The US Navy is obviously the most powerful these days, but in terms if human history, the difference between the Royal Navy and its nearest competitors back in the days of the British Empire was far greater than the difference between the USN and its nearest competitors today. The world was literally Britain's bitch. The tiny island made the world its plaything thanks to its navy, and there was nothing anybody could do about it for a very long time.
@ptpt1 You are right, but I think that's a somewhat dubious distinction that I wouldn't necessarily be proud of. The strategic goal of the U.S. Navy today is far more positive, as it isn't trying to impose the will of an anti-democratic, imperialistic regime on the rest of the world, which is what the Royal Navy was effectively doing in its heyday. I love Great Britain, so please don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to bash them at all, but history is what it is, whether we like it or not.
You can't call it the "most powerful navy the world has even seen" the Royal Navy was the most powerful... it's relative... yes it is the most powerful navy now but as I have just said it's relative to the time/era, 1760-1950 the Royal Navy was the most powerful... Don't get me wrong the US and the USN is good and I respect the fact that you are now the most powerful, it just seems a little arrogant to call it the most powerful the world has even seen.
@MrXray2011 I know it sounds like arrogance, but that is reality. Yes, the Royal Navy was the most powerful in the world in its time, and so was the Spanish Armada. However, in terms of force projection abilities, technological capabilities, and raw firepower, the U.S. Navy is the most powerful in human history. Other navies had those qualities too, but not at the same level. I apologize if this sounds like bragging, but that is absolutely not my intention. I'm just stating facts.
Yeah, I see your point, the USN is the most powerful now and the Spanish Armada was never that powerful, we defeated them with a smaller, less organised Navy.

@sloan9787 It's the prototype for a new stealth destroyer that the Navy has been working on for quite a few years now. It features the same stealth technology used by the F-117 Nighthawk and the B-2 Spirit, and will presumably feature many times the combat power that a regular destroyer projects currently. The Navy has been experimenting with many new technologies that should have a big effect on naval warfare in the coming years....Thanks for watching!
@MrIke112 Yes. John McCain, the 2008 GOP presidential candidate, was also a Navy fighter pilot that got shot down over Vietnam and spent 5 years of his life as a prisoner of war. Jimmy Carter, John Kerry, John F. Kennedy, and George H.W. Bush also served in the U.S. Navy very honorably, and that's why I included them in this video. Ronald Reagan was a great supporter of naval supremacy, and he aimed to build a 600-ship Navy during his presidency. A nuclear aircraft carrier is named after him.
It takes all branches of the military to keep America safe. God bless all that serve in military. Army takes care of ground battles, marines do the initial fight, airforce clear the skies, coastguard guards our boarders, navy controls sea lanes and they all work and help each other at any time. Germany and japan found that out in WW2
There are only 2 Western nations which can ensure the way we live our lives in the 21st century remain unchanged, they are the core of NATO, global democracy and the Western world, the mighty USA and her closest ally Great Britian, while 1, the US continues to do so with valour and integrity the other , the UK allows political point scoring bk home to damage its abilitys to project power abroad, im British and believe we must protect our way of life and therefore our military superiorty!
@TheCharlie359 hey Im an American and I respect your branch as I respect my branch. I hope nothing happens to both of our branches. They'll always help together and forget bout the Revolutionary War.
@personalagenda22 oh yeah, what about ernest king the guy incharge of the US Navy, who lost millions of tons of shipping to the germans because he thought the canadian and british convoy systems wer stupid, so he just send his ships out by themselfs... even eisenhower was quoted in saying, " ww2 would have ended sooner if somebody had shot ernest king"
@rbensonmtp Why is that? The man served our Country honorably in the Navy, regardless of what his detractors might want you to believe. His picture deserves to be here.
vietnam need your help, vietnam need your help, we need you to keep spratly islands and paracel islands, we all know they are belong to VIETNAM, please! hand in hand with us
Thank you to all vets, I am grateful to all who have served and also for the ones who have paid the ultimate price, both of my grandfathers were in ww2 and were lucky enough to come home. I am greatly ashamed at what our "government" is doing to our armed forces now. Thanks again and have a good holiday.
That is the prototype for a new destroyer with stealth technology. It is part of the Navy program of research and development for the future. It does look weird, doesn't it? However, it is supposed to be exponentially more capable and lethal than the average destroyer currently in service.
I would think it would be very useful if you know how to swim before you go, but since that's not my branch of service, I can't tell you for sure if swimming is a requirement for navy boot camp or not. Even if it's not a requirement for enlisting in the Navy, I would think that knowing how to swim may be mandatory once you're in. In the Army you had to know how to swim, and if you didn't know, someone taught you. We did quite a bit of training in the water. You may want to talk to a recruiter!
@armyveteran101st yes swimming is a requirement in bootcamp. im in the navy and if you cant swim, they will hold you back however many days in bottcamp until you pass the qualifications for a third class swimmer.
@warrages1 I thought so, but I wasn't completely sure if knowing how to swim was a requirement for enlistment eligibility. It wasn't for Army Basic Training, but we did a fair amount of training in or near the water once we got to our permanent duty stations, so as a career Soldier I was required to know how to swim. We also did some of our PT in the water, usually when we had just come back from field exercises and we were on recovery mode. If you're in the Navy, I thank you for your service!
@armyveteran101st yea, third class swimmer is easy stuff. basically the basic jump off a tower, swim to the otherside, and prone float for five minutes and learn how to pack air in your coveralls. and youre welcome!
@rusttrail3 maybe if you live in Europe.... Germany would have never been able to support an invasion over here nor did they ever have any plans to do so.
@rusttrail3 really? the canadian navy engaged in combat operations against germany in the atlantic for over 26 months before america threw a punch, despite being dozens of times smaller then the US navy... by the time US joined, over 80% of the german military was fighting on the eastern front, and canada and britian were no longer under major threat of invasion. this was the only time ever when germany could have taken over, and usa did next to nothing until the battle was already won
@101andrewj i didnt say we where the first or did the most i was talking about a combined effort from all parties in general, but then again the united states are always the bad guys, so have a great day there buddy.
@101andrewj That's an uninformed and prejudiced statement. That's not the way things went down, and I know the history very well. You're one of those who want to demean my country's participation in the war because you're straight up anti-American, and that's just plain stupid. WW2 was a joint effort, but the truth is that without the U.S. the Allies would have had a much tougher time against Germany and Japan, and the war would have lasted much longer and taken many more lives. That's a fact.
@armyveteran101st they couldn't defeat Germany, because Britain ran out of gold they used to fund the war.Churchill ask ths U.S. for money, because the U.S. was neutral ,they came up with lend lease they gave England 34 billion dollars.Although the U.S. was neutral we fought German navy in 1941 to protect British convoys.9 months latter the U.S. entered the war.
@101andrewj hahaha your really funny. Actually I have all facts from the US Navy videos and books and the US Navy had to protect the Atlantic coast. Canada helped but we did a lot of the defending.
