  • i love them the first moment I hear their songs :) I'll never stop loving them

  • The last note she holds beginning at 6:44 is beautiful and the subtlety of her @6:49 is truly what made karen such an amazing vocalist. She was magic. Lastly, Stevie Wonder's version on youtube is great too. really opens up the songs soulful groove potential.

  • Always be a fav (childhood) song! So sad about Karen.

  • I love Richard's background vocals in this song!

  • Her voice is like honey! What an angel!

  • Luck you! All I can remember when I was riding around with my folks was my father singing corny old songs from the 1940's and 1950's. You know, songs like "Mares Eat Oats" and "The Elephant and the Bee". I didn't discover The Carpenters until, like, the late 1970's. When my brother learned I liked their music (and especially Karen Carpenter herself), he would forever tease me about it.

  • @slmacph That's funny. I'm not familiar with those songs. I'll have to search them after this. Yeah, a lot of people people thought they would be made fun of for liking them and probably were. They had that goody four shoes image and all of that. I never had any of their albums probably for that same reason, but I always liked them. I watch them on YouTube a lot. It's hard to believe you hadn't discovered them until that late in their career. You must have been loving you some cartoons.

  • wow! her voice is good when she's singing live!

  • Caren voice FOREVER!

  • In 1972 I was not aware of The Carpenters. I remember 1972, but was not aware of any particular act--unless it was a cartoon on TV, such as Yogi Bear or Flintstones. I think I had heard of the Beatles. Anyway, I would now love to have been in that audience, rather than watching some grainy old video (film?) clip on my iPhone.

  • @slmacph Really? I am the same age as you and I can remember when "We've only just begun" and "Close to you" came out in '70. They were all over the radio. I used to hear it in the car when my parents drove us around and knowing the name Carpenters and that they were like the biggest thing. It was on AM radio.

  • Greatest song ever :D

  • CARPENTERS/Hurting Each Other〜We've Only Just Begun モノクロ映像に時代を感じるけど、不滅の名曲には違いない…。

  • great video!!

  • WATTA Precious source from Australia!!

Vocal of Karen is graceful SO!!

I love the ending @ "ai no preluede"

Maybe,an encore had been played "FOR ALL WE KNOW"...

  • This song was 40 years ago no.7 in the world charts #carpenters

  • I wish there were more videos of her performances. She is amazing. I never grow tired of listening.

  • Wow! Just wow! I should have been there even though I was 13 at the time I should have hitched a ride from Geelong!

  • This whole concert should be "digitally re-mastered", or whatever they do these days, and released for sale. Why Richard won't do this is beyond me. This concert screams class, talent, & nostalgia.

  • @YoVaginaStinks1 First of all, I was referring to Richard not releasing the whole concert, not just one song. Second, Richard/Carpenters did not write this song, just performed it.

  • @YoVaginaStinks1 Richard Carpenter didn't even write this song. It was written by Gary Geld and Peter Udell in 1965 and many singers recorded this song. I suppose you must be lying about Richard Carpenter maybe all you want to do is hurt people!!!!

  • @YoVaginaStinks1 Oh, don't be such a dickhead. Well...TRY not to. Admit it-The Carpenters gave more to the world than you ever will, and you aren't even worthy to lick Richard's ass. :O) I'll admit, it WAS unfair of your mother to make you smell her snatch, but there's no reason to take that out on nice people like The Carpenters. :O))

  • Oh Karen... how your voice sails upon a dream.

  • What a great voice and band..

  • She looks so happy and pretty - and of course, sounds amazing. So gifted.

  • The answer is: People are fantastic because you are fantastic too!!! <3

  • simply the best.Adorable.

  • No one in the world ever had a voice as you Karen!

  • These Australian concerts only verify how great Karen was.

  • she was so pretty!!!!!

  • Karen was so polite, gracious, and humble. Such a breath of fresh air from today's "of course I deserve this" Divas

  • God sent voice.

  • she's really good.. i love the carpenters...

  • Absolutely sensational! Karen was simply The Best. We'll never see the likes of the Carpenters again.

