I heard of how Jesus changed other people's lives and I wanted it too.I was a lying stealing cheating arrogant sexually immoral drug-addicted jerk.I knew I was bad and wanted to be good.I asked Jesus to take control of my life because I had made a mess of it.He came and purified my thought-life and heart. Though he was innocent, I believe He died for my sins, and came to life again. Understanding His love I trust Him and let Him transform my life.I have peace now i didnt know was possible.
The Shack contradicts the Bible's doctrines repeatedly. I have studied new age and gnostic teachings for years before turning my life over to Jesus and the ideas in the Shack are not new by any means. I fear for those of you who get your theology from a novel. Please pray for the Holy Spirit to guide you to whether its true or not. There's no 'secret knowledge/wisdom' to know God. Its not WHAT you know, its WHO you know. That's real Christianity.
@mescudimetal22 Would you really? :) But I'm in Mexico though :( can you please PM me and let me know if you would be willing to some how send it to me? Thank you sooooo much.
The book was slow moving, and dragged. Also, have to say blasphemous on several levels...I think people need to be very careful when putting words in the mouth of God, and finally...in all the hype it's a let down when the healing is only fictional. Not real. All in all, this book was a huge disappointment, and I felt like I needed a shower afterward. :(
@gpsings I think some people can only be reached in a humorous way, to listen to god and believe in his salvation. I've gone to church week by week for all the 19 years I am alive - but except a very, very special day, I did not ever feel that near by God as I did after reading this book. Putting comedy into god's mouth can't be so dangerous, the lord wants us to be happy, and to LAUGH. In the end the explanation is clear. God does not hurt the people. They do it themselves, because they're free
@Maartn91 ...agree 1000%. The hard part is undoing the 19 years of conditioning of entirely bad ideas...in my case being raised Catholic, then 30 years as an evangelical. Through much hand-wringing, stress, and emotional torture I had to finally conclude 'maybe what I was taught about God was wrong.' Most of what I did have burned into my head is still there - a lifetime of wrong ideas is very hard to unlearn. I hope against hope that the kind of God in the Shack is the actual one.
@mwngw I attend an organic house church, don't speak in tongues, chant rosaries, I do wear jeans. The difference is, when you are familiar with your bible...actually reading it, you learn to discern when things are off spiritually. This is one of those things. It was icky in my soul, it felt wrong. The God I know is a loving God, but a God to be respected. Never a God to make a mockery of. If you read your bible instead of a novel, you'll get a much better picture of who God is. ;-)
@gpsings I think if you think the book is blasphemous you are pretty closed minded. It was a fantastic book, sorry you can't appreciate it for what it is.

@Maartn91 The Lord definitely wants us to be happy and laugh...I don't think He wants us to be making Him the joke.

@gpsings ...a great book. You're quite bound up in fundamentalism it seems.
