I saw Mudcrutch in concert when I briefly attended the Univ. of Florida in Gainsville in the fall of 1971. Of course hardly anyone knew who Tom Petty was at the time. Glad to see they did this reunion concert!
i love tom petty!!!!!!!!!!!everything hes done is cool! he toured with bob dylan, he was a traveling wilbury. the heartbreakers and this too.....it never ends...............these guys are one of the last of the old school rock n roll bands
I like the end where Mike Campbell and Tom Leadon are trading licks. Does anyone remember that Tom's brother, Bernie Leadon, was an early Eagle and bandmate of Don Feldner who taught Petty how to play guitar in Gainesvill, Florida? Interesting how that stuff works out. Yep, they're all Gators.
@DoowahDiatribe Oh yeah! I remember Mudcrutch well....1971 when I was a freshman at FSU. I met Tom L. at a little place here in Tally where they were playing. Sweet guy, talented musician, and hear he is in Nashville now.
There are certain songs that hit ya where ya live. This is one of those songs. Favorite version is Kingston Trio from the Hungry I. Still this version is great!!
The OTHER guitarist for u young folks out there, is Tom Leadon-Brother of Eagle Bernie Leadon. Underrated guy who just happened to write my favorite eagle song ever-Hollywood Waltz. credited to the ego Brothers, Frey and Henley also-Tom actually wrote just about everything on the cut
Trivia for ya: WHO first taught Tom Petty how to play Guitar in Gainesville,Fla.- mid 60's? 'Little Tommy Petty' as he referred to him in his autobio.........DON FELDER -former guitarist with the Eagles-check out his book,it is a great read!
does anyone know the tabs to this song - my band wants 2 play it but we cant find the tabs anywhere. I have started tabbing the guitar parts (lead and rhythm) but i cant seem to get it right. Our bass player also needs some help - i don't know a thing about bass so i cant help her. Our drummer can figure it out pretty quickly - so if anyone knows the tabs 4 at least the lead guitar part and bass part.
(Maybe even the keyboard but if u could send me the chords 4 guitar i can transfer that 2 keyboard).I know i am asking alot but our band is just starting out and we need some help - I got the basic chords i think 4 rhythm guitar ( D-C-G7) but i need help on the rest someone please help us
I love Tom and the guys [I agree, Mike Campbell is an amazing musician!]. I love Bluegrass music, too. For me that's a match made in heaven. It's no wonder this song gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling. I'm looking forward to more Mudcrutch! =)
To me it looks like the whole band really enjoys playing, not for the crowd, but playing for themselves and for fun of it. I love to see a band play that actually has fun & joking around on stage (very rare!)...and not just go through the motions.
yes, Shady Grove is a traditional, Garcia and Grisman they first recorded a good version of this on Pizza Tapes whith Tony Rice. After, they did another one on the album Shady Grove, only Garcia and Grisman.
It's a traditional American song often covered by bluegrass and old-time performers. It's based in turn on an old English folk song called "Mattie Groves," which has an identical melody but a very different lyric. If you want to hear a great folk-rock version of that one, find the version by Fairport Convention from the late '60s (featuring Richard Thompson on guitar).
yeah, i know very well the Fairport's version. i'm also a Richard Thompson fan,and Sandy Danny , of course. Matty Grove was on the wonderful album Liege and Lief, probably the best english fok abum ever
I think TP is happier now than at any other time in his life, and he really wanted to share with his old friends, the sounds as he's hoid dem in his haid alls these yairs. Rock on you guys!!
It was nice seeing you that night (i'm Dawn's bro-in-law)! Great video you got! Mike Campell seemed to be having a LOT more fun this night as Tom Leadon seemed to be connecting with him more than the first night. See you at the next show!
