  • Where can I get this knife.

  • i found exactly the same knive near a dumpster 15+-years ago here in germany. (there were no US bases is that town though)

back then i wondered why someone would throw a "cool" blade like that away, nice bright orange, knive deploys with a bush of a button....

well i was young and didnt knew anything about knives back then, only had a swiss army knive. when i stumbled over that piece of crap some weeks ago is realized why i found it neat a dumpster, cus that were it belongs :D

  • A retired Navy pilot gave me one of these today except it's not a Camillus. It's a Logan/Smith Venice, FL USA. The person who gave it to me said he had it in one of his desk drawers for about 40 years. It's in super shape considering it's age!

  • Looks like a fishing blade.

  • the airforce issues us defenders the benchmade seat-belt cutters when we deploy. its nice, attaches to the molly and is super easy to use with gloves on.

  • Hey Nutn, unfortunately the bi polar is discontinued, and it has no clip. Sheath only. I'm still trying to get the BP-3 which has a serrated blade instead of the v-cutter.

  • LOL, "Loose Term" love the pun Nutn

  • Hell, even Benchmade's got their own version called the Triage.

  • This same Knife was issued to me in USN pilot training....I had heard that the MFR got it wrong--the hook was was supposed to be auto--The auto feature did not survive a month...some didn't last the day of issue..we opened them several hundred times , playing West Side Story etc///

  • When I was issued my knife I also got a card that gaveme permission to have a switchblade knife. When I left the military I was allowed to keep my knife. The video is totally right as the hook should have been on the swichblade mode and not the knife as they are dull as heck and you cannot swipe at a line and cut it like you can with the hook. They have now gone to the hook only knife. Any 2 year old could design a better knife, but designed in the late 50's and now the prices are 250 and up

  • hey i actually have 3 of these knives, 1 made by camillus and 2 made by schrade which are much better quality, they still have the same opening rebound but the lock up it 10 times better... u can have one of the schrades as a thank you for all the reviews which have helped with countless knifes i have bought

  • @nutnfancy hey man, my uncle was in the 101st, and was issued 2 by mistake, and he gave me his extra. i have no use to it and it is not funcional. do you know how much an older one is worth to a collecter, because mine was made in 1981.

  • yeah they have issues but mine are in better condition ie they work better and I said this on another one of your vids but its pronounced Ca-mill-us and i live hear so im not making it up

it was sad when the cutlery shut down :( and I have a cuda max assisted opening prototype its pretty sweet you should see some of the stuff I got

  • sharpen your shroud cutter: mine works fine on 550

  • The shroud-cutter blade was not intended to be "automatically deployed". By SOP, these were carried with the shroud-cutter blade already opened, and carried in the leg pocket of the flight suit. The bottom of this pocked is reinforced for this purpose. Dummy cord secures the bail of the knife to the grommet of the flight suit pocket so it isn't lost. These were made by Schrade-Walden, Camillus, and Logan-Smyth. Sharpen the shroud cutter and it works.

  • This knife was carried with the hook deployed in the pocket on the inside left leg of the flight suit. It was attached by a cord tied to a grommett on the pocket and then to the knife. If you were in fighters, you would tear this pocket off your flight suit. This is because the G-Suit had this pocket on it as well and it was a status symbol for fighter jocks. If you saw them without the pocket on their flight suit, it said they flew fighters. This is USAF issued to aircrew. Hope this helps.

  • thats embarrassing that they issued that piece of shit

  • still think your dreaming

the MC-1 is a bit basic yes

but i don't agree with you

the air force would never issue your beloved knife....and personally i think it does not matter

  • hey dude,i hav an old navy rope cutting knife made by, mklein and sons chicago usa, blade is blackedout, but not rusted, has same type of "lanyard hole" as yours... u think u might know anything bout it??

  • Never forget that your gear was made by the lowest bidder.

  • I had one of those in the late sixties. Took it to a boyscout campout where it was really popular as a "switchblade". But it was a POS.