  • Karen was much more comfortable singing behind the drums or in a duet. (And, of course, in the studio, too). While she had great confidence in her voice and drumming skill, she simply did not think she was pretty enough to be fronting a band.

  • I know its heart breaking. I was born 1975 but when I got older and heard who she was and what happened was truely heartache. She had this such amazing voice but her battle with anorexia took her life.

  • No one can replace The Carpenters. And their songs will always be remembered.

  • Karen Spirit.

The Ultimate KC's Tribute Coming soon

  • lmao the conductor is conducting like 2 people or something....but i love the carpenters wish they were still alive

  • No song ever had a better friend than Karen. Richard was a genious at taking a good song and making it great through his arraingements. Karen and Richard we love you and your music.

  • This woman is an angel, I miss her very much, there will never be another Karen Carpenter, her voice is PURE MAGIC! many new singers will come and go, But Karen's voice will outshine them all for eternity! and I love her outfit it reminds me of Snow Whtie! :) When Karens sings, she takes you into a magical world, her voice is so powerful and moving, the only other singers I can think of who do that are Streisand and Judy Garland!

  • I love the early/younger Carpenters live. She sang with such expression and the voice will never be replicated.

  • yeh its like the bread and carpenters are my life time music..they're like twins cant live without each the other..

  • What a pity that Karen died so young. She had a remarkable voice. To think she was only going to be the drummer for Richard. They don't make music like this anymore.

  • her voice gives me chills it is so beautiful.

  • Very Awesome!!

  • i love all the carpenter songs

  • Hey...Richard Carpenter had a great voice too. His background vocals in these tunes are superb.

  • No. They should have turned down Richard's mike. His voice interfered with Karen's.

  • I totally agree! Richard's background vocals were terrific!!

  • @oakdude1 yes, he was great...

  • I love Carpenters man....

  • Absolutely right, a great arrangement by Richard. Great timing by the band especially the drummer.

  • She still gives me goosebumps, (and I'm a normal guy), the perfect mix of the an incredible voice and beauty. With Richard's fantastic arrangement...there will never be another Carpenters or anything close to them..

  • I wish Kate Bush would get into these songs!!!

  • Without sounding cynical, HOW on earth can anyone who listens to music not know Karen Carpenter had died? She died from a cardiac arrest, a complication of anorexia. What a voice, what a loss!

  • They don't know because she died a very long time ago. You're typing to a generation that wasn't even around when Karen lived.

  • @TomZentra

get a life, you think only 20 year old's have computer's?

  • wow..so nostalgic!brings back good,old memories!i grew up listening to her songs!

her songs are actually hard to sing but she performs without an effort!I wonder how she was able to do it!

  • Omg has she died? I didnt know. Was this recent?

  • She died in february 1983.

  • such a lovely perfect voice

    RIP Karen

  • A treasure!

  • my eyes fill with tears when i hear that ... so beautiful and sad

  • Small stage, big sound, huge talent.

36 years later we're still looking at these old vids in awe, wondering and aching at what could have been . . . . . . .

  • if only she realized just how hot she was. and that voice is just incomparable. without a doubt the best, sweetest most natural voice i've ever heard

  • Karen will always be on "top of the world" ! Wonderful Voice! I wish I could have seen her live ! but I was too young then... Thanks for this very nice video !

  • brilliant.. I'm so glad we had her

  • This is my favorite concert video, 1972, Australia, right before the anorexia and all the other issues. This is Karen Carpenter at the height of her career. The voice, the drums, everything, this is it. And Richard wasn't exactly a slouch, he's a genius.

  • ela e demais

  • Karen speaks like a young girl, but she sings like a mature woman.

  • THE BEST OF THE BEST

  • Great Voice! Great Singer! Great all!

  • she looked her best at this stage of her life

  • she most definitely did

  • her voice was incredible!!

  • when i enter heaven....kc will be leading the chorus....

  • Her voice is bird in the paradise! Oh my God! she makes me confortable to believe in love... is she a godness? Diva? she belongs a unique, romantic and perfec voice! So lovely! Ah!

