To all of the cynics out there, you are impotent. You have lost a portion (or were never born with) of your soul.
I closed the door on this song in the 70's and just now (Dec 2011)have revisited. For those of you who value your physical wealth over the power of the spirit in music such as "Wasted" you will never get the true meaning of human existence. Timeless.
I always thought that this song described a longing for Jesus Christ. Goodness knows that the pressures of that turbulent drug fueled time, when young talented musicians were courted and led by record companies to make the new "Supergroup"(harbingers of today's Idolesque reality),that the default cultural saviour would play a prominent part in their art. And to saucedr, sarcasm aside ,I presume that you have heard Traffic's album "When the eagle flies".Rock and rollers lament.xxx Kennykoala
Whatever Wealth and fame all these fine musicians have accrued they earned it...and most of todays music pales in comparison, Dan....when you were "wasted" did you ever create everlasting beauty?

shut the fuck-up!! DanV900, YOU DON'T REALLY KNOW WHAT IS GOOD MUSIC. If you're saying this piece is no good! then? you're no good. Maybe you can;t sing that is why you don't really know what is good & bad music. Just shut- up & learn how to listen to good music from the old days & not from todays piece a crop!! Got it? Before you say fuck you to me! I wILL say it first!! FUCK YOU.
As I have read in an interview with SW (take it for what you will ) this song was written from the perspective of a drug addict talking to himself about coming clean. I have also heard the idea it is about a man at the end of his journey. I don't know but the meaning seems to be broad scope enough that the listener can interpret them as they like and the song remains great.
This song is about a decadent man who has been living the good life (the "throne"), but is about to die, becoming purely spirit ("leave your body alone"). The man will then meet God. "Home," of course, is Heaven. The man singing is questioning his “wasted” life, which is rapidly coming to an end. Now the man laments what he didn't do, as he waits longingly to meet Christ (the "one I have been waiting for all these years"). This is a very spiritual song from BLIND FAITH.
Realize this si a Steve Winwood song, written, sung and composed by the eternal genius himself. Clapton in his own right is a guitar God, but please give the recognition where it truely belongs
LOL Fellpetar - me too, for decades now. Mezmerizing. I'm just an old R&R person - agree with DanW900. Sooooo good Steve and Eric are well and still going strong. Was worried about them for quite a while, eh? Live forever!!
*Sarcasm* What a terrible song. I've been wasted and lost tons of times, not being able to find your way home is nothing to sing about. Today's music is so much more satisfying in that it talks about material gain, arbitrary fame, and it celebrates marginal talent. The old cuts have nothing on today's music. The singers in this piece don't once talk about how wealthy they are, nor do they flout expensive cars. This isn't music. I can't listen to a song unless it's about a VIP room I can't enter.
@saucedr ... isn't there an unedited version of this where you can hear Eric Clapton muttering in the background that 'when i go to a nightclub wit' da Beatles.. whenever 'Harry goes to the Loo.. Lennon calls 'em the THREETLES... UNH... 1969.... Clapper to the Universe.. Atco Records Chaaaaaaaaps!'
Stevie took charge cause Clapton and Baker (and omg Mr.Grech) were totally wasted 90% of the time .. No one could play like Baker .. Clapton had so much background (he played 4/4 blues trade-offs w/ Jimmy Page & that run w/ Mayall), I don't know whose arse they pulled Grech from, but w/o Stevie, nothing would've happened... Only reason Clapton is around today and any good is because he cleaned up his heroin shit... Thank heavens. Look @ Ginger ....
I dunno ...This sounds like a "Tuesday night toke up and mess around to dream up a few new tunes we can work on" night.. One of the best concerts I was ever at was Blind Faiths show @ the old Felt Forum, NYC ... It was better than the LP and definitely better than this...
@CENTAURSARATOGA Yeah, and the best part was the Fillmore was $2.50-$3.50/ticket; beat that for a bargain! I used to go 3 or 4 times a week, what w/ 3-4 bands a night on the bill .. And the concerts @ Flushing Meadow Park, sitting on the floor 5 100 feet max from the stage ... .. I saw Zeppelins first USA appearance there, when Jones' amp blew out, and Plant sang the bass line til they wheeled in a replacement amp for him ..There was just a lot of great music around for cheap, for musics sake
GREAT grouping of musicians and absolutely fantastic song, but I think this version lacks a lot of the emotion that is so much of the original album version.
I wish Columbia/Legacy would reissue the Deluxe Edition of this disc with this version aslo. Oh yeah, I just picked the deluxe edition of "Layla & other Love Songs."
Can't wait to listen to "Mean Old World" with Duane Allman!! Peace, Music Fans.
I still like the album version more, but I do really like this version. There are element's of this that I wish they had incorporated into the acoustic version, like the Keyboard and solo.
@DanW900 Be careful, friend, with general statements - true, a LARGE portion of popular music today is crap (I think @saucedr mentioned something about the theme of wealth and fame), but as someone young who loves Clapton and his constituents, there is a LARGE portion of amazing modern music in all genres as well, you just have to know where to find it ;) Because it is most definitely not going to be on ClearChannel radio! Start with some alternative online music media sites. Want me to suggest?
@ghostface3061288 Agreed. People who say they don't make good music anymore just aren't trying at all to find it. Just because it isn't on the main radio stations doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
@DanW900 There's good music being made...it just doesn't dominate the media..but there is good music and good artists out there that still do it right...you just have to search a little harder because they don't get the best record deals...and so many have had to go overseas to make money.
Its been so long since I read Clapton's biography but didn't he say something like he settled for just being the guitar player ? He was laid back in terms of taking no responsibility and not stepping forward for vocals and hardly any writing. He let Steve Winwood be the leader and sort of drive the band on ?
@kingkonglindemans its a great auto-bio- He really just saw himself as another member in the band...which is good, rock needs modesty, and whenever he could he stepped back for other singers and leaders to take the place, as he saw himself as more of a guitar player (which he was) than a singer or leader
@kingkonglindemans -- Clapton even offered to play under an assumed name because he wanted this, like delaney & Bonnie, Derek & The Dominoes, to be a band of equals rather than something along the line of "Eric Clapton and Blind Faith.
@kingkonglindemans probably why they lasted long enough to make the album. Clapton did what I guess all of these band members felt they had to do at one point with all the egos and strong personalities.. lay back and let them have their way. And to think... Winwood invites Ginger Baker into the mix!!! Then to fall into the Delaney & Bonnie colony and see a different road. one of the rear recordings where steve sung it write and this is e.c on lead very shure on rythm too..and these stories about winwood playing guitar are silly.. just love the music don t talk about thing you don t have a clue about,,