  • Dog you gotta remember was that knife used

  • i have the same knife its cool

  • Wow, that hook is honestly less useful for cutting rope that a sharpened piece of hardened dog shit.

  • @mindsmirror Rotfl!

  • I have a couple of these, they were made by about 4-5 differnet Gov contractors...

  • you are pronouncing camillus wrong it is pronounced like ca mill us not cam.

  • if you dont mind my asking...what is your "military job"

  • @bornxtoxbleed what is his military job? Did he ever respond?

  • @manokane2211 I missed the question the first time around, sorry. He's a pilot in the USAF. -- Veri (Nutn's sister)

  • @nutnfancy Ok, cool. He mentions his "military job" throughout his posts without ever specifying what it is. Just curious. I was Marine Recon for some years and changed uniforms, to the 75th Rangers. I am HALO/Airborne qualified with thirteen combat jumps under my belt and Uncle Sam never saw fit to issue me one these shoddy pieces of equipment. (Thank God!!!) Guess Uncle Sam doesn't love his grunts! LOL. Just kidding. Tell him to keep up the thorough reviews we will keep watching.

  • @nutnfancy

    i kept mine

  • @nutnfancy out of curiosity, why do you always answer for Nutn, veri? just curiosity

  • @spartanthree8 Nutn is rarely able to answer for himself. He's usually working or up in the mountains, etc. I can text or call him and get answers to questions that viewers ask..its not the best system, but basically, its all we've got. -- Veri

  • Colonial Knives and Tools also made a similar knife for the military, but MUCH BETTER QUALITY. Could you review the Switchblade Rescue Hook? It's supposed to be legal to carry anywhere and I think it would be an interesting addition to my EDC.

  • what a crappy knife

  • This knife will cut seatbelts in an emergency with the shroud cutter.

It was designed to be issued and carried but rarly used (hopefully never) It was made to cut yourself loose from a parachute or cut lines attaching a person to an air dropped load.

  • Thanks nutnfancy!

i found this review extremely helpful.

i was almost hellbent on buying one of these, now that i saw this review, it would seem as if this is more of a "historical" knife, or something to talk about.

i was going to get one as just an everyday pocketknife, but now that i see how it actually performs, i'll just stick to my old Ka-bar folder my father give me. :)

    Thanks again nutnfancy!

you are truly an asset to the YouTube community!!! :D

  • I got one of these. It was a gift from a friend and it was just somthing that was cool because I love military history.

  • so light why not nuntn throwin gear in and not careing about weight no no no its an imposter lol 5/5

  • my grand pa gave me one of thies and it is just like it

  • personally i dont like that kind of knife just because of the the finish on the blade. it's too shiny. also the blade shape. it the blade looked like the blade on say the leatherman wave it would look and preform alot better.

  • On the other hand, the polished blade can be used as a signaling mirror type item.

  • ok. i can see how that could be an advantage!

  • Thanks, it might not be a large advantage, but every little bit helps! But a much better knife would probably be a Victorinox full size with lock, they are razor sharp and have that mirror blade grind. Just a quick thought, keep up the great videos Nutnfancy!

  • I agree with Kyocera234. I was in the Army for over 8 years, 84 to 93, the last 6 plus years I was Airborne assigned to Airborne units and never saw that knife. That must be something issued to the Air Force.

  • My brother-in-law is a Crewman aboard a C-130 in the air force and he has a couple of these. must have been Air Force issue.

  • it was and still is issue depends on the squadron quartermaster and the money they have

  • Wow, what a POS.

  • Zero Tolerance recently came out with a shroud cutter called the JB2, its got a much longer handle on it so you get more leverage, and it has far more cutting area (270º) its also got a carbide glass breaker and an oxygen tank wrench on it. If I where a pilot, its defenantly what I would go with.

Another great video as always Nutnfancy, keep the NTP going!