  • She sounds just as good live as on her recordings!! I feel very fortunate to have seen the Carpenters live when I was a kid! What a soulful voice she had!!

  • @Leeanneyfanny I saw them on there first tour! fantastic

  • I don't know if it was the drummer or what but it had Richard real distracted at the beginning

  • It looks like the "conductor" had Richard real concerned at the beginning

  • Who is the drummer? Is 1972 when Karen was asked by Richard to front the band? When did Cubby Obrian become the drummer?

  • Although she was insecure she was still an AMAZING performer. She had a great stage presence and it's too bad she didn't realize how great she was.

  • Karen Carpenter was a very attractive woman....her softness and femininity are very sexy.

  • To me she is never quite comfortable with herself. Shes not natural. Its a shame becasue she was a beautifiul songbird, I don't think she liked herself though.

  • shrink2003: Interesting observation. Obviously, she had self-image issues; but her moves on stage are those of a singer, not a performer — her talent was in her voice, not in her limbs. Some artists can combine both; but most can't. Madonna and Janet dislocate themselves on stage while giving us a minimum of musical talent; with Karen, you just have to close your eyes and let your heart soar along. :)

  • so sad, brought so much to so many with her incredible talent, but she was so sad inside, her personal life - & unfortunately, her personal pain, made her music absolutely the best....thats why, again unfortunately, we lose our best, and their heart....their soul

  • I'll never get sick listening to that anglic voice. She's my all time favourite female singer. Richard should release more live performances of her. Heard that he had all her live performances recorded but did not want to release them.

  • she always sang songs effortless..she's so damn good!!

  • Th e song Hurting Each Other is a bit hard to sing but Karen sang it so effortless.

  • hi , i'm from argentina , and this is a great video with two amazing performances .

    tank you for this pearl.

the voice of kares sounds like an angel.

    just... beautyful.

  • This video is an important and priceless historical recording of the late Karen Carpenter. It nicely reveals her onstage personality and her singing talent at the time of her prime.

  • A voice like Karen's...so sweet and pure...comes around once in a lifetime.

  • quantumpower, you are an ass, shut your pie hole. siroptimistic, you are 100% correct, she was one of the greats of all time.

  • why did she die?

  • She died from Anorexia.

  • Nothing else to say but Perfect!!!!!

Karen is still dearly missed all over the globe, and her voice, her memories will last and remain in our hearts forever!!!!

  • I'm going to home in on YouTube on the dashboard monitor while on the roads... heck, I've stopped listening to CDs of todays but this is the comeback worth searching and recovering all those beautiful singers!!! She's my fav back in the late 60s and mid 70s.

  • marvelous soooooooo gifted so talented.how i wish she knew that.

  • What a voice! never saw her do the complete "hurting each other" live before. what a treat! thanks so much for posting this!

  • marvelous as always karen u r the best.

  • Absolute perfection.

  • Sure a sad loss , I was 3 when this concert was on , They both had the best harmony's! John

  • The Carpenters=Harmony Heaven. Heaven was definitely missing an Angel when Karen was born.

  • I've got the whole concert video on my PC, and this is one of my favorite parts. Karen just looks so healthy and fabulous, at the peak of her extraordinary power. Great post!

  • this is great! thanks very much for posting

  • Unbelieveable! -- I always wondered if there was more to this Aussie concert footage because We've Only Just Begun was missing -- it makes sense that Hurting Each Other would be the last song (it probably had just been released) and We've Only Just Begun would be their encore -- much like it was when I saw them live in concert back in the day... Many MANY thanks for posting this! (Oh when will Richard see the light and release these on DVD?)

  • Unfortunately, Richard has stated that he has a low opinion of live concert footage....

  • It's hard to believe that Karen and Richard Carpenter became famous in the era of black and white television. When I was a kid (and I'm younger than Karen) in the 1960's, my family had a small black and white TV with only 3 channels -- ABC, NBC, and CBS! There weren't any cell phones, and if you wanted to make a phone call, you had to dial on a rotary phone that had a curly cord attached to it. My family had one phone in the kitchen, so my parents chaperoned all my calls from friends/boyfriends.
