To outsiders who's knowledge of Maoris is confined to romanticised images like this, they might appear to be some sort of 'proud warrior' race. Believe me nothing could be further from the truth. Maoris represent 14.3% of NZ's population and 51% of prison inmates, 59% of female inmates, half of all children in state care, 119 of the last 128 child murders, the highest rate of abuse related child head trauma in the world, ten times more likely to commit violent crime than any other race.
what usa havent? theres alot more than400 or up different tribes or nations of natives in usa...its just different culture, custom and languages thats all theres some native reservations within upstate nyc (kahnawake rez) or akwesasne rez and much more that stil do the powwow n ceremonies and such.....just different cultures thats all much respect and love to maori...tai ku waitiau ke yukahu cacona guari.

You bloody idiots. THATS THE FACE OF HAKA in Aotearoa. U ever been to high school nationals, then u should know & dont b so high and mighty when u see our lighter cuzzies doin da business.
EVERY1s whakapapa goes bak to a sailor, whaler, immigrant, TRUST me,being MAORI is da heart, coz we aint all that brown, so giv it up to the cuz "Patu-paiarere" who were treasured by the old people, AUE!
ignore last comment....just looked at Video Info!! pretty hard out if you ask me......anyone who puts that much passion into the haka gets my vote anyday
Cher bro who are these fallas cause I can see my cuzzie in the backround Matiu Kena in the 2nd rank his left been trying 2 find that blackass 4 ages last i heard he was in Devonport wif da Navy now cher .
Ae - they are from the Royal NZ Navy... read the description for all the details. This was a few years ago now though so your cuz might not even be in the Navy anymore. Good luck finding him!
Oh thank you for that. My daughter and i were watching this video and she said she knew that haka as she learnt it when she was going to school in Raglan. Do you know much about its meaning or do you have an explanation for it?
Hey I'm no expert but this is my understanding of Tika Tonu. The message is of challenge, struggle, perseverance and achievement. It dates back to the 1870's and was performed by a three-hundred strong group to Sir George Grey while he was on his way to a hui with Heretaunga tribes. They were airing their concerns about injustices, especially in regards to land. Tika Tonu is a well known Kahungunu ki Heretaunga haka.
Thanks for that info. How awesome would it have been to have seen that haka. A couple of my cousins know it as they were taught it as their footy team haka always good to see different haka rather than having ka mate busted out on every birthday/wedding.
Kia ora white man. ohhh! that white man in front is sooo cool to watch. He brings a smile to my dial each time I watch this vid. Who said whitemen can't jump. Tumeke.
Haha - my husband is in Iraq at the moment. I should have taught him a haka before he left! Maybe he can make the Sunnis and Shi'ites laugh with a Samoan slap dance. LOL!!
Cheers mate, awesome video, its awesome to see such cross cultural harmony with an aussie and an american performing the haka along with our Kiwi armed forces servicemen. Awesomeee or in Kiwi CHOICEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Maori or not, that was awesome. Its even better that even the non Maoris are embracing the native culture.

The European man in the middle looks very unnatural in this ceremony. I know that it is integration. But it looks quite misplaced.
Bohemund 3 years ago 3
yea, that happens. Most Maori today are more white. I don't even think there are much Maori that are 60% pure.....
no offense to anyone
