  • @angelchinky i think they just take the food in their mouth and then he goes in the water to swallow it . looks like this turtle took 2 bites and went in water afterwards lol.

  • nice video.. add some river rocks to your platform so your turtle wont slip heheh. he is cute ... i just made a platform last nite and the rocks on it are very tough and withstand heat and turtle abuse. to remove a rock i would have to crack the whole thing.

  • Great idea with the ramp. Did you seal it to the sides or how is it staying in place?

Also FYI, I read that RES turtles cannot produce their own saliva so they have to eat their food in water which is probably why Kame jumped back in the water after getting a big bite of food...lol

  • do you have to feed your slider in a bowl cause im new to turtle care

  • how do u make and above tank basking area pleasee help make a vid

  • this is cute. you might also want to try a shorter bowl as well since it bothers the turtles throat when trying to eat food :)

  • mine eats the same thing but in the water

  • i think i should put my sticcks in a cup and put it on the dock

  • what kind of water did you use.

  • Treated tap water.

I fill the tank with water from my kitchen sink and condition the water with TetraAqua.

  • what kind of water did you use.

  • what kind of water did you use. is it the 1 yu drink.yes or no

  • @41015747

    No.

  • wont he escape

  • @jakub426

It's a very long way down.

She does not try to jump.

  • r u sure he wont escape?

  • @jakub426

She can but she won't. :)

  • @soushirui the first time i set up my basking area my turtle got on it like fast and wanted to escape

but now my turtle will just sit on it and bask (i need a new bulb though)

  • @soushirui How did you teach your turtle to eat out side the tank

  • mine woud climb up take it and eat the reset in the water. How do I make them eat it outside of the water. And is it good to let them out to walk out of their tank because they sometimes start trying to treaten me by opening their mouth and making their eyes really tiny.

  • I started feeding her from a ramekin because she never ate reptomin that was over 10 seconds in water (very finicky, this one). She seems to prefer the ramekin over direct contact to water, perhaps in part because I fed her reptomin by hand when she was a baby RES. Plus, this way, she climbs up and grabs each reptomin (and practically feeds) herself, and I only need to clean/refill the ramekin once a week.

  • My turtle has never shown any form of aggression, but I've heard about that from other RES owners; in that case, if your turtle shows aggression, I would personally not try to "make" it do anything, lol.

  • Hhehee i like this!

    I had this same turle.

I never knew you could eat reptomin DRY.

i fed them it in the water.

    Thanks for the videO!

  • So cruel i always belive in making it more like their natural surrounding

    Thants bad!

  • what did you use to put the plexi glass together? did u use a hot glue gun or something

  • I used waterproof silicon glue. Apply heat (ie. blowtorch) to bend.

  • did you also have to cut some of it off and if so then how? because its not that easy cutting it xD

  • I used a jigsaw for cutting the material to size. It's an excellent tool to use for this purpose because you more easily maintain control, create minimal friction (between blade and material), and the blade is inexpensive to replace in case you mess it up. When choosing a blade, use a fine-toothed type (cleaner cut). Use the jigsaw at a low speed so the plexi material does not stick to the blade.

  • ok I see and would there be a big difference, if you used the silicon glue to put them together or if you screwed it together, in holding the basking area so it wont fall apart

  • I don't know how you would screw it together to the glass tank. I think using silicon glue would be simpler. Lastly, please remember to use the blowtorch to round/smooth the edges of the basking plexi-platform after you cut it so your turtle does not get hurt from the sharp cut edges.

  • I got this cage basket thing so Im re thinking about the plexiglass, I can just put the piece of wood on the bottom the cage thing on top add the platform so my turtle can climb up and a light to finish it off

  • i had a turtle called kame too but he died due to another turtle loosening a rock that was used for basking, so i have made something like this.

just wondering what have you used on the ramp to give them grip? i have wee guys now and they dont seem to want to use it :S

  • You can use sandpaper strips in a low grit (no more than 80 for little baby RES, up to about 100 for larger and older RES like my Kame) , which are very inexpensive and easy to replace. ^_^

  • if you get hotglue and cover the glass and smoothen it out troughly it gives it gripe

  • i wish mines would do that lol

  • I think you're supposed to put the pellets in the water...

I suggest either putting water in that little bowl or putting the turtle in a separate container that has water. I've been doing that with my turtles and the water stays crystal clear. =)

  • There was water in the bowl. The need to be in water probably up to the top of the shell. The best bet is to have it in a separate container and enough water so he can walk in to the food

  • nice but res turtles are not post to eat out of water thats why she carried the food in water.. very uncomfordable for her

  • I made a basking playtform for my turtles also.

  • very cuuute!!! :) 5/5
