He......SLAUGHTERED this song. "Think Of Me" is NOT meant to be made into a pop song, And it's also a piece meant for a woman to sing. He just completely DESTROYED one of the most beautiful pieces from the show by turning it into a pop song.

I don't think he did THAT badly, I mean he's a good singer and he did his best. However, I do agree with you that it shouldn't have been made into a pop song. It's not a good song for American Idol. I'm not sure why I don't like this version, it just makes me shudder when I hear it. Maybe it's because I'm such and original Phantom fan.

There are lots of Webber songs that David could have sung. I was actually hoping for "Close Every Door" or "Any Dream Will Do" from "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." Instead, he took a whale of a chance here. Consider the lyrics: Why can't it be rearranged into a pop ballad? A young man has just been dumped by his girlfriend. "When you find that once again you long to take your heart back and be free." ALW was right: "We should all be saying 'Bravo!'" Gutsy and it worked -- for me.

So this is my favorite song from POTO and i CANNOT listen to this version of it! David is ok but for me this is just one of those songs you do not mess with and you most certainly don't turn it into a pop number. But that's just my opinion.

That speaks volumes as to this boy's real appeal and value. It takes life experience( and a college education doesn't hurt) to recognize that which is so far superior to the norm, as to be compelling. That is to say, his presence and performance are even getting us more mature folks to sit up and take notice. Only the Davids showed the ability to think beyond the terror Webber's songbook clearly induced. Archuleta showed off his musical sense, finding an unexpected groove in one of Webber's semi-classical arias, "Think of Me." Gliding into that downy-soft upper register, he made the song a secret mash-up with Babyface's "The Loneliness." Archie may be the show's youngest prime competitor, but that's not stopping him from being the most sophisticated.

The only things I would like to change?

His stumble over the lyrics and his awkward stage movements.

He just needs to work on getting more comfortable, I think. He underestimates himself too much, haha.

Even though the show is called "The Phantom of the Opera" it's still musical theater. The song is not in an operatic style, so I do not believe his interpretation was that far off considering the genre it comes from. It's not like he was trying to sing "Nessun Dorma" in a pop style. That would be a true tragedy. i.e Aretha Franklin. haha! :)

Well, I'm currently getting my Masters in Opera Performance. I can say with confidence, that while to you it may sound like an opera song...it isn't. I'm so glad you are able to enjoy it and you are entitled to your opinion about the arrangement.

It is NOT OPERA. It's Broadway...it's from a Broadway show. I am also getting a degree in opera, and I can guarantee you that Broadway and opera are completely different styles of music.

However, with that being said, I agree that he slaughtered a beautiful song by turning it into pop...his voice is good, but this song is soo ruined when sung this way. :-/

hahah yeah, being a theatre lover i have definitely heard a guy sing this song. his arrangement though is soo played out, with those high school runs and all that (i think randy called them "stevie" runs. he calls them this because stevie has already done them, as well as countless others). i really wasn't impressed.

yeah i agree with paula and randy, the song is known for it's theatrical classic beat what david did is made it into a more modern pop ballad song, the song was made for a diva and obviously he's not a diva so he put his own youth and heart to it and he's learning to take a risk for someone as young as him... it's sad that of all the judges simon didn't manage to get, o well our votes are for you david all the way!
