Please don't allow one person to paint an opinion of all. I am a US citizen. My mother's family were Canadian. My grand-father and great uncle fought for Canada. I am as proud of their contributions as I am of my father, who fought for the US in WW2. WW1 was brutal, and from what I understand, the Canadians did a MORE than admmirable job. I'm proud of my neighbors to the north, and their vets have my utmost respect.
My Grandpa got machine gunned at Passchendael, took out huge chunks of his legs. Later in life as I rubbed liniment into his legs he would tell me , how he watched men just disappear into into the mud and drowned, if they didn't take their helmet flip it over to sit on. Sixty years after The Great War he would wake at night in terror,I shared a room with him and saw/heard this,God as my witness . These men gave all they had truly "Least We not Forget" hero's don't die they become our legacy!
@mainbeast That is quite the story. Must have been terrible for everyone that survived the war to have to live out their lives with the memories and nighmares. You're lucky he didn't kill you in his sleep. You're lucky to have known such a man. I had to interview a WW1 vet in my town with a couple other kids for class when I was about 12. I had no idea at the time. Sad. If only I could do it again.
brainwashing themselves to think they played a valuable role?
the americans didn't enter the war until the end, they certainly played a part but they avioded the bloodbath that the allies who fought the war had to endure. Look up Vimy ridge, passchendale, hill 60, all canadian victories that the british and french couldn't take, so Haig (british commander) brought in the canadians, generally regarded as the ones who would get the job done. The germans told of fearing canadian attacks
@TheBestTroller lol...it's funny how the us is like one big tv show, they do whatever they can for a little publicity. at least in Canada we do it and respectfully don't expect much in return. I've never liked Americans, and now you reminded me why...
he is right but to me the Canadians and the Aussies grow having a tough life so the had to be tough to survive and they all have been around guns before. so when canada was given a job they did it like on vimy ridge and pachendale. so they wer the toughest soldier of the war the german always tried to avoid us. Also we are smart people we invented running in warfare creeping barrages and trench raides. which was key to the little amount of people dieing compare to some countries (bratian french)
Why do Americans always brainwash themselves into think they're actually freeing the countries they invade?
At least Canadians and Aussies are proud of their contributions. Even moreso because they didn't get too much mainstream attention. They did their job, and expected nothing in return.
Again... much unlike the Americans. So piss off troll.
@TheBestTroller because in flanders while all the other countries retreated because of a gas attack the canadians knew that this was a vital battle and if this battle was lost the germans would have taken paris and WWI would have been a german victory so what did they do? they pissed on their rags and put it to their faces while heavily outnumbered by germans with gas masks and their allies retreating the canadian corps held the line tell me a more heroic story of american WWI soldiers if u can?
@TheBestTroller and even if a single soldier dies from any country if any civilian dies thats too much already to contribute war is a terrible thing you dont go around bragging about wars countries were in or how many of their soldiers died or how many they killed all you are doing is complimenting the incompetance of the commanders, the terrible troop quality and the cold hearted minds of the americans so fuck off the colonies all of the colonies played a better part in those wars than the US!!
all this becuz of a assasination of a archduke...
