In my opinion, owczarek podhalański or Polish Tatra Sheepdog should be smaller than the specimens represented in this video. As I recall, they should share the size of Grea pyrenees.
The dog shown here has the body structure similar to Caucasian in Russian standard.
In fact their knickname in Russia is Volkadov, which means 'wolf crusher'. They mean it, unbelievably powerful dog...very ancient and finely tuned for his task to protect - they do not herd, they guard & live mostly on their own with their livestock charges. There are stories of CO's protecting their livestock for over a year trapped in the snowy mountains - with all accounted for + dozens of new births after the ordeal. The emaciated and battle scarred CO's did their job.
Oh and a Pit Bull would most likely win handily against a CO in a pit fight. No doubt there is no other breed that can match a Pit for pit fighting. Many breeds could beat a CO in that environment.
A CO, however would absolutely destroy anything that threatens his property or charges (family, other pets), including a Pit Bull or several. Absolutely fearless they feel no pain and are very powerful and strong - they charge to not just kill but crush the threat, rip it to shreds.

Caucasians have black snout. and Podhalans may have less fur in warmer climate/season, in winter they have this ok maybe not white but creamy bigger fur. All in 1 colour. Caucasians are generally/genetically bigger but podhalans get often that big too

Wen police raid dog fights there's only ever one breed of dog they bring out, pitbulls, no other dog, that's a fact. A shepherd doesn't know more about dog fighting, the big dogs were bred to guard from wolves, a wolf won't risk getting hurt so they don't fight to the death, it's a 2 min fight and the wolf runs off. Big dogs fight hard for 5 mins then they give up. Pitbull keep going.

wolves are way smarter than dogs. For instance o wolf would attract the attention of CO's and the overconfident dogs would chase them only to find themselves in an ambush. They can kill only lonely wolves but these wolves are extra cautious an know how to take care of themselves and very rarely would try to attack domestic animals. I also think that the wild pure killer instinct of the wolves gives them an edge and an unpredictable outcome against a dog.
@UltraFighter18 Um actually they wouldn't leave the flock to chase the Wolf because the CO has no prey drive but they have tremendous defense drive though so would grab the Wolf when it went into the flock to get a sheep.

And as I said the wolf would trick the caucasian into chasing him. And I'm not talking about long distances. One or 2 CO's would always fell into this trap.
@UltraFighter18 Dude I have talked to people who actually use these breeds as flock guards in Eastern Europe and Central Asia plus I actually own 2 Ovcharka and the will not leave their charges and will only react violently when the threat is practically on the flock if the threat hasn't heeded their warning barks at which point the dogs placed with the flock will act as a team to take on and deal with that threat. I know these dogs I own 2 and have talked to many experts about them.

it would take two C.O's to over come a wolf, coz wolves are 36 - 40 inchs at the shoulders, and 170 lbs + thats just about the same height as a C.O and how would you know theirsn ot more then one wolf ? C.O x 4 would be good for a protecter on an estate.

They are very large indeed, and would be the only wolf who could even put up a fight. BUT, don't forget, the CO is a thick muscled bruiser, the wolf, more tall and lanky and built for endurance not so much power. Also remember wolves have weak nerves because wild animals with hard nerves die. Dogs rely on us, so they can afford to be more brazen.

A good working line GSD out with sheep can keep a lone wolf back, most herders use 2 or 3 though, which is enough to push a medium sized wolf pack back long enough for you to get to a gun, or even to send them running. A CO is a bruiser, no single wolf is going to take a CO in full on fight drive.

So many myths. A wolf fighting a CO has no chance, even if he really wanted the fight, the CO is more powerfully built. The wolf is a distance runner, the CO a bruiser. 2 wolves will take MOST single dogs if they both wanted the fight. Wolves, luckily, are weak nerved animals who prefer flight over fight...they evolved around humans and bear...animals with whom they stand no chance of facing, thus evolved to not be brave and survive. NO dog can defeat a black bear, much less a Grizzly. PERIOD.

Wen police raid dog fights there's only ever one breed of dog they bring out, pitbulls, no other dog, that's a fact. A shepherd doesn't know more about dog fighting, the big dogs were bred to guard from wolves, a wolf won't risk getting hurt so they don't fight to the death, it's a 2 min fight and the wolf runs off. Big dogs fight hard for 5 mins then they give up. Pitbull keep going.

wolves are way smarter than dogs. For instance o wolf would attract the attention of CO's and the overconfident dogs would chase them only to find themselves in an ambush. They can kill only lonely wolves but these wolves are extra cautious an know how to take care of themselves and very rarely would try to attack domestic animals. I also think that the wild pure killer instinct of the wolves gives them an edge and an unpredictable outcome against a dog.

@UltraFighter18 Dude I have talked to people who actually use these breeds as flock guards in Eastern Europe and Central Asia plus I actually own 2 Ovcharka and the will not leave their charges and will only react violently when the threat is practically on the flock if the threat hasn't heeded their warning barks at which point the dogs placed with the flock will act as a team to take on and deal with that threat. I know these dogs I own 2 and have talked to many experts about them.

Wolves usually avoid human when they sense dogs they know human are around they don't fear dog they fear humans. The ideal situation I mention is when wolves ignore that fear and face the dogs without human intervention. And this happens quite often you simply can't deny that or caucasian dogs would be useless.

@DogSoldier011 You have a different subspecies of wolf...Canis lupus arctos...they're the largest of all subspecies. They can get to around 175lbs. They are very large indeed, and would be the only wolf who could even put up a fight. BUT, don't forget, the CO is a thick muscled bruiser, the wolf, more tall and lanky and built for endurance not so much power. Also remember wolves have weak nerves because wild animals with hard nerves die. Dogs rely on us, so they can afford to be more brazen.

A good working line GSD out with sheep can keep a lone wolf back, most herders use 2 or 3 though, which is enough to push a medium sized wolf pack back long enough for you to get to a gun, or even to send them running. A CO is a bruiser, no single wolf is going to take a CO in full on fight drive.

So many myths. A wolf fighting a CO has no chance, even if he really wanted the fight, the CO is more powerfully built. The wolf is a distance runner, the CO a bruiser. 2 wolves will take MOST single dogs if they both wanted the fight. Wolves, luckily, are weak nerved animals who prefer flight over fight...they evolved around humans and bear...animals with whom they stand no chance of facing, thus evolved to not be brave and survive. NO dog can defeat a black bear, much less a Grizzly. PERIOD.

@Rustaveli2k7 Some guy just told me size doesn't matter, a Black Widow can kill an Elephant...first off, that's not true at all. Most adults can survive a Black Widow bite...an Elephant wouldn't even notice. Secondly, if size doesn't matter, they wouldn't have weight classes in prize fighting (as well as dog fighting).

Caucasian ovcharka, Turkish Kangal, Spanish mastiff and Alabai (Central asian ovcharka) are the most powerful dog breeds of the world..If I had a kennel I would breed this 4 dogs..

one of these dogs is enough to protect sheep from 6-7 wolves for sure, so 2 of these dogs would take out a grizzly for sure and that's it.

@Flick88 Are u stupid or what? Wolfs are scared and shy. They dont wnat to fight and run. Some LGD fanatics bring wolf on chain and let 2 CAOs on him. So he canot defend himself and they can kill him. Thats how this stupid legends were created. If wolf wnats to fight no dog stand a chance. And grizly is 3 m heigh when stands up. He will kill any dog. And you must have a large band of dogs to make him run but no dog is able to kill a grizly. Even your CO cant deal with it!
