I used the razer megalodon 7.1 detector (hold "mic sens" for 10 secs) and it showed that it only used the bass and forward speakers even though it sounded as if it was surround.

Youtube does not support surround, but there are many high quality headsets that have VIRTUAL surround. So even if it's stereo it make it sound more like surround. So quit laughing at people who can afford better audio equipment than you do.

Youtube doesn't support surround sound. The way you CAN hear surround sound is through virtual surround software.

On my 5.1 speaker set, the back speakers are NOT playing anything while I play this movie. That is because my speakers work with straight up surround and youtubes videos are in 2.1

My headset does play surround, because my sound card has Dolby Surround software which virtually turns my stereo headset into a surround headset. If you hear surround sound you likely have software enabled

That's because you're only getting 2 channels, while the sound is traveling around though seven. You're only getting the first and last parts with stereo.

Damn, turning on and off the 2-channel surround sound encoding makes a HUGE difference. Having it off makes this really bad sounding and you can actually hear one side completely shut off when the sound gets to the other sound. With it on you can hear it actually spinning around you and going from left to rear left to back to ear right to right, etc. Absolutely brilliant.

Every headset have a subwoofer in each ear, and NO your headset cannot do real 7.1 :) My soundcard can however decode 7.1 like the soundcard in the g35

some receivers have automatic MAtrix Decoding where it takes 2 channel sources and make then 5 channel. your receiver might be leading you to believe that it is 5.1 or 7.1 when it is actually 2.1 that is being decoded by a matrix mode into surround sound
