying it.

No it's all the time and it's called mouse acceleration. It means When you make slow movements it makes the aiming slow and when you turn around fast it speeds up the aiming, in doing this it makes using a mouse very unacurate. Any true PC gamer would notice this and hate it. The mouse acceleration is in because it's a crappy port and they were to lazy change anything for the PC players. They even put auto aim in for the people that use a controller. It sucks.