@kingkonglindemans it is true, Clapton even had a deal with Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker, that if either 2 of the 3 started a band, they'd all join, but Clapton didnt want Jack to join because he didnt want another Cream, he wanted a more relaxing band .
@cheeseppuff I've read all the stories too cheeseppuff but that is Eric Clapton playing lead guitar . There is no question . Wanting to be in a more relaxing , laid back group doesn't mean he gives up lead guitar playing duties.
Winwood can play lead guitar but you really think he is gonna write 90% of the tracks on the album , play organ , sing vocals and play lead guitar ? It would be a Steve Winwood album with session guys . You can tell it's EC anyway .
@kingkonglindemans you're right...that prominent tone is Clapton. But in the left channel you can hear Winwood's thinner lead sound as well. But the louder solo and the leads throughout the entire song are Clapton's. You're right...looks like you won't have to eat your own shit... :/
@3foldit Winwood is a fabulous guitarist. Ask Jimi. He would have left the Experience if Steve had asked him to join his band ... that's how much Hendrix thought of Steve.
@kingkonglindemans Have you listened to "Had to Cry Today/" Listen to the guitar being plugged-in in the second lead, and how that guitar trades lick-for-lick everything Clapton can throw at it. fellow youtubers, when i listnend to this song while drunk i had an epivany of how the world should be then i hit my head agaisnt the toilet wall cuz i was out of balance but this world was beutiful there were trees and happyness the rain was no ordinary rain there were no clouds and it was hot but not to hot it was perfect
wow youtube is gonna take this off!!! but they will have every assholes mixtape on here featuring lil wayne... This is real music and i wish more young people would appreciate content not cash
@tindoor38 NEITHER CAN I!!! I think this is my fifth or sixth time.... I don't know what's wrong with us, but there's bound to be something unhealthy about this. :)
@king kong lindemans Thanks for the warning i will download it . u know it's not fair they screw things up after all i wouldn't download it if they would just let things be.
To be honest , I couldn't tell you definitively but I assume it was done during the original sessions for the album. It was put out on the deluxe edition.
@sgtgiggles I first heard it on the delux version of the CD, which says this was one of the versions made during the original recording sessions. I've always loved the original track, but I quickly came to love this one, too.
I like both versions, it's just really nice to hear such a brilliant song. I'd forgotten about Blind Faith. So much goes on in life that takes your attention, it was great to be reminded that quality lives forever, even if we don't.

Blind Faith`s album sleeve was designed by a young Gary Glitter who happened to have the picture handy

I love that song! Electric version is better than original song in my opinion.

Any version of this song Winwood did is great... Where are the creative forces today? Vietnam-era music rocked, and can never be equaled...

@kingkonglindemans The guys who made this music could care less about Viacom, Google and the assorted buck hounds behind all this.

when was this version recorded???
sgtgiggles 2 years ago
To be honest , I couldn't tell you definitively but I assume it was done during the original sessions for the album. It was put out on the deluxe edition.
kingkonglindemans 2 years ago
@kingkonglindemans
You're correct, according to the booklet included with the delux CD of the album, which includes this version. I love them both.
avedoncarol 1 year ago
@sgtgiggles I first heard it on the delux version of the CD, which says this was one of the versions made during the original recording sessions. I've always loved the original track, but I quickly came to love this one, too.
avedoncarol 1 year ago
I like both versions, it's just really nice to hear such a brilliant song. I'd forgotten about Blind Faith. So much goes on in life that takes your attention, it was great to be reminded that quality lives forever, even if we don't.
rongee100 2 years ago 3
Both versions are awesome. But I prefer this one, just because I love Electric guitars more than acoustic
PageandPlant4Life 2 years ago 3
No way! The acoustic version is much more soaring. The electric version is too harsh for the lyrics
Crimble67 2 years ago
It's even better live. X3
vampran 2 years ago
You catch Clapton and Winwood on BBC4 last night by any chance Vampran ?
kingkonglindemans 2 years ago
Yeah. I absolutely LOVED it! Winwood's singing is as excellent as ever, as is Eric's guitaring. :3
vampran 2 years ago
i agree, the electric version is better than the one that appears on the album
