i think changing the squid thing is fine since that was a pretty abstract concept and changing the name makes sense really since they don't really have a name in the book and the recurring "who watches the watchmen?" thing would just make it confusing if you didn't call them watchmen.

Ok so i read that they replaced the creature that kills everyone with a bomb created by Ozy that uses Dr. Manhattens power to kill everyone. While its just a little tweak in the story and won't upset the order despite the fact that its a bomb instead of the creature, as a fan of the comic i say what the fuck...

This movie was made not just for the fans but for others who have not read the book. So stfu. not many people will understand the squid ending or why it's called Watchmen when the group isn't called it. Many will not understand that Watchmen is more psychological than the average graphic novel. blame the audience for showing the media what sells.

I blame the producers and the script writers for not giving the audience enough credit. This is not all about the squid. Changing the squid and the name of the group just shows the lack of faith in our meager proletarian minds. its kind of insulting

after fans call the heroes watchmen and the book is called watchmen so is it really that big of a deal if they r called watchmen in the film?

and to me they should have had that int he book..after all the first generation of heroes had the name minutemen.

The second generation did have a name. The Crimebusters. It lasted all of 5 minutes until the comedian burned the plans and berated captain metropolis. If comedian is willingly a part of that group then it does make a major change in the tone of that whole scene.

kham, artfan is right, there is a specific reason why Alan Moore did not call the group the Watchmen. Especially because it's not limited to the heroes but to everyone in power.

Also from what I hear, the purpose and meaning of the ending is not gone. It's just in a different form. In fact they say its better.
