Aaactually...To tell you the truth, I have had horrible expiriences with nurses, doctors...surgeons...all of them. My mom's partner for ten years? Yeah, he went into cardiac arrest and stopped breathing for six minutes, turned purple...permanently brain damaged for life. The nurses there didn't give a shit about who we were or why we wanted to see him. No, I really don't think they're always nice.

To answer you "reflection on how you treat them"... He was a big guy. Real big. He had sleep apnia, but none of the doctors took that into consideration, and left him in his room after surgery. He stopped breathing, but for some reason no one saw him, no one heard his moniter. So he died. Then they shocked him back to life, now he wishes he were dead, because he can't support us anymore. I don't think we were gonna be horribly nice to anyone at that point.

When I was in for surgery, I was showered with attention because I thanked the nurses for everything. Then a guy who was miserable (he threw coffee at one nurse) was put in my shared room. I got little attention then and I don't blame them. Sleep apnia doesn't stop your heart, arteries clogged with lard does. Dad lived for 18 years after his heart attack because he wanted to.
