That the Unions are free to spend their tax free funds to support a candidate but churches are not was the doing of LBJ back in 1964. What I find sad is that people think depicting Jesus as gay is insulting. I mean, sure, if they portrayed him as flamboyant and vapid, maybe, but just being gay... I think it's an interesting concept, and could be used to show how gay people are people, and how accepting them as fellow humans follows Jesus' teachings. Simply having a character be gay is no insult.

@grannycandy1 But there's nothing in the Bible that explicitly states his sexual orientation, so in that sense his character - that is, personality - is up to interpretation. What I'm saying is, it's not an insult or wrong to portray someone as gay, real or fictional, as long as there's a respect to the person/character's values. Gay is not an insult in of itself.

@WEISSKRAFT I'm not citing the Bible for gay being an insult, I was just citing it for the fact that it /doesn't/ ever mention Jesus' sexuality, as far as I know. Anyway, the bible is an old book in a different language written for a society with very different lifestyles and values than we do now - a lot gets lost both through time and translation. To judge ten percent of the population based on that one sentence doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

That is exactly my point. Why are there any conditions tied the their tax exemption? That the Unions are free to spend their tax free funds to support a candidate but churches are not was the doing of LBJ back in 1964. Public employee unions are driving wages and benefits beyond most people's ability to pay for them.

Churches have no such restriction, hence them sending money overseas, on mercedes for the priest, and a house, gold relics (so much for that vow of poverty). Unions have to spend on more or less their mission charter. That's why. They still have to pay property tax most the time as well.
