I contacted him through e-mail in order to tell him about the video and he did write me back a short response. A week later I was contacted by his producer telling me about Penn's video response. I just figured he was going to mention/reference my video. I didn't think the whole damn thing would be about my video. And yeah, it's fuckin' awesome! Totally made my year.
In a capitalist state, it's patently absurd to limit commerce, unless there's unarguable evidence that harm is befalling some party. There are too many laws on the books regarding victimless crimes.
Selling is legal. Voting is legal. Selling your vote should be legal.
It's done every day behind closed doors in Washington DC, under the auspices of campaign financing and lobbying.
I don't vote anymore, because any vote w/o money attached has ZERO value. This clinches my opinion.
Agreed, but I will require you to send me a couple thousand dollars first :). The sort of cool thing about this vid is that it was completely and totally no-budget. Also, there was only about 72 hours from concept to production.
Considering that it is already the case I would suspect that it is illegal simply as a part of the soap opera illusion the votes make a difference and to ensure that those without power cannot somehow go making money for nothing through selling this phantasmal vote they have.
Well, I think what you did is a creative way to make a point. On the other hand, decisions made today are mad off of how much political capitol they hold.
I'm sure if it were legal to sell votes, there will be a large chunk of people who do it for profit. It's almost the same idea.
I understand that the vote isn't yours if you can't sell it, but a voting isn't a physical posession. It's a right.
For those curious, she (Eileen Weisinger) played the female soldier (Ramirez) in the opening scene where Robert Downey Jr is seen in a Humvee alongside a troupe of soldiers in a caravan. Also, she is very pretty.
Perhaps it will inspire skeptical enquiry, which was the whole point. And, in my opinion, skeptical enquiry is the cure for what ails humanity. (Every little bit helps)
I love honesty, that's why this video has to be in my favorites. I think it's a stupid law, and you should have the right to sell your vote if you think neither candidate is qualified.
It's a stupid law. People are hypocrites. They pretend as if democracy is somehow the end all be all of running a country, and therefor view your vote as almost holy. In reality, there is no seperating currency arguement from any other arguement and trying to forbidd currency exchange for voting is both immoral and not very practically enforcable.
Hey, you guys are smart. I think in two years I might sell my vote. I can think of a way to do it so that the law would have difficulty prosecuting me.
MY VOTE IS FOR SALE $ Can I get in trouble for a T shirt ??

Damn, that polling worker was hot!
Also, you need a wind-filter on the camera.

Madlib? You mean paraphrase?
RichoRosai 3 years ago
Actually they changed the word "sex" to "vote"... hence it's a Madlib, not a paraphrase.

Why isn't selling voting legal? Because then the one with the most money would win. Even more than now. Isn't that pretty apparent? O_o

Is it already the case that the one with the most money wins even more now than he does now? That makes no sense.

Actually, if you look her up, you might just notice her in the first five minutes of Iron Man.

I don't get it. What's the point? What do you gain out of selling/giving away your vote?
Atheismrulez 3 years ago
Because noone should have the right to tell us we can't.
previewreview 3 years ago
So basically, just for the sake of it, right?
There's no benefit nor will it change anything, so why are you doing it?
