  • Thanks for posting.

  • Wow... what a production! Bach really was a musical genius.

  • does anyone know the specific name of the instrument at 0:32?

  • @Mogansss it's just a baroque trumpet

  • Thank you for the text. Gracias por poner la letra. Danke für den Text

  • Bach and Harnoncourt, perfect combination !!!

  • It looks as though Harnoncourt is throwing notes up into the air at the very beginning and being jovial about it. Love it!!

  • Bach... the greatest composer - and all in spite of those dreadful doctrines which motivated him, inspired him and informed his music. Glad and humbled to belong to the same race of such superlative minds :-)))))

  • I thought the conductor was giving the middle finger salute at 3.35. Can you imagine that - in a Bach cantata?

  • Amazing piece of music so thank you for posting this

  • Watching the expressions on the conductor's face is half the fun. :)

  • Incredible! Stupendous!!

  • Beautifully presented - Bach is the master and this is particularly joyous, perfect for the holiday!

  • sehr lebendige interpretation, genau so sollte barock interpretiert werden.

  • I can't get enough of the first 20 seconds of the introduction.

  • What are the people sitting inside of the group of the singer doing? They don't sing a word !

  • @skyhacker6 Those are the soloists. They are saving themselves for their pieces so they can give the their best performance.

  • I love this cantata, the performance, and the baroque bows! Thanks for posting!

  • i think this clip had adopted baroque's tuning

i could not get use of this when i heard mainly 440 tunings

  • I have been smitten by this performance and interpretation. No other performance captures my imagination and my heart as grippingly as this does. A truly beautiful and thoroughly enveloping piece. Thank you, so much, for posting this.

  • I'm SO BLESSED... ! I was born and heared the Bach...by mr. Harnoncourt...Thanks !

  • The best performance by Herr Harnoncourt next to his and Herr Leonhardt's recording of the complete cantata cycle.

Some of these latest performers of "historically informed" performances can take a lesson from this one. Not overly fast but a normal tempo, and forget about the "one voice to a part" nonsense.

  • Absolutely celestial! Pure BACH!!!!! Only Germans can play like that.

  • What language?

  • @MrJackanthony :

    German

  • @gjroest Thanks

  • Relaxed, Precise, Joyfull, Adorable!

  • a quite traditionnal reading...

  • Can you actually prove Bach would have resented women singing in the Choir, considering their feminine voices add a considerable amount of expressiveness to the Cantata ? By the way you can consider that they Highlight male voices by contrast, and be all the more happy with your curious exclusive love of manhood or manliness...

Mind you, Bach seems to have held women dearly in his heart : just think of what He wrote for Anna-Magdalena ...

  • historically proven would you find what i stated as correct. Liturgical Doctirne and Dogma, even in the Protestant Faith, did dicate the absence of Women. You have some strong arguements of which do have some rights of Recognition... beispiel... Women Voices do highlight Male Voices, and in ´´Contrast´´ Women Voices are quite beautiful for an Aria. Yet, Bach wrote these Kantaten for Male Voices, thus to be accurately performed, nothing less should be executed.

  • Thanks a lot for your reply and explanation : I will ask my doctor who is a really keen and true Protestant about all this as he loves Bach. I believe you and do not question your historical comment. Still the question of what Bach would "accept" or not is another matter.

I first wrote you a furious comment auf Deutsch, aber es kunde nicht abgehen ...

    Aufwieder...

  • Hello again !

And I suggested ... killing all and every woman if they are "too many" LOL !!

Well, you can see I do like this rendering of C147 !!

Still here is my favourite interpretation for you :

Bach - Cantata 147.1 , put on the Internet by

    "The30YearOldVirgin" .

Tell me whether you and how you appreciate it ...

    Aufwiederlesen !

  • Sorry : You have to take away the ".1" !!

    Just type :

    Bach Cantata 147 The30YearOldVirgin .

Hope you will like it ...

    Aufwiederlesen !!

  • i am frightfully sorry, yet i was unable this Cantata find. Women are most illustriously incredible, of which i claim complete adoration there upon. To ever offend someone would be completely unacceptable from my fastidious Pen, thus i extend a thousand and one Apologies if the bluntful original Comment i did issue caused thus.

  • Thank you for your reply. Your apologies are welcome, thank you, still there was one good thing in what you wrote : I came to learn the word "schändlich", so it increased my german vocabulary LOL !!

As to the Cantata, I wrote you another message which you apparently missed . What you must precisely type is :

    Bach Cantata 147 The30OldYearOldVirgin

and not what I mistakenly wrote.

In addition you will see pictures and photos of monuments in Germany, really interesting...

    Aufwiederlesen !!

  • You cannot say things like that. In other order, or you want to make sopranos from basses or you are so silly. Think about it.

  • ignorant Comment old Boy, study your Historybooks instead of speaking unfoundingly.

  • Women are incredible and blissfully charming.

  • not dick-riding or anything but NICE name u got there, had to say it 9 times to get it right. sounds physically destructive to me. peace

  • A Cantata contains Oratorios, musical instruments, Arias, Recitatives, and Choruses. Thank you for this Vid. =] helped me understand what a cantata sounds like.

  • A magnificent piece

  • QUE MUSICA TAN HERMOSA SIN DUDA

  • Just flawless divine perfection!!!! In general very few peoplecan perform Bach though his genius sounds seem to be simple but this performance captures the spirit of bibilical eternity and everlasting joy so vividly that nobody can say nothing except-perfection. Maestro Harnoncourt is a true Master of Music

  • Great and Nobl performance. Only germans can be so tremorously delicate with the precious fabric of Bach's harmony.

  • I know of a beautiful Eskimo version....

  • musiccritic, i'm german, and i do appreciate your liking of germans' musical endeavors, but let's not stretch it. musical talent is not tied together with nationality. there are orchestras and choirs in every country that perform at this level.

i guess the one advantage that germans may have in this piece is that the singers have a better grip on the language....

  • premiered between 1729-30, this is perhaps the most popular cantata composed by that inmortal genius Johann Sebastian, simple yat attonishingly beautiful, long live Bach

  • Bach remains immortal! Thanks for posting this wonderful piece!

  • This is wonderful! Thank you for posting.

  • I love 1:22 lolzz hahaha very nice rendition!!!

  • Fabulous. When you compare this with the Gardiner recordings, even his recent Soli Deo Gloria recordings it's like night and day.

  • So good it hurts.... tremendous interpretation!

  • Brillant! Both, Bach and Nikolaus are amazing:)

  • Thank you for posting this cantata! I like the music and this interpretation. Good idea to show the text of this song also.

  • Thanks all of you. We share the admiration for this music and its composer.

  • @gjroest Are they singing in german austrian or some other Language? please do not scorn me :)

  • @MrJackanthony they're singing the original in german, though it's of course a bit old-fashioned, from bach's time.

  • Totally DIVINE!

  • un placer

  • Es ist eine sehr nette Interpretation.

  • This is my favorit Bach's cantata. I really enjoy all of this cantata. Thanks for your posting!!

    Antonio
