Bach... the greatest composer - and all in spite of those dreadful doctrines which motivated him, inspired him and informed his music. Glad and humbled to belong to the same race of such superlative minds :-)))))
I have been smitten by this performance and interpretation. No other performance captures my imagination and my heart as grippingly as this does. A truly beautiful and thoroughly enveloping piece. Thank you, so much, for posting this.
The best performance by Herr Harnoncourt next to his and Herr Leonhardt's recording of the complete cantata cycle.
Some of these latest performers of "historically informed" performances can take a lesson from this one. Not overly fast but a normal tempo, and forget about the "one voice to a part" nonsense.

completely wrong... Bach would never have allowed this... Women in the Choir... das ist schändlich. Frauen sollten nicht diese Musik singen. Diese Musik sollte immer völlig männlich sein.
Can you actually prove Bach would have resented women singing in the Choir, considering their feminine voices add a considerable amount of expressiveness to the Cantata ? By the way you can consider that they Highlight male voices by contrast, and be all the more happy with your curious exclusive love of manhood or manliness...
Mind you, Bach seems to have held women dearly in his heart : just think of what He wrote for Anna-Magdalena ...
historically proven would you find what i stated as correct. Liturgical Doctirne and Dogma, even in the Protestant Faith, did dicate the absence of Women. You have some strong arguements of which do have some rights of Recognition... beispiel... Women Voices do highlight Male Voices, and in ´´Contrast´´ Women Voices are quite beautiful for an Aria. Yet, Bach wrote these Kantaten for Male Voices, thus to be accurately performed, nothing less should be executed.
Thanks a lot for your reply and explanation : I will ask my doctor who is a really keen and true Protestant about all this as he loves Bach. I believe you and do not question your historical comment. Still the question of what Bach would "accept" or not is another matter.
I first wrote you a furious comment auf Deutsch, aber es kunde nicht abgehen ...
i am frightfully sorry, yet i was unable this Cantata find. Women are most illustriously incredible, of which i claim complete adoration there upon. To ever offend someone would be completely unacceptable from my fastidious Pen, thus i extend a thousand and one Apologies if the bluntful original Comment i did issue caused thus.
Thank you for your reply. Your apologies are welcome, thank you, still there was one good thing in what you wrote : I came to learn the word "schändlich", so it increased my german vocabulary LOL !!
As to the Cantata, I wrote you another message which you apparently missed . What you must precisely type is :
Bach Cantata 147 The30OldYearOldVirgin
and not what I mistakenly wrote.
In addition you will see pictures and photos of monuments in Germany, really interesting...
A Cantata contains Oratorios, musical instruments, Arias, Recitatives, and Choruses. Thank you for this Vid. =] helped me understand what a cantata sounds like.

A masterpiece. I have to laugh though because the conductor looks like a bum they picked up along the side of the road who is trying to act like he's a conductor but too drunk.
Just flawless divine perfection!!!! In general very few peoplecan perform Bach though his genius sounds seem to be simple but this performance captures the spirit of bibilical eternity and everlasting joy so vividly that nobody can say nothing except-perfection. Maestro Harnoncourt is a true Master of Music
musiccritic, i'm german, and i do appreciate your liking of germans' musical endeavors, but let's not stretch it. musical talent is not tied together with nationality. there are orchestras and choirs in every country that perform at this level.
i guess the one advantage that germans may have in this piece is that the singers have a better grip on the language....
premiered between 1729-30, this is perhaps the most popular cantata composed by that inmortal genius Johann Sebastian, simple yat attonishingly beautiful, long live Bach

I thought the conductor was giving the middle finger salute at 3.35. Can you imagine that - in a Bach cantata?
