Applause! I am very respectable of his talent and dedication to his art form.
However, I appologize for being very critical of any woman sounding voice singing this Male aria. It will never sound correct to me, with out the fat in the voice that is unique to the man's voice.
His pitch is prefect and obviously, the notes are incredibly solid in a way I didn't expect. But I'd really like him to try the role of Oberon instead of singing these roles up an octave. He would be quite good at that.
@tyty69tyty69 TOTALMENTE DE ACUERDO ESTE ARIA PARA MI GUSTO EL REY DE LA INTERPRETACION ES LUCIANO PAVAROTTI FUE LA HOSTIA Y LE DABA UN ENCANTO Y FUERZA ESPECIAL
E su Josh Groban, Katherine Jenkins, i pupazzi animati de Il Divo. Cioè su tutto l'operatic pop ( o poop?)
if he wants to be a falsettist, fair play to him. its an aesthetic choice. but why not sing music from the literature appropriate for this voice type? there is plenty of it, and beautiful, at that. this just shows poor taste and a desire to cash in.
@thegnomeidentity He isn't a falsettist. He, Radu Marian, and Michael Maniaci are a rare breed in that they sing in soprano ranges using their natural chest/modal voice. Okamoto has said his voice is "like a contrabass with violin strings", meaning he is a big guy with huge lungs, but his vocal cords are very thin. Marian and Maniaci are similar cases, from what I understand.
@thegnomeidentity If you want to hear a falsettist sing this piece, listen to Greg Pritchard sing it. Be warned, he is Welsh, and his Italian pronunciation is poor, from what I know.
He's amazing in so far as he's singing in the style of a castrato (spelling?) -- without the benefit of the operation. To stretch their range tenors will often vocalize way high into their head voice, so any tenor will tell you it's very difficult for a man to create the sounds he's hitting full voice. Viva la difference -- or however you say that.
it's because you don't understand it. countertenors and male sopranos are quite popular but there are people that think they're weird because they simply dont understand them.
@tomcane8 Sorry to correct you, but modern male sopranos and countertenors are a total anachronism. They try to replace castrati but they don't even go near to what they were thought to be.
@MisterPapageno again, it's your opinion. it's quite simply saying one voice type is better than another. At the end of the day, countertenor/male soprano is a voice type and it's a popular voice type that has worked. Castrati may have the same range but the tones are different. there's no correcting any1, it's opinion. everything i've sed here is factual, yours is just opinion.
@tomcane8 First of all, I am not talking about personal taste. So if you personally like castrati, it's a matter of yours and I can't say anything; it's your taste! But saying it is correct that male sopranos and countertenors sing castrati (and in this video different repertoire) parts its a total lack of musical culture!
just a question... Do you know any critical study about castrati?
From your answers I would say you don't. I do advice you to read Babier's "The World of the Castrati"
@MisterPapageno you're getting both defensive and offensive. all i sed was that castrati is a different voice type to countertenor/male soprano. The ranges are similar but the tones are different. You were critisizing the countertenor voice type because you believe that castrati is better. you don't need to get smart or confrontational.
@tomcane8 I am only defending a historical issue against the mistification that countertenors do and from the public that wants them. Then, taste is totally personal and subjective.
I would be honest: I've never heard an operatic castrato (Moreschi was a church cantore) so my supposition is only based on what ancient witnesses report.
@MisterPapageno at the end of the day, they're both just voice types. nowadays, it's about the tone and quality of voice. Some people may prefer the tone of a countertenor to castrati or the other way around. No voice type is better than another, it's opinion. For example, I'd rather listen to a mezzo over a soprano or a baritone over a tenor because I think they have richer voices.
@tomcane8 they surely are voice type but I truly think there is something you haven't really focused on: that is correctness! Historically modern countertenors are totally incorrect. Than (as I have repeated it 1000 times) if you prefer them to other voices, it's your personal opinion and taste. But if you mind, for me the historical issue is absolutely more correct and relevant than your irrelevant taste
@MisterPapageno you're doing it again, you're getting offensive and confrontational and it comes across as arrogant. Wot are u talking about anyway, why are countertenors incorrect? you spent all this time saying how im wrong but you haven't actually explained yourself. im all ears.
@tomcane8 Well, I am not supposed to explain it given that it is history of music you have to know for the assertion you do. I kindly advice you to read Wikipedia's "Countertenors" which is overall interesting
