i wish they had made an episode where herman dons a santa clause costume. the kids at the mall likely would have loved seeing such a big santa. imagine what would happen once herman pulls off the beard. the parents would likely freak out, while the kids would stare in delight.
Car 54, Where Are You !!!!!!! I met Al Lewis in 1995. He was the nicest, warmest guy you could ever meet. He was 8 and smoking a cigar. He was hilarious.
a few years back, the u.s. postal service issued stamps featuring the universal studios monsters ( including frankenstein's monster, dracula, wolfman, asf. ) i think they should do the same for the munsters, yet there's no reason to include the ugly one ( marylin ). by contrast, i don't think i'd want stamps featuring the addams family. the addams family simply didn't connect with me.
Rumor has it the Fred and Al had bottles stashed in the coach and they were drunk as they road down the parade route. The Munster Coach is cool to look at but is really a nightmare to drive. Cramped, steering radius is terrible and breakdowns are common. George Barris was a designer, not an engineer. His brother Sam was the real talent of the family. He's the first person to chop a 49 Merc and a 50 Buick Fastback. His cars were sleek. Georges were/are cartoonish.

Fred Gwynne kept drinking booze from a bottle in a paper bag during the parade, and he was drunk and LOUD when it was finally over. Too funny.

My best guess is that this was in 1964-65. George Barris built that car for a mere $20,000. Cheap even back then.

Narrator referring to Fred & Al:
"...They must be fine, clean-cut boys, though to escort Santa Claus to town."
Love it! Half the Macy's Santas were half in the bag half the time.
THANKS for sharing this great Munsters related clip.

Al Lewis must have known a few people in Mayor Wagner's office since he was from Manhattan.
