  • Now how can that man introduce Aly Bain and not mention the great Phil Cunningham on piano? What a modest man Phil is, playing the quiet sideman here.

  • Mairi Rankin's '' Hey Johnny '' has similar features in this melody. I suppose that is where she borrowed parts of this tune.

  • just beautiful

  • My favorite moment is 0:00 - 3:00

  • beautiful .....................

  • Aly is one of the Greatest Scottish Fiddlers

  • You retard, it's "Luve", not "Luv".

  • I play this song in the cello, and is so beautiful

  • oh michty, it's beautiful so it so it is

  • Its Gid tae hear a fiddle speak

  • what is that amazing violin he is playing???

  • @Snufkin091 I agree with you....but the way he's playing it is even more amazing.

  • Marry me Aly !! :-)

  • @celticdollface I' ll marry ya !

  • @1xstew

awww well I did consider it for a minute there Stew, but unless you look like the sainted Aly and play the fiddle like him, then I have to regretfully refuse your kind offer ;-) :-)

  • fantastic . . wish i could make my fiddle sound like that . . might do one day LOL

  • Such a beautiful tune,Aly is such a great fiddler....I hope to be half so good before I'm done with the instrument! What an incredibly beautiful fiddle he has....wonder who made that one?

  • Very enjoyable.

  • I want to go to Scotland to listen to this man

  • Deffinetly would be worth it...I watched him a few years ago in Shetland and its an experience that I'll never forget! While your here you should also try and see Jenna Reid,Duncan Chisholm and Lauren MacColl to name a few of Scotlands incredible fiddlers.

  • Lovely air, Aly.

  • This music is of the heart. Just lovely....no matter how you spell love or it's original name. Just enjoy.....

  • I wish I had this on an endless loop. It drains away all cares. Is that Phil Cunningham on the piano?

  • It is.

  • @reelin1

Yes that's the great Phil Cunningham on piano!

  • stunning, amazing tone and playing, thank you .

  • I dont think the tune would be as beautiful without our knowing the words set to it somehow.

  • Sorry to be pedantic but this tune is called " Low Down in the Broom", a tune that was set to the poem "A Red, Red Rose " by Robert Burns but not with his approval. He preferred the tune "Major Graham " composed by Neil Gow. Aly , superb musician that he is would be the first to agree!. So enjoy listening to a traditional Scottish tune but don't give Robert Burns the credit for it.

  • Very interesting.

Is there any internet site where I can hear the tune "Major Graham?" (I found nothing on YouTube.)

  • oh this made me cry, how lovely..

aly bain if ever i meet you again, i buy you a whisky my friend

    you are a diamond

  • Aly Bain, the magnificent Scottish fiddler playing a tune written by Rabbie Burns,Scotlands magnificent lyricist and poet, how very sweet that is !!! Albainn Gu Brath

  • Isn't luv spelled love?

  • Usually but not in this case :o)

  • I must go listen to `Aold Lung Sine` now.

  • Good idea but take some spelling lessons on your way.

  • @caterthun

Pretty sure Burns spells it "Luve"

  • @awnok Naw, ya whelp!!

  • So sweet and beautiful! Here's a dram to you Aly!

    Lori

  • Isn't his name spelled Aly Bain? I only remark because if others are looking for his playing this hit may not come up. I only found it because I was looking for this particular tune.

  • Yes you're right. Thanks for pointing that out :o)

  • breathtaking...

  • i grew up with this music and it always make me ache for something...

  • This is so beautiful, Ally Bain and Rabbie Burns, what a combination