  • i got one of these as a child, found it on a junkyard in germany.

its nice to play around, but the blade suxx like hell. gets dull very fast.

  • Wow, that Camillus looks like quite a big p.o.s. for military issue. I sure wouldn't risk my life by taking that knife on a mission.

  • i found this knife in my dads jump suit and i think this knife is fun just to mess around with

  • I spent 7 years in the 82d and 7 in the Army parachute team and I never saw one of those knives, anywhere. What branch are you in? You would not consider using the hook blade to cut out of a malfunctions, believe me you use the large blade. That knife sort of resembles what a "rigger" or parachute packer would have used, but like I said after 21 years at Ft Bragg i never personally saw one like you have there.

  • Hello Mate,

This particular blade is designed to be attached to the jump rig with the hook already deployed during jumps and than simply grabbed and used. I agree it is not a good quality knife but the design is very old as long as you jump with it open you will be able to work with it. I prefer my medic shears for those tasks and it is much more useful on many tasks. You might do a review on different medic shears and cutters and it will be interesting.

    Thank you, Sharon

    Systema Israel.

  • can deploy my buck folder or Barlow much quicker switch blades suck

  • Looks cheap

  • i have one just like this and im wondering where i can get one because camillus is out of business and mine is pretty well broke the way it was given to me the lock is broke and the button is broke

  • haha,Camillus gonna be angery.

  • haha yea but nutn fancy is telling it like it is for our benefit...cool guy

  • Nutnfancy; what's your MOS in the military?

  • I have one of these. :D

  • us army spend millions of pounds on bombs tanks planes and the sorts then give there troops shite knives and other equipment baffles me!!

  • dude fyi the us army uses dollers not pounds ok

  • No, the US does not use "dollers"

  • ur just trying to put the usa down becuse u hate where ever ur from

  • this might not be true but you can buy eight blocks of premium land for same price as one bomb, but the funny thing is you can blow all the eight blocks up with that same bomb

  • I do not wish to argue with anyone, so instead I will just correct your sentence.

"[Why the][US Army] spend[s] millions of [dollars] on bombs[,] tanks[,] planes[,] and the sorts [and] then give[s] [their] troops [shit] knives and other equipment baffles me!!

  • glad you mentioned that SpyderCo actually invented the concept of the pocket clip knife. I didn't know that until earlier this year

  • hey nuthinfancy, a question from a private citizen, why dont they just give every paratrooper 50 dollars and a catalouge of a knife dealer who wants to sell the military at a reduced price? paratroopers are highly trained right? I just think they could give them some choice and keep them safer by letting them buy automatics without having to cut into the old paycheck.

  • Probably don't want to be liable for the failure of some third party knife. They want things to be standardized.

  • Thanks "PMCMANIS" and mongo's right: very dictated by regulation and mil-spec. Everyone often thinks military specification is top notch but sometimes it's just off.

  • @nutnfancy Please remember mil-spec or not.... its all built by the lowest bidder! Food for thought.

  • Actually, we didn't get any knives, other than bayonet, when I was in the 82d. Furthemore, while training is great, it's a bit overated. Someone with an interest in a subject will know more than someone with training. Just my opinion, of course, worth what you pay for it.

  • the logistics of it, but hey if your high enough rank to place orders just slip it in the pile of normal orders, normally whoever has to sign for it wont event think about, they just sign them one after another, that is how my cousin gets great gear for all his guys, one week oakleys, one week benchmades, etc. you get what im saying

  • also try the benchmade ERT-1 it also includes a glass breaker, good if you are trapped in a vehicle :)

  • no. if you want a true rescue knife try the gerber hinderer.

it has a fully serated blade, integrated glass break, fold-out seat belt cutter, and a oxygen tank wrench. that truely is a kick ass knife.

  • wow knives have come a long way

  • awesome .... so are you doing the ColdSteel catalog review next..?? thanx..

  • interesting piece of military history, if nothing else. thanks for the review.
